  1. Oh, my kids are 9, 7, 4, 3, and 18 months. Not much real experience but we're all willing to give our best! :)
  2. I would be interested in this as well. We love art here and I wish I could find more time to incorporate it! We have access to most supplies; heavy weight art paper, watercolor paper, acrylic paint, watercolor paints (in tubes), tempera paint, brushes with plastic bristles and camel hair bristles, beeswax modeling clay and crayons, yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, wool yarn, looms, the list goes on. If there's something we're missing, as you can tell, we'll just go get it. There's a strong possibility that I have craft ADD. If you add in some Waldorf lust you are left with lots of supplies and not much actual art. :tongue_smilie:
  3. Would any of these be similar? http://Penmanship-Paper
  4. I'm in IL and we do have to teach health. I don't worry so much about a formal curriculum though. I've used Abeka Health for first and second grade and they are an easy read. There are a few questions spattered throughout and that's about it. Short and simple. For this year though I just found some online resources and we are reading books that correspond with them. We've done experiments for teeth and some lessons on nutrition. I don't put too much emphasis on it because we basically talk about health all the time. I figure that my kids are probably getting more "health" than the kids in public school do.
  5. I caught my microwave on fire recently popping popcorn in a paper sack. :(
  6. I had the same problem with her Road Trip USA curriculum. There was just so much that is included that we could spend all day doing it and not accomplish anything else! It also got very monotonous because each state was almost the exact same things with the occasional something extra thrown in to take even longer. I decided against EE after trudging through Road Trip.
  7. Thanks! This looks like something my daughter will really enjoy!
  8. My name is Tami. Mine is a typical nickname and it's spelled differently. I've had just about everyone ask me at some point if it's short for anything. Now I tell people my name is Tami T-a-m-i. My second daughter is named Abby. I had to laugh one day when she was asked if her name was short for Abigail and she answered, "no, why would it be?" :)
  9. Glue sticks. Elmer's are the best but the cheapo ones are great for younger siblings. Pencils. I'm not positive but I think my kids eat them. Pink Pearl Erasers. If I find a great deal, I stock up. These are the best erasers. Dry Erase Markers. Find out which ones you like to use and then buy your kids their own cheap brand! Little kids will ruin a good dry erase marker in no time flat! Paper. Can't really live without it. Binders. Just because I *heart* organization! :D
  10. You aren't overreacting. Officemax messed up one of my AAS books too. :( I had them cut off the spine and spiral bind it and they missed a section of about 20 pages When they hole punched it. They caught the bottom half of the pages though and it looked awful. I just knew they would end up being ripped out the rest of the way. So, I spent about an hour in there while someone else tried to fix the mistake. First he tried copying the pages to punch and bind again. That didn't work because the copies were dark and what was I supposed to do with 20 loose pages of a TM? So I had him cut off the punched part and rebind it. Now my book has 20 pages that are more narrow than the rest but at least it wasn't ruined. Best part of all of it? I still had to pay...yep. I won't be returning for any other "help" that's for sure!
  11. We've used MBTP 6-8 Community unit 1 and 7-9 Environment, some of Change and 2 units of Cycles. I like the community unit from 6-8. It gave a lot of information about towns & countries, goods and services, and even voting. We didn't continue with any other units though because it just wasn't the right fit for my daughter. My oldest daughter worked through some of the 7-9 this year. She loved most of the books. She loves to read. However, there is so much writing! We skipped so many of the assignments because they were just too much. (For the record, we were not intending this for her whole curriculum) In the Cycles units, since those are what you're asking about, there are some great comprehension questions. The book Poppy was a favorite and there were even some cute craft type projects to do. We did most of the stuff orally though because they were asking for paragraphs! I used Charlotte's Web as a read aloud with both girls so I just used the unit for the comprehension questions. And we haven't gotten to the last book yet. I plan to edit the plans the same as the rest though. There's just too much writing! If you are wanting to dive deep into a book, this is the curriculum for you! And, if you have a creative child, there are many projects that they would really like! Hope that helps!
  12. Here's my board for homeschooling... http://pinterest.com/tamis/homeschool/
  13. We don't have to have a name but we do...OIE Academy. Our last name ends in oie and we always have to spell it out for people but we turned it into the acronym "Outstanding Individual Education" for school. Our mascot is an owl (because owls are wise!) So we're the OIE Owls! :001_smile: Oh, and our motto is "if you listen you will learn!"
  14. My kids love it too...it bores me to tears but they like it and are doing great!
  15. Hi, I'm trying to choose my science for next year and I'm torn between these two curriculums. I'll need both Earth Science/Astronomy and Chemistry. Which is your favorite and why? Or is there something even better? Thanks! Oh, I want something that is planned out for me. I have 5 kids so having a plan is a necessary thing! :)
  16. I have the same CD as you do and have just started to print out my figures. I'm using the 2nd CD and sizing 2 of the images with the date and words onto an 8.5 x 11 paper. Then I'm printing them and coloring my figures while my daughter colors hers for her timeline book. We're putting them along the top of the wall in the same order as her book. Right now I'm just using tacky tape to stick them up but hanging them on a string looks pretty cute!
