  1. Awesome, thank you! My girls have got all the info in the American Girl book down pat, so I'm thinking of moving on to something more in depth (at least for oldest DD).
  2. Is this just about cycles or does it cover other women's health stuff (UTIs or yeast infections or etc...)
  3. DH and are are teetotalers, as is my family of origin. No beer, no wine, nothing, never. It's just not my thing, and DH comes from a family that struggles with all sorts of addictions, so he chooses not to risk it. I feel like, in the last 10-15 years, I'm seeing social drinking much more accepted amongst my religiously conservative friends. I recently went to a (child's) birthday party and adults were offered alcoholic beverages -- the preacher and his wife were having a drink. That's something I never would have seen, growing up in this denomination. Also, I think the "mommy wine culture" has totally normalized drinking, as well. I'm rambling, I'm sure. Anyway, all that to say that it's becoming "not a big deal" to groups where it once was.
  4. They are "sister" churches, so the sermon is the same topic, same main point, same church leadership. Different in small details and presentation. (Not a liturgical church, so nothing like that.) But yes, I am hoping to increase my language knowledge - I'm calling it my Spanish immersion class. 😛 And thanks for your help - I don't have android. The search continues! (And not to derail the thread - I saw you mention a product your daughter used for drawing digitally. What was that? My youngest is quite the artist, if I do say so, haha, and I'm looking to get her a more complete drawing system other than the apps she currently uses...)
  5. My girls got a kick out of this tonight. (This is my oldest DD, at least once a day.)
  6. Thanks. Our church has a Spanish service that I sometimes sit in on when I can't make the English. But I'd like to be able to understand a little more...without disturbing those listening. Most of the apps I'm finding appear to translate speech to speech, not speech to text.
  7. Buy your DH/partner a flat top grill. Since my DH got his, he's cooked dinner 2x/week, minimum. (Now, he'll sometimes want to use my good washcloths to clean up...but that's another thread...;)) Joking aside, I feel ya. Being solely responsible for everyone's food and nutrition is exhausting.
  8. Can anyone save me some work and recommend an app? I need an app or site that'll translate spoken Spanish into English text on my phone. (For something like listening to a sermon or a lecture, and I want to roughly follow along but I don't speak Spanish...that I could read the translation and it wouldn't disturb those around me).
  9. Also, you *could* get the AAR letter tile app (if you have a tablet) and keep going, lol. But for a first grader, yeah, enjoy the trip!
  10. I forgot about "Let's Read" -- I used that with my oldest. Likewise, something like Reading Pathways (from Phonics Pathways) would have more structured practice. I have an Usborne all-in-one antholog of their phonics readers. Very cute. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Phonic-Stories-Young-Readers-Phonics/dp/0794518877/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=Usborne+Phonics+book&qid=1566654723&s=books&sr=1-18. Also, Usborne's "Farmyard Tales" anthology is adorable and it's great for reading together (kiddo reads the easier, large print page; mom reads the more challenging page).https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Farmyard-Tales-Usbourne/dp/0794509029/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=usborne+farmyard+tales&qid=1566655542&s=gateway&sr=8-1 Ready, Set, Read! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385414161/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 We also got a lot of use from the "I Can Read" books: https://www.amazon.com/I-Can-Read-Book-1/dp/1887840494/ref=pd_bxgy_img_3/147-8610199-7691939?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1887840494&pd_rd_r=faf7e22d-edd0-4744-aaec-d4ea096cbbb9&pd_rd_w=Phy0V&pd_rd_wg=0qNNv&pf_rd_p=a2006322-0bc0-4db9-a08e-d168c18ce6f0&pf_rd_r=M332NTQVGEFBB297HZFJ&psc=1&refRID=M332NTQVGEFBB297HZFJ
  11. I prefer my DD to wear longer shorts. (Not super long...but we don't allow shorts like linked above.) Oldest DD likes these: https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/bcg-womens-mesh-basketball-shorts#repChildCatid=6563069 They have a 4.5" inseam (for DD they hit fingertips which was a camp requirement this summer). They have pockets, which was a bonus for her. 🙂 And they're very affordable. (Maybe look for a basketball short instead of running shorts.)
  12. @PeterPan - have you made this before? I'm not a fan of choc chip cookies...I'm wondering if I could sub in Oreos or something...?
  13. IDK -- my initial thought was coffee or milk -- but I see you want main dishes. Maybe something light since it's such a heavy dessert. Maybe some protein and roast veggies. I'm bookmarking that recipe, though. I might make it for my own birthday in a few weeks!
  14. I'm a huge fan of Cerave products. Do you use anything in particular? I was thinking about their Healing Ointment or the eczema oil...
  15. @Bensmom2 - ouch! I'm so glad you got to the bottom of what was causing it! My DD also has had tummy troubles - chronic constipation when she was little (though I think she's mostly outgrown that). I'll definitely look into the allergy testing...
  16. My brother got one around that age, when he first really got into Lord of the Rings. It just hangs on the wall, as a decoration. (It still hangs at my parents' house because my SIL is not into swords or fantasy, lol.)
  17. Interesting. She already has a prescription for ketoconazole for her scalp (persistent dandruff that won't clear up with OTC stuff). I'm going to ask if it can be used on her body was well...
  18. No but this kid doesn't do *much* dairy. Is occasional cheese or ice cream enough to cause problems? (She doesn't drink milk or eat yogurt...)
  19. Thanks for all the feedback. I did come across blepharitis in my googling. DD's symptoms don't seem to affect the eye at all, just upper lid. But still, maybe? No weeping or crusting, just irritated skin. @Ktgrok - I've wondered about fungal stuff. We've been to the dermatologist a dozen times for her. Sometimes I wonder if I should be pushing allergy testing more (she'll get better for a while and I let it drop...but there's always a repeat. Surely there's a trigger?) They say the mouth corner issue is from licking/saliva (like a littles do, right?). Idk - DD is 10 and doesn't do that. It's just a place that flares repeatedly, if not managed.
  20. If you have eczema (or other chronic skin conditions), do you deal with eyelid issues? Youngest DD's skin probs tend to hop from one body part to the next. Right now we're trying to get an eczema flare under control on her arms (inner elbow/crook) -- this is a common spot for her. (Her others are corners of mouth and ear creases.) Yesterday I noticed her eyelids are red/puffy/almost blistered in some spots. Some peeling and scaliness, too. (In short, a lot like her eczema.) I didn't even knew this was a thing! I'm making sure she's getting her daily Benadryl just in case (she also has allergies) and trying to soothe/protect it with verrrry thin layer of Vaseline. Has anyone had a similar reaction? Do you have eczema? How do you treat it? (I'm putting a call in to her dermatologist -- we already have 2 types of steroids here -- but I don't want to put anything near her eyes!)
  21. I like the look of these: https://m.sephora.com/product/the-effortless-kit-P429278?skuId=2044006&om_mmc=ppc-GG_1987723157_73747292360_pla-418727709059_2044006_353494803351_9009619_m&country_switch=us&lang=en&ds_rl=1261471&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk5XsmNOS5AIVhsDICh2NkQT8EAQYASABEgIO7vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds but I've never tried them. I'm interested because I don't wear eyeliner or mascara...but I'd love to boost my lashes a bit.
  22. I have one like that, too. She also did not read until she was in 5th grade -- and I shudder to think of how she would've felt if she'd been in a class full of reading peers. Homeschool has been a good thing for us.
