I want as long as it doesn't have carbs in it? Today is day one (again, UGH!) and I had 2 scrambled eggs cooked with butter, then I was still hungry, so I cooked about 4 oz fish in olive oil and butter. I drank a glass of green tea. I'm feeling better. :D My goal is to reduce my Fatty Liver Enzymes, lose weight, and become healthy. I can never get past the carb addiction though. After a few days (maybe up to 2 weeks) I do really well but ultimately, I eat something I shouldn't and it's ALL OVER. I am an all or nothing kind of gal. :sad:

I pray that this is just a side effect of treatment. Does anyone here know Christine personally that can update?

I lump them together. Organisms evolve. I also teach my kids what a scientific theory is. I know many adults who don't know that a Scientific Theory is different than what is meant by theory in common use! :eek:

I also started with My Father's Dragon and it was a huge hit! Then I read The BFG which also was loved.

:001_huh: but, alas, he hasn't and he's almost 8. I had to pull him aside this morning and I told him to please STOP with all the potty humor. I told him it's not appropriate and while other kids are growing up, they are going to make fun of him. Adults aren't going to want him to play with their kids. So I listed the potty words: poop, fart, wiener, butt, loud burps, any bad words (did not actually say them but I've heard him say ass... as in "Mom, can I have PirateAsses with my lunch today?" in place of Pirate Booty), and as I'm nearing the end of the list, he is pinching his cheeks to stop from laughing and then tears started streaming down his face until he couldn't hold the laughter in, and continued to laugh so hard that he really was crying for about 3 minutes until he could catch his breath to say "OK". :001_huh::001_huh::001_huh: BTW, this kid use to have awful behavior - very impulsive and inconsiderate but about 6 months ago he seemed to mature and really behave and during school has been a joy to teach. He can't seem to let go of the potty humor though and I really thought he would NATURALLY get bored of it but he is actually getting worse. Any advice is welcome and I can take criticism as long as there is actual advice there too. :)

It's hard to believe how cheap groceries are in some areas of the country. :001_huh: I thought you were spending $285 a week! I spend a minimum of $175 a week and I could maybe get it down to $300 every 2 weeks if I gave up Greek yogurt, wine/beer, bread, and vitamins.

for my son's 8th birthday. I am getting scholar colored pencils and book about how to draw the characters from The Last Airbender. I'd like to get a notepad and here's where I'm stuck... Something to put it in! Everything I have looked at is too Mankato (lol, I left that iPhone auto correct... which corrected "babyish" to Mankato! :lol:) ahem, too babyish or girlish or on the other extreme too grown up. Any advice on a case of some sort or something else to put in his kit?

Tags are an excellent way of organizing helpful threads on a certain subject. For example, if you search on 3rd grade in the regular search, you will come up with basically every thread because it searches signatures also but people who found a particular 3rd grade thread helpful TAGGED it, so it is much easier to find the information. I tag "WISDOM" for threads that have something homeschool/parenting related that I want to re-read but would never find with a regular search because I don't always remember the content. Tagging as Protestant Bashing is a way for people to be anonymously snarky, IMO. EDIT: Sorry, I only read the OP, obviously this was cleared up way before my post! :o

2nd grade: I'm using WWE2 and HWT cursive, those are fine. DS finished ABeCeDarian level B2 at the end of 1st grade. He now reads books such as the Magic Tree House (but slowly) but we aren't doing: Phonics Spelling Grammar I'd like to add something NOW and continue with 3rd grade for next year. My dd is just starting 1st grade. She is doing ETC 3 and just read her first book (Green Eggs and Ham). She is doing WWE1 and HWT grade1. Those are working out well. I am not doing anything but ETC with her (should I order ABCD again... but I'M kind of bored with it) or go with something a little different? I'm considering McRuffy phonics because it's colorful and her previous books (ABCD level A and ETC are black and white and plain). I am also toying with the idea of just starting reading real books with her and when she gets to a word I can say "oy says oy" and then have her write in her notebook "boy, joy, toy...etc.) Any comments and suggestions are very welcome! :lurk5:

You don't need the 1st grade teacher book because everything is repeated from the K book. I thought the chalkboard was very effective for teaching the upper case letters and it was so inexpensive anyway. My dd now uses it to "school" her dolls. I like having extra paper and the notebooks because I think the 2 line method is brilliant! My kids can easily transition to 3 lines, but I appreciated having the 2 lines for learning. I also loved having the gray block paper for extra uppercase practice.

His car did not make it to the finish line (no surprise there) but after the first race he didn't want to watch so he moved to the back row. Thanks for your support everyone, my heart breaks for him but I hope this important lesson about listening and being patient will stay with him for a long time. :grouphug: P.S. my dd won 1st place in the sibling race! :w00t:
