  1. WOW, I bought Hebrew National a few weeks ago and really didn't like them. They are waiting in my freezer for me to forget that I didn't like them.;)
  2. Here's the one posted on the website. Is it the one? There's no celery, so maybe it's not?: Simple Rotisserie Chicken Salad 1 c. chopped or shredded H-E-B Rotisserie Chicken, your favorite flavor 2 Tbsp. Easy Red Wine Vinaigrette, see recipe 1/2 c. chopped raw zucchini 1 green onion, chopped 2 button mushrooms, chopped 2 radishes, thin sliced 1 1/2 c. H-E-B Classic Romaine Instructions 1. Layer the rotisserie chicken, red wine vinaigrette, zucchini, green onions, mushrooms, radishes and Romaine lettuce on a dinner plate. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve. Toss the salad before serving. For Work Lunch: Place the salad in the same layers in an H-E-B Tough & Easy container and take to work. Keep refrigerated and toss before serving. http://www.heb.com/recipecat/Simple-Rotisserie-Chicken-Salad/4515269/2000001
  3. Could you post the recipe or a link to the recipe? I've searched her site and can't find it and now I want it.:D TIA
  4. The websites that momof3littles posted are some of the ones I regularly use. The "Healthified" Chocolate Chip Cookies at http://mariahealth.blogspot.com/ are my absolute favorite. I use half butter/half coconut oil to make them and chop up a 90% cacao bar to use as the chips. At work, I usually snack on a combo of macadamia nuts and pistachios. I always keep some in my purse, too, for those times when you just have to have something and there's nothing available. I also keep individual cheeses and pepperoni sticks in our office fridge. The Healthy Instant Chocolate Cake recipe at http://www.healthyindulgences.net/ is also awesome. It makes just one or two servings at a time. Another blog that I love is http://yourlighterside.com. She's got some great recipes.
  5. I lost 125 pounds very slowly, but I was just noticing last night that my body looks like one of those shar-pei dogs (I think those are the ones with all the loose skin). I think for me it is partially age related. I sometimes day dream about having surgery to remove the excess skin but I don't like pain and I can't afford it anyway. I hate the fact that I'm finally close to being a normal weight for the first time in my life, but my body looks like carp because of all the loose skin. I could probably fly with my bat wing arms if I gave it a go.
  6. You asked for a recipe so I'm going to share my favorite one. I use Truvia as the sweetener - I don't do Splenda, aspartame, etc. It is really difficult unless you know how restricted her diet is. I don't go near fruit and dried fruit would probably be even worse. Nuts are something that I do eat, and because of my way of eating, macadamia nuts are great. In this recipe, I use 90% cacao chocolate. It does have some sugar, but luckily for me, I can eat a small cookie or two and not have my blood sugar spike. My notes are at the end. My vote would be to give her flowers. * Exported from MasterCook * "HEALTHIFIED" CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE Recipe By : Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Cookies Low Carb Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 1/2 cup blanched almond flour 1/2 cup coconut flour 1 tsp aluminum free baking powder 1 cup coconut oil or butter 1 cup Just Like Sugar OR Just Like BROWN Sugar 1/2 cup erythritol (or Swerve) 2 tsp stevia glycerite OPTION: add 1 egg (for cake-like cookie) 1 tsp Celtic sea salt 2 ChocoPerfection Bars (chopped) Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. These cookies taste like regular chocolate chip cookies. They are awesome!
  7. Awww, you're awesome for taking that into consideration. As a recently diagnosed diabetic, I wouldn't want a food gift. If I received one, I would probably re-gift it. I do not eat carbs and have to be very careful about everything else I eat (well, it's my choice to try to gain control without meds, but I'm sure other diabetics do the same). I would want to know all the ingredients that went into the product. I do still receive food gifts (jams, candy, etc.) and I just give them to my family. I'm not sure what to suggest that would be comparative cost of a homemade bread. If you don't mind her possibly not indulging in what you take to her, I'm sure she would still appreciate the thought.
  8. Hmmm, I didn't think he looked like Reagan, but when I go back and look at the photo I see that he does have Reagan's squint. I can hardly wait to see Jane play Nancy. She's definitely got that haughty look down. :D Is this a TV movie?
  9. I've been wearing the ones from Walmart for about a year now. I wear them everyday. I've also lost a lot of weight and these help reduce the jiggle and just kind of smooth things over. They're called "Sweet Nothings". I just wear the top that's like a cami. I haven't bought anything to wear under pants.
  10. Michelle, I'm doing LCHF - not paleo, primal or any of that (because I have to stay VERY low carb). Here are the books that I have: Low-Carbing Among Friends vol. 1 Low-Carbing Among Friends vol. 2 The Low-Carb Gourmet by Karen Barnaby The Art of Eating Healthy by Maria Emmerich Nutritious and Delicious by Maria Emmerich Paleo Comfort Foods by Mayfied (haven't tried anything out of this yet, but it was at Costco and I couldn't resist) My favorite websites and blogs for recipes (This is where I find most of my recipes. I check all of these several times a week for new recipes): http://yourlighterside.com http://ginnyslowcarbkitchen.blogspot.com/ http://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/ http://www.genaw.com http://247lowcarbdiner.blogspot.com/ http://mariahealth.blogspot.com/ http://untilthethinladysings.blogspot.com/ http://wifezillasway.blogspot.com/ http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/ http://www.atkinsdietgeek.com/ http://peaceloveandlowcarb.blogspot.com/ http://lowcarbfamily.com/ http://www.healthylivinghowto.com/blog.html http://low-carb-news.blogspot.com/ http://fluffychixcook.blogspot.com/ http://comfybelly.com/ The mariahealth.blogspot has a lot of kid-oriented recipes. She also has a kid's cookbook. I have 2 of her cookbooks (listed above).
  11. My favorites are gewurztraminers. They are on the sweeter side. My sister got me started on Le Creme chardonnay. It's been on perpetual sale at Albertson's for the last year and is highly rated.
  12. I know you said no quiche, but if they like pizza, maybe they'll like this one (we did). I baked this in a 9x9 pan, but had to bake it about 20 minutes longer. I used a combination of cheddar and mozzarella cheese instead of the swiss cheese.
  13. Beer Actually OR Love Beer Couldn't decide which I liked better. :D
  14. I've always cooked everything before putting it in the peppers - meat and rice.
  15. Angie, you sound like my husband and I. I don't know how he can be cold when he radiates so much heat. Here is the link: http://www.coolingmattress.com I got the cooling mattress pad. They also have cooling sheets and pillow cases. The mattress pad covers the whole top of the mattress, so I'm not sure how you would just put it on your side. I bought ours without saying anything to my dh. I put it on the bed and he hasn't seemed to notice. The website says something about how it moderates the temp, so maybe it doesn't over cool him? It is so great not to wake up several times in the night way too hot and sweaty. I'm really looking forward to this winter when I can hopefully use our down comforter again and other blankets. I love the feel of the weight of covers in winter and haven't been able to do that in several years.
  16. I posted on the other mattress thread about the solution I found to the excessive heat issue with the tempurpedic or other memory foam type mattresses. I bought a mattress pad that is great for helping moderate the temperature. It was quite pricey (I thought) but I can finally sleep without waking up every couple of hours because I'm too dang hot (even in the winter and we don't heat our bedroom). The website is http://www.coolingmattress.com I bought the Cooling Mattress Pad. They also have cooling sheets and pillow cases.
  17. When I was growing up, my dad insisted that all kids stuff had to be in our rooms. So, when he was home, there was really no interaction between adults and kids. I so did not want that for my family. When dd was younger, her stuff was everywhere. I wanted her to be wherever we (parents). It worked out really well for us. Now that she's just about ready to be on her own, I insist that she put her stuff away in her own room because I can't stand the mess.
  18. About 4 years ago, we bought a Novaform air bed mattress (like a sleep number) with the memory foam topper from Costco. We love it. BUT, the memory foam is too hot for me. It holds all of my body heat in and the part of my body that is touching the mattress overheats. So, I don't use many covers, even in the winter, and the part of my body that is not next to the mattress freezes. At first, I thought it was just me, as my dh doesn't have this issue. But, I've been spending a lot of time at my sister's (helping take care of my mom) and I don't have that problem sleeping in the bed at her house. I've been trying to find a solution and searched online. Someone recommended getting a thicker, better quality mattress pad to put another layer between your body and the memory foam. Didn't do a thing. Someone suggested layering a thick Turkish towel between you and the mattress. I put that over my new mattress pad. Didn't do a thing. THEN, a couple of weeks ago, I found a website that sells cooling mattress pads for these kinds of situations. It seems to be working! Even in the above 90 degree weather I'm comfortable. I'm so excited that I might be able to use my blankets and comforters this winter again. It was quite expensive, so was a big decision to make to order one. But, there is a 30 day money back guarantee.
  19. I joined and I'm excited. But, I can't figure out how to start a new thread. There is no icon or anything to click on. Never mind. It just showed up. I don't know what I did differently just now as opposed to this morning.
  20. I'd love a group, too. This is the way I'll need to eat probably for the rest of my life. I can use all the support I can get.:D:D
  21. This is one of the very reasons I chose to homeschool. I didn't want any children I had pressured to read before they were ready. Enjoy your 5 year old with lots of reading and fun around words. Don't worry. He will read. Just not right now. My dd was 9 before she really took off reading. Now, I can't keep a book out of her hands. One whole wall of her bedroom is a huge bookcase filled with her books.
  22. Oooooo, this looks like a GREAT blog! I'm going to spend some time reading her stuff. Even though I can't do primal/paleo, I can use some of the recipes.
  23. I took dd to see it on stage in Seattle in May for her birthday. AWESOME company! We LOVED it. But, I didn't even think to bring kleenex. I was in tears from the first act all the way through. Dd commented "how could you not know you'd be crying, everyone dies". Well, yes, but I just didn't think to pack the kleenex. I am REALLY excited about the movie coming out.
  24. Right now, this is my favorite lchf blog for recipes: http://mariahealth.blogspot.com/ She also has great health info (she does not recommend using soy). She has quite a few baked goods and "healthified" versions of regular recipes. I've saved many of her recipes to try, but have only had a chance to try a couple of them. Her "Healthified" Chocolate Chip Cookies are THE best. I've made them with all butter and also with half butter and half coconut oil. It is not dense like many coconut flour breads. It is springy, yet sturdy enough to hold together well for sandwiches. If you don't mind a slight nutty flavor, this will be a go to recipe.
