  1. I just finished up my first whole30 this past Friday. I was inspired 32 days ago from some posts on here, WTM forum. I pulled up the whole30 site and it said somewhere on there, when to start? right now. So, I started that morning. You don't need to buy anything special to do it. You probably already have olive oil in your pantry. If you don't have coconut oil, you may want some of that as well, but you will be fine with just olive oil. Summer is a good time for a whole30 since there's so much fresh produce available. Stop by a local stand and stock up on fruit and veggies. Eat the meat you already have in your freezer.
  2. I was at the farmer's market today talking with the owner of grassfed cattle. Her prices run from $6.50 to $30 a lb. She was giving me ideas on how to afford the meat. Her suggestion is to find someone to split a 1/2 cow with. It's $4 a lb if you buy a 1/2 cow and if we split it with someone, it would be around $700. She also has chickens which I might be able to incorporate in my weekly budget.
  3. I had to listen to your clips to know. Like Swellmomma, I would change the radio station if their songs came on. I have been listening to the Church's Under the Milky Way on youtube lately. Can't get the song out of my head! Was expecting this post to be about having company and a lot of people in the house or something.
  4. Have I missed an update on the quilt? Can't wait to see a picture.
  5. We sent our twins to b&m 8th grade to help us decide what to do for high school. That way, they could learn the school way without it affecting their transcript in high school. I do think that it might take a marking period to adjust to the requirements of school (showing work for each math problem (was a battle for here for years for ds), keeping the notebook organized, writing enough, etc...) - not really a whole marking period, but there is an adjustment period. One of the deciding factors for me was attending the curriculum fair for upcoming 9th graders. (The school's version of a curriculum fair is different than a homeschooler's.) Teachers from different subjects spoke about what the students would be learning in 9th grade. Each teacher was passionate about the subject that they taught. I want my kids taught by someone who is passionate about the subject. I am not. So far, my twins teachers are passionate about their subjects and it comes across in their teaching. My kids like subjects at school that they probably wouldn't have enjoyed under my direction such as physics & chemistry.
  6. A downfall of on-line school is that the student may have the ability to do other things on the computer while you think they are working (unless their school blocks all those sites). They can be sneaky and set the screen up so if you glance over, you think they are participating in an on-line session or doing a lesson, but they may really be watching a movie, or chatting with their friends. Even just the monitoring part of watching someone's student during the day is a big responsibility and may interfere with schooling your own children.
  7. Yes, but I want it now! and I don't have a car at the moment to drive to a store. I'm wondering if a banana would work since it's pretty sweet.
  8. Thanks! I don't have any dates, I wonder if there's something else I could use instead.
  9. I am on day 29. I have mostly been compliant. I've had a few cheats for the past week (aunt flo is visiting and won't take no for an answer for chocolate and a few crab chips). I've had to experiences in eating out where I think/thought I was being compliant, but they ended terribly. The only thing I can think of is that the restaurant used an oil that doesn't agree with me, or a preservative. I can't wait for Sat for real dessert. Obviously, the sugar dragon wasn't slayed for me. I am hoping that I will be able to transition to the S diet - no seconds, snacks, sugar except on s days. That is probably more realistic than refraining altogether when I still want it.
  10. Thank you! Will be making once I'm finished with this Whole30 thing brought on by this forum (day 29).
  11. Can you share the recipe for the samoa cookie? That's one of my favorite bought cookies.
  12. Dd liked the Bambino Luk system at that age (still does). http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?subject=12&category=9318\
  13. I didn't realize that my friends who wear dresses/skirts only wore dresses/skirts only until they pointed it out. Then I realized, "Oh yeah, I guess I haven't seen them wear pants before." Same with friends who only wear pants.
  14. It was our schoolroom, now it's basically a den.

  16. It is worth it! However, if you plan to have more kids and think that you might want a double, I would get a Phil & Ted or Baby Jogger instead because you can had a second seat with a kit rather than needing to buy a double stroller.
  17. I would count a no response or a maybe (without an understandable explanation) as a no.
  18. I found sucking on Jolly Ranchers helped slightly.
