  1. If you buy K12 as an individual, you are supplied with curriculum just as if you were to buy curriculum from Rainbow Resource. There is no one teaching for you, no one grading the tests, no reporting or anything. Some of the curriculum is on-line, some hard/paper books, and other supplies. There is an option to enroll in an academy were there is a teacher available, but just because someone buys K12 it does not mean they are enrolled in the academy.
  2. Do you have more how-to video or posts for us? I am be inspired to try to make something like this! Does your daughter use it?
  3. Just spent $25 to get this! Spent over an hour deciding what to order to hit $25. Thanks for pointing out the low price!
  4. Have they tested any of your hormone levels? I think your hormones affect your bowels too (they certainly do mine!).
  5. Since you have a decade to go before you would use it, I would go ahead and sell it while you can make some money from it. By that time, you will want a newer version or even may use a different curriculum. If you decide that you want that version, you can probably find it used at a good price.
  6. I live in higher food cost area and my budget is $650/month for 6 people (food only - doesn't include non-food stuff). Our eating out budget is $50/month. The way that I am able to stay in that budget is to pay for my groceries in cash. I get my basics at Aldi's. I use coupons at the grocery store. I buy my meat in bulk (value pack) and divide and freeze the portions. I plan my dinners around what I have in the freezer/pantry and/or what's on sale. I plan a week at a time for dinner/lunches. At the end of the month if I run out of money, I am surprised at how many meals I can eek out of the freeze and pantry. Sometimes, I purposefully try to clean them out by only shopping for fresh fruit & veggies.
  7. Mainly bumping for you. My dh is a coach. I see that he uses google (or a specific) site for practice drills. I bet you can find a lot by googling or even on youtube.
  8. Is there any way the co-op class would let you sign-up after the first class and let you visit during the first class?
  9. Can you call your pediatrician at this hour to ask him/her what to do? My guess is that they would say to go to the er if you felt it was necessary to call him at this hour. However, he might say that you could wait until morning and go to an urgent care rather than the er tonight. It is so hard to know what to do in these situations. I have taken my kids to the er/dr several times right away and everything has been fine. If I had waited a day or two, they probably wouldn't have needed to see anyone. However, you don't know that at the time. Hope everything turns out okay.
  10. When we left K12, we used Thinkwell.
  11. I really like my Cutco set. You can order Cutco directly without a sales rep. Or, soon Cutco will have kiosks in malls for Christmas. The benefit of the reps is that they show you what knives to use for what. eta: My favorite two Cutco knives are the paring knife and the cheese knife. Between those two, they meet most of my knife needs. I do use my other knifes, but those are the two that I use the most.
  12. I have put together goody bags filled with snacky type stuff such as the small packages of oreos, a small can of soda, a small bag of microwave popcorn, a freeze pop (unfrozen), etc... That kind of stuff is a treat in my house. All the kids seem excited for the bags.
  13. Staples has a coupon this week for 25% off better binders. I have been waiting for a sale all summer. I'm going to bring in old binders to get $2 off as well.
  14. I remember years ago an episode on Dr. Phil about a lady who got in trouble with the police for leaving her kids in the car while at the curb to drop money off in the a Salvation Army bucket, at least this is what I remember). I think her daughter wanted to give money, but the mom must not have had change on her, so she pulled along side the curb and maybe ran out with the daughter leaving another kid in the car while she was just five feet away. Dr. Phil had some guests in the audience who blasted the mom. Dr. Phil kept asking this mom (the one who was doing the blasting) if she ever left her kid alone in the car and he would ask her all sorts of situations where you know the kid was in the car by himself and she insisted that she never did. The only question that I remember is if she was going to mail a letter in a mailbox that she pulled right up to, but had to get out of the car to reach it and the mom insisted that she would get her kid out to walk the two steps to the mailbox. Dr. Phil didn't believe her. Sorry! Rambling - just remembered this episode because of the thread.
  15. That's nice! You have time to return a cart and drop off a fed-ex package! Probably time to run into Starbucks too!
  16. In my state, the law isn't clear about if you can leave a child younger than a certain age with a teenager in the car. In a neighboring state, their law specifically says that you can leave younger children in the car with children 13 and older. So, I called the District Attorney about this and he said that would be giving legal advice and I should consult an attorney. Yes, the law is that "clear" that you need to ask an attorney what is actually legal. Someone else (I don't recall who), said it's unclear on purpose so an officer can use his discretion in each situation. There's a bill that hasn't been passed in our state to make it illegal to leave kids in the car under the age of 13. Check out this article: http://voices.yahoo.com/no-child-left-unattended-pennsylvania-6843046.html. A reportor checked into this for me last year, and at that time, the bill wasn't getting any action - thank goodness.
  17. I know of two situations where the cops were called on kids in the car by themselves. The first one was in a small town in a small strip mall (4 store and 1 restaurant all locally owned). Someone called the cops on a lady who left her teenager and two elementary-aged children in her car while she and the owner of the shop where loading her car up, going back and forth between the car and the shop. The customer also had an infant, which she had with her in a carseat. I would have left the infant in the car with the other kids. The cop came out and nothing came of it because the elementary-aged children were not left alone - there was a teenager in the car with them. The second time was just last year. This mom left her one of her 6yo triplets in the car at the grocery store (huge, busy store in the suburbs) to run in and buy milk. She went home to find the police waiting for her because someone called about the child and gave the police her license tag. I guess she left the parking lot before the police could get there, so officers were sent to her home. She was reported to CPS and had to go to court. She hasn't shared the outcome, but she didn't go to jail (which she was told was a possibility). SKL, I'm glad the cop didn't give you a hard time.
  18. My group is small enough that I have been using signup genius for our registrations. I get all the info such as address, etc from email. I manage the info in word tables.
  19. That's the fun part! Why don't you list your books and let us help you out?
  20. My kids would prefer the dollars vs gift card so they could save it to use where they want. I'm sure he would be able to find something to spend it on at Dick's though. My kids usually get their equipment at locally owned and/or specialized sports stores (better selection and individualized help).
  21. Sunshine cake. I can post the recipe tomorrow, if you'd like or if you can't find online. (I don't know how to do that on my tablet.)
  22. Check out 1+1+1=1 blog and the toddler tray ideas (sorry, won't let me link).
  23. What about a gift cert for maternity clothes and/or instead of something for the baby? You could send a gift card to Target telling her to pick something out a maternity outfit out for herself. If she doesn't need it that, then she can pick something out for the baby. What's done is done as far as the baby coming and she would be probably be happy for someone to acknowledge her baby.
  24. I didn't find JC Penney's prices lower than Kohl's or Bontons, when you had a coupon. The list price may have been cheaper, but not when you applied a coupon. My kids weren't happy with JCPs clothing selection. I have not had luck with coupon matching at Walmart. My local Walmart won't match store prices where you have to have a loyalty card, which basically means that they don't match prices except for Home Depot or Target - all the other stores have loyalty cards. A manager and I got into an argument over this when I tried to match a CVS price. Couldn't understand his reasoning, so now I just shop CVS and Rite Aid when they have a good sale. I could understand if we had to pay for the card like at Sam's Club or BJs, but not a free loyalty card.
