  1. I believe the idea of a young earth has been present throughout history. The YEC movement in recent American evangelicalism seems to date to the 1961 publication of The Genesis Flood by Whitcomb and Morris. If not its beginning, YEC got a big boost at that time. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Genesis_Flood
  2. I would love some wine. Wine makes everything better.
  3. I was just repeating Slache's wording. However, in my experience, most non-denominational groups are baptistic in their teaching and practice. Do you have in mind a group that is not? If I was referring to a Baptist denomination I would use the capital B. I use of the lower case b as a shorthand way to refer to baptistic practice.
  4. If you know this to be an incorrect use of the term, why not be the change you want to see? A gentle correction from someone within the group might be better received than a criticism from one of the "others".
  5. And non-denominational/baptist types do what non-denominational/baptists do. Like thinking they are the only ones who should really use the Christian label.
  6. I LOVE your Pinterest board! These women are wonderful examples of EXACTLY my ideal look for myself.

  8. Said loud and clear in front of Dh. It will toughen him up, doncha know.
  9. The requirement of SSN to claim a child as a tax deduction went into effect during the time I had young children. My guess is @1987. ETA: guess my memory is pretty good. http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/planning-to-retire/2011/05/06/why-we-assign-social-security-numbers-at-birth The Tax Reform Act of 1986 required that every dependent age five or older listed on a tax return have their own Social Security number, which led to a spike in demand for Social Security numbers for children at earlier ages. The Social Security Administration developed an enumeration-at-birth process in 1987, which quickly became the way the majority of people apply for Social Security numbers. Now parents indicate on the birth certificate form whether they want a Social Security number assigned to their newborn child. When the state vital statistics office receives the request with the birth registration data from the hospital, it forwards the information to the Social Security Administration and a number and card are issued for the child.
  10. I think you should have the donuts. Find another way to deal with her behavior.
  11. I saw this article yesterday about the case. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11400088 It sounds like it was his former church and not any legal entity forbidding him from seeing his other children. I think many pieces of this puzzle remain to be revealed.
  12. Using " My parents won't let me" is for children. It doesn't fly for adults.
  13. What does your niece think about it?
  14. Yes, I am thinking I should at least get a titer test. I was hoping that there would be a easy way out!
