  1. She didn't identify her students or where she worked and it wasn't an education blog, it was a personal blog and she wrote about some frustrations with her job. I have no doubt that her students actually were lazy, unmotivated and disengaged. She said they talked about drugs and cursed and whined. This is what she lost her job over?:confused: Maybe the administrator should have called her in, told her that it was not professional and was making the school look bad and WARN her that if she continued she would be fired. Why jump straight to firing her?
  2. Our scouts are going to sing a scout version of Boom-de-ya-da and I'm changing the words to make it about scouting. I'm thinking it will be cute (right?) In one verse, I have: I love the campfire Yummy Smores for all I love ??? ???? I need help filling in the question marks. I came up with "I love to play games, even if I'm hurt at all." but I already, in another verse have: I love the den hikes All tired with scraped up knees ... and I don't want it to seem like our scouts are always getting hurt!  TIA!
  3. I just want to add ]that the abacus is not used as much after RS B on either side so you don't have to worry which method is used MORE. Sometimes you will demonstrate a concept on one of the sides of the abacus but it is not needed much by the student, just the parent doing the lesson to make something more clear. So you need to figure out which side makes it more clear to your child.
  4. If you are doing addition with carrying then you really need to be working on the back with place value labeled. If you want to get her to learn to visualize basic addition (like 8+6=14) then the front is more valuable to use because you don't have to count. KWIM? 8+6 looks like this on an abacus: xxxxxXXX xxxxxX So if your child really needs work on visualizing (she can see the 10 dark beads without counting than add 4) 83+86 looks like on the back: (ignore the dots) 1000.....100.......10....1 ........................XX XX ........................XX XX ........................XX XX ........................XX XX ........................XX X ........................XX ........................XX ........................XX So this side is meant for her to VISUALLY see what needs to be traded by the color of the beads. She can't trade any one's, but she can trade 10 black X's for one 100 bead, then she reads the columns for the answer: 1 hundred, 6 tens (60), and 9 ones. =149 So if she will be mostly doing this kind of addition, she clearly needs the back of the abacus. If she's mostly doing addition WITHIN 100, and help visualizing 5's and 10's... the front is the way to go. HTH!
  5. I've made Ree's cake and I'v made the Hershey's cake and they are BOTH great... but the Hershey's is better IMO. I bake the Hershey cake in a sheetpan and it comes out perfect!
  6. :iagree: I almost couldn't open it. I'm glad I did though, this is great news Christine! :w00t:
  7. Oddly enough, I actually feel better today than I did yesterday. :001_huh: Although last night, I thought I was going to need to call an ambulance because I thought I might die. I had 2 eggs, cheddar, mushrooms, red pepper omelette cooked in butter and green tea! :w00t: I feel full and not craving as much as yesterday, despite my dumpling and potato with stew last night. Thanks for the low carb discussion, I'm learning a lot from this thread. :)
  8. Yes, the stew was a bad move on my part. My family could've lived without dumplings. Today is another day and thanks for the confidence! I NEED to do this.
  9. Thank you all for the encouragement and advice. I didn't quite make it the whole day. :cursing: I made homemade stew today because I knew I could have a nice bowl before I put in the potatoes and dumplings for my family. I had my bowl (why didn't I just save more than one bowl? grrr) and then I went to the pot and got a second helping with a potato and a dumpling. Tomorrow is another day and I have a plan for tomorrow which should help. Wish me luck. :)
  10. ummm, either your dh is a police officer or that was way TMI! :lol::lol:
  11. Thanks for adding this. I'm trying to get a handle on what to eat and what to avoid. I first thought I would eat whole, natural foods but their is controversy in that too and I'm trying to understand it. I hate food. I hate myself. I hate that I can't seem to help myself.
  12. I have reserved this from the library but until I get it, can you tell me the basics or let me know what I can eat this week?
  13. I managed to stay away from the coffee, so that's a plus and I skipped the eggs but had sardines, avocado, romaine, olive oil, vinegar and feel full but awful.
  14. Hmmm, I took it to mean that DesertDweller was talking about non starchy vegetables which I think is important biologically for cancer fighting properties and heart health, right?
  15. I've been wanting to check out the Candida diet but I was turned off by the no fruit. Although, I decided today that I won't do fruit this week because I need to kick these carb cravings. I feel like an addict.
  16. I can definitely add some low carb veggies today. For lunch I'm going to have sardines with romaine and green pepper slices. I don't have too many bad things in the house, but right about now I would love a bowl (or 2 or 3) of rice krispies with bananas. :001_huh: I'm going to have large glass of water right now, and cook some more eggs (this time with mushrooms, onion and spinach and cheddar cheese) because I can't stand the craving. I'm seconds away to having a large cup of light and sweet coffee. :banghead: I think I'll jump on the treadmill first. Wish me luck. :tongue_smilie:
