  1. Thanks for all the replies. He should be done with everything but math by Feb. most likely. My plan now is to just review until about August and work on handwriting and reading comprehension. He will be 5 in July. Maybe spectrum workbooks would be good for that and the Abeka grade 1 readers? I honestly feel more comfortable with picking one publisher and staying with them for Science, History and LA. I am too afraid we will totally miss something if I pick and choose what to do one year to the next. I know new homeschooler worries. I am trying to decide what I need to get him for next fall. I plan on ordering when we have the tax return. If I wait any later to order I am afraid we won't have the money. We do not do school unless he asks. I was lucky to get him to take Christmas eve and Christmas off. Yesterday he did 3 math lessons because he wanted too. He has always been like that, at 18 months he would want to sit in my lap all day and do ABC's and numbers. He would also spend literately all day at about that age in his room just looking at books.
  2. Thanks! I am thinking we will go with Abeka 1st grade for him if I decide to go the Abeka route. It will give him time to work on writing and reading comprehension.
  3. OK, if I decided to switch him to Abeka should I get 1st or 2nd grade if he has completed 1st grade Lifepacs? I was thinking 1st since it is more advanced than the LP's. Not sure though.
  4. DS is 4.5 and is an accelerated learner. We started him on Horizons Pre-K at age 3. He flew through it so I ordered him the K Lifepacs. Well he is now almost done with Grade 1. We use Lifepacs for everything but math. He uses Horizons 1 for math is doing great with it. I think DS needs a more challenging curriculum. He loves workbooks. He would never go for something like FLL. At least I don't he would. What would you recommend? Would Abeka be a good fit? I want to change everything but math. He does school maybe an hr a day right now. We don't do school unless he asks but that seems to be about every day. We do nature walks, library books and he plays outside a ton. He is just an eager little learner! __________________

  6. DS was the same way. We read a lot and played games. He really liked music so I bought some nursery rhyme and other kiddie cds for him and played them in his room all day. He would sit in his room all day at that age and just look at books. He didn't start really talking until he was about 2 1/2, before then it was just "Momma and Daddy" One day the letter sounds just clicked at about the same time he started talking good. I would just expose her to the sounds using the leapfrog dvd and playing games with her. They will eventually click.
  7. We use Horizons. I can't wait to start DD1 on it in the fall.
  8. We keep trucking along. DS will be on 2nd grade work while still Pre-K age. My plan is just to go at his pace and when he needs a break or more time on something we take it. It is the beauty of homeschooling. :)
  9. ....and that is why I am waiting to go visit my parents tomorrow instead of tonight. It is so LOUD on game days.
  10. DH has food in food safe barrels and sealed tight hidden in the back. No one would know that we have that much food. We live on 80 acres so he has a lot of hiding places.
  11. DH is very concerned. We have tons and tons of back stock food. He has the whole closet full of ammo for his guns. We are trying to get more livestock. I have a binder full of recipes for everything from homemade diaper rash ointment to home remedies for illnesses.
  12. It starts picking up a little with the 3rd like PP mentioned. It really picks up in the 4th. Each book gets more in depth with the story. It is my favorite series by far. I started reading it when I was 10 and I am 24 now and I still reread it ever few moths.
  13. Thanks figured it ou1! Our remote was dying. I went a bought a new one and now we have no problem.
  14. We just got that game! How in the world do you thrust? DH and I are both stuck!! We hold the wii remote and thrust it toward the TV and it is not working.
  15. I use this one. Works great and so much cheaper than buying store bought. Clothes come out smelling nice and clean and stains always come out. http://www.duggarfamily.com/content/duggar_recipes/30455/homemade_liquid_laundry_soap_front_or_top_load_machine_best_value
  16. I just took DD2 to the doc a few weeks ago, she is 7 months. She was worried because she wasn't sitting up yet. She said it is a little red flag by 7 months and big red flag by 8 months. I would have MIL talk to them about getting a new ped. We are keeping a closer eye on DD2 because of some late/missed milestones. I can't believe the ped doesn't think there is a problem with all those missed milestones.
  17. I have never liked "girlie" books. I will pick any fantasy over "girlie" books.
  18. I take a supplement everyday to keep my supply up. She has plenty of wet/dirty diapers and is happy and content after she nurses. I tried to give her a a formula bottle the other day and she wouldn't take it, so I assume she is getting enough milk.
  19. My first thought was to up the BF but the Nurse Practitioner I take her to said to up the solids. She actually told me to give her solids first before I nurse her. I thought it was the other way around? Thank you for all that!
  20. I took DD2 in for a weight check today. She is 7 months old and gained 1 oz in a month. She weighs 12lbs 13oz. All of my kiddos are small. DS was 14lbs at 6 months and DD1 was 11lbs at 6 months. DS is now 40lbs at 4 and DD1 is 25lbs at 3. They have always been on a curve though. I would not be worried about DD2s weight but she has dropped off of a curve. I breastfeed her about every 2-3 hrs 24/7. She gets 3 meals a day of solids. Cereal with fruit in morning, veggie for lunch and meat/veggie for dinner. Is there anything I can do or feed her that will help her gain weight?
