Am I the only one who does care
Jumping In Puddles replied to Miss Peregrine's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Some children have a serious addiction to junk food whether the parents devote their life to the health of their kids or whether they deliberately give them soda in sippy cups, candy snacks and processed food. My own son would eat nothing but junk if I let him. When he goes over to a our neighbors house, he loves that they have a kitchen drawer full of junk and he will eat it until he is stuffed. My neighbor thinks that my ds is so deprived  at our house that he has an addiction to junk food because of it. When a friend of mine came to pick up her kids at my house, she had a giant bag of AirHeads in the car and my son acted like he had never been so happy in his life. I'm sure the mom thought if I just kept AirHeads in the house then my ds wouldn't raid her car for them. Wrong! He could have had airheads for breakfast and would still want them when she showed up. I do cook from scratch, make my kids eat a balanced meal at mealtimes but we also bake cookies or cupcakes, go out for ice cream, and I let them have the lolly pop from the bank or whatever. I consider that pretty normal and yet my son would run to your car (secretly even) and look for bags of treats with your dd if he though you had them. I can't give my son free access to candy and bags of cookies, etc. because he would abuse it. My dd6 on the other hand doesn't really care! If you rolled up and my kids both knew you went shopping and may have treats, my dd wouldn't ask for one, wouldn't sneak one, but may take one if you offered and only eat one bite. I feel like when my ds7 acts crazy about junk food people are making a judgment that he is not able to control himself around junk food because he is forbidden to have it! (Which, as I already said is not true! I know people think that because they have actually told me that they think that's the reason ds like to stuff himself with junk :ack2: ) Sorry I turned your comment into All About Me, lol but I hear that often enough actually directed at me! -

We have A Child's Garden of Verses, Mother Goose, Fairy tales and Fables, and Oh What a Busy Day. They are all excellent and I don't think you can go wrong with any of the other Fujikawa books look appealing. Plus the are 4 for 3 so you can get 4 for $30 with fee shipping! -
Books for Christmas Presents
Jumping In Puddles replied to dcjlkplus3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My favorite preschool book is Oh, What a Busy Day by Gyo Fujikawa. It is hardcover, beautifully illustrated, and really fun. We read it cover to cover often and even my 7yo boy enjoys it! -
Thanks everyone! :grouphug: I know AG has quality dolls, so I am going with the bitty baby. I love the look of the Corelle Dolls and also the JCToys dolls but I like the bitty accessories. :) My girl definitely doesn't want a Baby Alive doll, she wants one of those dolls that really look like they are alive! Here is another for those interested. ;)

Gifting With Books at Christmas Time
Jumping In Puddles replied to kalphs's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Oh What A Busy Day by Gyo Fujikawa is a beautiful book for children! Even my 7 year old boy enjoys it (although it is geared to preschool age). It is my all-time favorite children's book, and I think it would make an amazing gift! -

Around what lesson did you drop Rightstart C?
Jumping In Puddles replied to Snowfall's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I'm still sticking with it but my son said the same thing to me! He wants harder math and I'm so surprised because I felt that Level B was very hard for first grade and Level C seems too easy for 2nd grade. -
Make historical dress-up stuff for girls with a range of prices from little bonnets and aprons to full dress up stuff. As a matter of fact, I'll be the first customer!! :D Shouldn't be too hard, right? I can hardly find anything for my 6yo dd.. WHY IS THAT? OR, maybe I should just learn to sew! :tongue_smilie::tongue_smilie::tongue_smilie:

It is VERY similar to this (pictured is a pillow pet backpack for a child) but the one I'm looking for fits in the palm of your hand and the backpack part unzips to hold coins and the little backpack straps can be used as a handle. My ds7 is missing one. It was one of those cheap dollar store gifts that he got at the dentist but he looooved it. He was riding his bike in the woods and his little guy was not on the handle bars when he got home. He lost it months ago and I kind of forgot about it but he just mailed a letter to Santa with only one item on it, and that was it. :crying: Where can I find another??

I posted here last week when my son just learned roman numerals and he was so proud he wanted me to send his father a telegram to let him know!! LOL It still cracks me up! I have to get that boy some more recent literature! When my son William was about 3, he asked me if kings and queens were real and I told them there was a real prince named Prince William and someday he will be king. He looked at me so very seriously and said "wow......... is it me?"

The kids will be supervised and my dh will lock up the guns with his pellet gun. They target shoot with him in our yard (targets and cans) but his pellet gun is too big for them to be accurate or comfortable. My dh was concerned that the arrows could be way off target and more dangerous than the gun. Thanks to everyone's advice, I'm giving in to DH, lol!
