  1. I sent you e-mail at your contact page. My son is excited, and can't wait to try your recipes.
  2. My son is 9 and he loves to cook. I am sure he would love to try it.
  3. I'm not familiar with TC. Is there any other curriculum similar to TC.... or maybe better to ask what curriculum is similar to TC?
  4. 1. When people think that only their way of doing something is the right way 2. Noisy people 3. Dog owners who let their dog to poop in our front yard, and do not pick it up 4. When people tell me:" You are really tall."
  5. I got Melissa and Doug USA map wooden puzzle at Michaels for less than $7.00 with coupon... about three years ago.
  6. Thanks for sharing this. It's a great idea to make memories! My son will be 3rd grade this year. Hope you do not mind if I use your idea. :)
  7. My son has dyslexia and we use Winston Grammar. I did not expect from him to like grammar, but he does. Reading is very hard for him, but with help of a reading tutor, and lot of practice he is doing well.
  8. Math: Math-U-see and Life of Fred LA: Spelling - All about spelling: Phonics - ETC, Grammar - Winston Grammar; Writing - finish WWE1 and start WWE2; Literature - still working on this History (World and American) - Unit Studies Geography (World and USA) - Unit studies Science (General and Nature study) - Unit studies Music - Weekly piano lessons Art - Weekly art classes Foreign language: Spanish PE: Soccer, karate and swimming Extra: Co-op. classes once a week and field trips I divided history, geography and science (as you can see in my list) and work on each part twice a week. For example: Monday - World history and world geography, Tuesday - American history and USA geography.... Same with the science. So far, this works the best for us. We do unit studies for a month, and each month we learn something new. My son has tendency to lose interest quickly, and on this way I keep him interested for learning and he has lot of fun doing school.
  9. I do not know answer on your first question. We've got our piano for free. Tuning costs are about $125.00 (in our area). Because of the age of our piano (70 years) we have to do it twice a year. My son has piano lesson once a week (45 minutes). Daily practice is between 45 minutes and one hour. We pay $75.00 per month. Books are paid at the beginning of the school year. Price is usually about $.35.00 for all books he will need. We spend around $70.00 extra for different judging tuitions (Federation and National).
  10. Our local Cartridge World store did not have cartridges for my printer when I visited their store for the first time. I asked them if they could refill cartridges I already had, and they did. Ask them if they could provide ink for your printer. Who knows... maybe they could.
  11. I have few websites to share with you, and I would appreciate your opinion if you used any of them. Thanks in advance! 1. Study Island 2. Harcourt Trophies 3. Game Goo 4. Typing (BBC) 5. First Lego League
  12. We have HP all in one printer and I buy ink at local Cartridge World store. I do not count how many pages I print, and I print every day. All our activities printed from online resources are in color. I bought ink in September, and still use same cartridges. Ink is way cheaper at CW than in Staples or Office Depot. Some people say that printer won't last long, but we use this ink for almost two years, and printer still works well. We saved enough money to buy two printers every year.
  13. I scheduled our day by hours, so we can track what we do and when. This helps me a lot. We tried to do school without schedule, and it took us forever to finish it
  14. I have never thought about video games this way. Thanks for posting this!! As I said he can watch TV or play games on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday. Mon.-Thur. are no TV days, but he is asking for it all the time. Lady who works with my son is a therapist specialized to teach children with dyslexia. We use Seeing stars program, and all other materials and methods are adapted to fit his needs. I do not think that we have a discipline problem. He obeys and behaves very well. The only thing that bothers me is that everything takes so much time, and he seems so indifferent. I learned a lot about dyslexia since he was diagnosed, and I know that I have to be patient. I do not want to leave him behind just because he is dyslexic. His speech improved 200% since we started to work with this lady, and I can see huge progress in reading too. Thank you all for your posts. You gave me many ideas to think about.
  15. Right now he can watch TV on Friday (movie night), Saturday and/or Sunday. I think about totally screen free time. I am stressed because I think he does not work / learn enough. School is not hard for him, but it takes forever to finish it. All things could be done in about two hours, and we need five hours if we have a good day. He needs break every 10 - 15 minutes, complains about everything... He works with reading tutor every week and does well. Getting him to read is a big problem. He does not like to read at all and I understand that. Writing is another problem. I worked so hard to prepare and plan everything for 2nd Grade, and feel very discouraged when I see him so not interested. Knowing that he has to have a break very often I included games (not video or computer), songs and different activities in our school time. I tried to make school easy as it can be, but he still does not like it.
  16. My seven years old son has no motivation to do school. All he wants is to play video games and watch TV. He does not like to play with his toys. Doing school with him is like pulling all my teeth out of my mouth every single day, over and over and over again. I cannot give up from him, but I need help. I feel tired and so stressed. He is dyslexic and very emotional (with low self esteem). Whatever I try he has no interest at all. Any advice?
