  1. My 6 year old is doing both WWE and FLL level 1. With the copywork and narration in WWE we do two lessons a day and it takes maybe 15-20 minutes. It depends. Sometimes I need to read the passage twice for her to get all of the information to answer the questions correctly. In FLL, we work on memorizing and parts of speech and that takes about 10 minutes. We skip all of the additional writing and use it as our grammar book. We do both 3 times a week.
  2. I have a sub. We use the site often and it has more than paid for itself by now.
  3. I didn't think about that. Today was our first WWE lesson and for some reason I didn't think of the actual book passages. That would be really confusing to use the student pages and the book because the student pages have sentences pulled directly from the reading passages in the 'teacher' part of the workbook. So I guess the student pages would only work if you had the workbook and needed a second set for another student.
  4. I chose to buy the workbook and skip the book. The advantage of buying the workbook is that you have all of the copywork and narration excerpts laid out for you. The first half of the workbook is the teacher guide and the second half is the student work book and is consumable. The book would be cheaper over time because it has the foundation for how to create four years of work, but I'm lazy and I would never get around to finding a year's worth of copywork and narration passages. As far as I can tell the student pages are what makes up the second half of the workbook. They can also be purchased separately for additional students or to use with the book if you do not wish to create your own exercises. So you can get the book and have all 4 years guided for you, but you'll need to create your own copywork passages to use. If you do not want to create your own passages you can buy the book and the student pages. Or if you want a consumable workbook with the work done for you the workbook would be the way to go. Actually, I'm just having my daughter do her copywork in a notebook instead of writing in the wb so that we can use it again for my son in a few years.
  5. I took driver's ed at 17, but didn't really care much about driving. I had a horse to support and couldn't afford the car insurance. I was very close to 20 before I got a license and car. My younger sister drove before I did.
  6. I bought white because I'm cheap but if I were buying again I would get red, orange or blue. There are a lot of cool washers and dryers on the market now. I need something to make me smile when I do laundry.
  7. I use her weekly planner for my 6 year old. I use the basic unlabeled weekly and fill it in using word. When I print it off I have a very professional looking plan.
  8. I guess I'm cheap too because this is what I would do. She would have had to pay for food for that time period if the cat was with her. Add me to the surprised that she didn't plan better and let her animal run out of food part way through her absence.
  9. You gave your notice and asked for extension until August and I think they took it to mean the first. I doubt they have to give you notice if you gave notice first. YMMV. Check your local laws.
  10. You could use the virtual debit card. It's called the paypal plug in and it's over on my left when I'm signed in. You download the program and it will say generate secure card and it will give you a credit card number to use. I believe it's a mastercard number. HTH
  11. The plastic isn't the 'beef' of your car. It's sheet metal and a metal cage that protect you. The plastic panels are just there to hide wires and gauges. You could theoretically remove your interior plastic paneling. The plastic of a carseat is the carseat. It is what holds your child in place during an accident. There isn't much else to a carseat other than fabric. Unless you drive a saturn like I do..
  12. It is 6 years. If you have a proper use clause using the seat past the expiration date can result in a fine. They degrade over time, parts are lost and safety standards change. If you aren't interested in spending money on a new infant seat I'd look into the cosco scenera, a convertible seat, that goes from 5-40 pounds and costs about $45. Otherwise I'd put feelers out to family and good friends to see if you can borrow one.
  13. We have a plasma car and my 6 yo dd loves it! My 21 mo ds is getting the hang of it but isn't quite strong enough to make it go without using his feet. It's a big hit here and it's cool that it can hold most adults as well. I like playing with toys too. Off to google the flying turtle, I've never heard of it.
  14. That's my plan as well. ETC is awesome for teaching phonics and I think a child should be comfortable knowing phonics before trying to spell. I think it makes spelling a lot easier.
  15. If you have the SOTW 1 activity guide page ix is a pronunciation guide. If you don't have it and there are a few names in particular you need help with I'd be happy to help.
  16. That's awesome! I love that the links are clickable. That will come in handy.
  17. My 6 year old loves cranium cadoo, sequence for kids and doodle dice.
  18. My first grader will be doing FLL1 and WWE1. She could do wb 2, but I want to give her a solid foundation. I'm afraid we'll miss something vital if we skip ahead. So we're going to just take it by grade level instead of skill level.
  19. My dh works at the library, so I reserve books and he brings them home and likewise returns them when we're done.:D I do take the kids to the library because my 6 year old loves picking out her own books and the library has always been my favorite place and I want her to experience it. For that we use a large canvas bag and she has a limit.
  20. Awesome! We're reading Aesop's fables now. I like the idea of drawing free hand and maybe some coloring pages. And I agree that the internet is a fantastic resource.
  21. I wonder if something is wrong with your machine. We have a bissell as well and I'll steam and go run errands for 3 hours and come back to dry carpet. But yeah I'd plan on ripping it up. I have 2 fairly neat kids and no pets and my carpet still gets nasty quickly. We rent or I'd have torn it all up by now.
  22. I love biology and Earth science. My dd likes biology but she's young and we haven't touched on physics and chemistry.
  23. I much prefer the unabridged classics for myself and my children, however I do see the value in reading abridged versions of adult classics to children as an intro and to 'ramp them up' to that level. So we'll be reading some abridged stories here and there, but staying with unabridged versions as much as possible.
