  1. The only advice that I can give is to just take it one day at a time. Don't worry about high school now. You have enough on your plate as it is. Things have a way of taking care of themselves. Worrying about high school now will not do anything for you except maybe give you an ulcer? :tongue_smilie: But you know what is best for your family...don't do anything out of a sense of guilt. If you feel it is best right now for her to go to school...then maybe do so on a year by year basis letting your dd know that if it doesn't work out, then she can always come home. She may be more willing to go if she knows she has a way out.
  2. Instant gratification is not a good habit for your ds to get into because he could carry it into adulthood and it could possibly wreak havoc on his credit. Waiting for things develops patience. It's also good to teach wants from needs. Most of the time we don't "need" the things we buy. We just simply want them and can most certainly do without them. It is good to deny our children more then we indulge them imo. Then their expectations are low and when we do decide to indulge them...they are so appreciative (and surprised!)
  3. What a funny question...it made me laugh. I seem to be in the minority here, but I eat it around. I'm pretty sure dh eats it the same way, but I never paid too much attention. Now I'm curious...
  4. I bet you can find lots of books at your local library that would have what your looking for as far as decorating tips. We just completely re-did our bathroom (water damage, leaky pipes - you name it). It was fun to pick out tiles and bathtubs and such to redecorate. EVERYTHING is brand new. But it does become expensive very quickly so look for books on how to decorate on a budget. Oh, and have lots of FUN! :D It's a great way to express yourself.
  5. When we have a good day as a family without the usual sibling squabbles and fights and when we've laughed and enjoyed one another...that does it for me.
  6. My recommendations are: A Wrinkle in Time Where the Red Fern Grows Caddie Woodlawn The Black Stallion These were all very enjoyable to listen to with my dc's.
  7. Wow, sounds like you really needed that. I'm so glad it was such a blessing for you. Hope you have many more days like that this summer! :)
  8. Can you believe zero? I'm just not into contemporary stuff much.
  9. After about age 40 your eyes start to lose the ability to focus...totally normal. I've worn glasses all my life and even w/my glasses on I'm having a tough time...think I need bifocals now! :tongue_smilie:
  10. I love steel cut oats. I like mine creamy so I do 4 cups water to 1 cup oats. I add a little brown sugar, golden raisins or dried cranberries and a little cinnamon. Yum! I've never soaked them overnight before though...I'll have to try it.
  11. People will always have differing opinions - but it's how you express those opinions that's important. As long as you say what you think in a way that is respectful of others you shouldn't have any problems. :)
  12. Actually, maybe you could tell us what you think...
  13. If the differences were just minor and the group was sticking to academics only I would definitely consider it. BUT, if the differences were central to my faith, then no - I wouldn't join.
  14. I wouldn't mind at all but I'm totally sure he would never post here. My dh doesn't even know how to turn the computer on! And that's not an exaggeration. Dh and electronics just do not mix.
  15. I think it's great that you want to study this for yourself. Dig into the book of Daniel, Revelation and maybe even Ezekiel. You can find lots of people who are pre-trib, mid-trip and post-trib and they will all have scripture to back them up so it's really important to look at scripture in context. Also, try not to read it with your mind made up already - be open to what God says about it. The Holy Spirit was given to lead us into all truth so you can be confident that He will lead you in this! :)
  16. Yes, almonds can be frozen. As far as the ones you have, is there an expiration date on them? Most nuts have a pretty long shelf life although shelled nuts don't last as long as the ones stored in their shell. But they still last pretty long. Just taste one...you'll be able to taste if it's rancid or not.
  17. Well, the good thing is that your dd's age, she probably didn't even notice it. At least I hope she didn't...
  18. I definitely think they're overrated and I'm just finding out NOW that some of their songs were drug induced. Sheesh - was I naive!
  19. Can you believe that I have never had either a manicure OR pedicure! Ever! I could if I really wanted to I guess, but it's never something I really ever think of doing.
  20. The problem with this is that it doesn't really change that "it can't happen to me" attitude many, many young people seem to have. They feel like nothing will happen to them...it always happens to someone else. I can't see that this stunt would really reach their hearts. Really, this kind of thing should be taught in the home...but if parents are setting bad examples by drinking until they are drunk (I'm thinking of my neighbor in this instance) then really the children are not going to think drinking until you're drunk is really a big deal. And a stunt like this really won't change that.
  21. Since you've indicated that everything is fine w/the coach and other kids I think it is a great thing for you to have your ds follow through on this commitment and not give up. My dd is in a similar situation but w/soccer. She is an awesome goalie and the go to girl when the team is behind and needs to avoid anymore goals but for some reason she has decided that she absolutely hates to be in goal and doesn't want to do it anymore. Thankfully the decision is not mine and I'm really happy that the coach does work w/her and lets her play defense but will make her play goal when it's needed. She's not happy about it, but I'm hoping it helps her to think about the team more and not just about herself.
  22. My delete button gets quite a work out. I never take forwarded emails seriously and I rarely read them. They're usually nonsense.
  23. My ds was on Singulair as a preventative - it is a chewable tablet taken once a day...maybe this could be an option?
  24. The last movie by myself? Hmmm, it's been a while but it was either Pride & Prejudice (which I absolutely love) or The Devil Wears Prada (which I hated).
