  1. I loved at that age: The Indian in the Cupboard Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  2. I'm guessing it's about to ship since my card was just charged. I've read about it and am anxious to read it! I didn't get a shipping notice yet, but when I checked the status of my order I got this: Anyone else order it?
  3. oh boy that is funny! It reminds me that I use to get some humdingers from my son when he was learning to make up rhymes
  4. My kids still say Yo-grit  They also still say that too! Another one they still say too is daisylion for dandelion. All these posts are making me laugh... I LOVE the mispronunciation stage of 1-3 year olds (and up!)
  5. Both my kids say myoo-ghis for music, they just can't get that one right. Anything that was "a lot" when they were little, they would say " a pile" so there was a lot of: "look at the pile of birds!" or "I'm a whole pile of hot". My daughter says berry instead of very and my very favorite, she says wuv for love. I wuv you mommy is just so sweet to my ears! Boo Boo for peekaboo (when she was a toddler) was also a cute one. She also use to call her pony tails "Pobie Tails" :)
  6. I have a suggestion: Make a sub forum under the General Parenting Forum. Sub Forum: Political and Social Issues. Make this open to members with a minimum of 100 posts to limit trolling. The forum would provide a place for free exchange of ideas and opinions while keeping the rest of the board for general parenting and non inflammatory topics. The subforum rules would be: to show respect for the other posters in the thread and to report people who are abusive or trolling by using the "report bad post" button.
  7. Oh yes! He has missed notes and in at least 3 or 4 songs this season he flubbed the words! There are some songs he nails (even if its boring) and others... missed notes, missed lyrics, awkwardness. One thing about Archie is that those songs he nails... those are songs he's sung for YEARS and years! Remember he won Star Search with a prize of $200,000 and has been coached and in many contests in his short life. I like David C. better but Archie outperformed him last night.
  8. I expected him to look like Chris Kimball (without the apron)
  9. It's strange that it takes so long for the shipping company. Maybe RS uses an ultra cheap delivery method? Why, both times, did my order from HWT ship next day after ordering and arrive 2-3 days later? Every curriculum that I ordered from Amazon also shipped same/next day to arrive a few days later? (that's without any expedited shipping)
  10. Your lucky! You could use either :) If it were me, I would use the self rising because I wouldn't use it that often and flour doesn't last all that long.
  11. You could substitute bread flour for all purpose flour. :) Even among brands of all purpose flour, some are higher in gluten than others. The high gluten ones are great for bread but the two can be interchanged as needed.
  12. It took about 11 days from when I ordered it. Good Luck :) It took 3 days from when the order was placed for me to get a "your item has shipped email"
  13. That looks great! I wonder if anyone else here has any experience with it?
  14. I know it's hard to narrow it down to one... but try! <--- ok, I changed my mind! If you want to put a few books down, that's ok by me! I'm going to go with The Last Child In The Woods by Richard Louv. I read it a few years ago and I will never forget it! Basically, it tells of the importance of children growing up with a love of nature and how we should promote community instead of fear. I can't wait to see what the hive comes up with! :lurk5:
  15. I have been noticing that a lot of people here use these books. Do you have a favorite one? One that you would recommend as a great resource for homeschoolers? Any bad one's? Any on your wish list?
  16. Good luck and have fun! No need to freak out :) Usually, the oil goes on a plate with a little salt and pepper sprinkled over it and then the plate is there for the table to share "family style".
  17. Those little tea sets are great for them to play "tea time/party". My daughter sets hers up on her floor and gives cups to her dolls, bears and her brother if he's around.
  18. Click on the quote box of the person that you want to quote. If you see a bunch of posts that you want to reply to then to the right of the
  19. You just have to skim the fat off the top of the milk. If it's in a glass bottle, you should be able to get a spoon in there. If it's in a plastic gallon container, you can pour the milk into a pitcher and wait for the cream to rise then skim it off (for skim milk!) and save the cream for something else. If you want it to taste like 1% then leave a little of the fat in and stir or shake before you pour. I'm totally jealous, btw :)
  20. Wow, you're lucky! Last year, flour was $1.29. Last week I spend $4.99 for flour! Milk was about 3.29, now it's at about $4.29 or more depending on the shop. I use to get a bakers dozen (13) bagels at our local bagel shop for 4.99 - I was shocked when I went last week and they were $9.00! The baker said because of the sharp increase in the price of flour, he was forced to raise his prices. Consider yourself lucky! :)
  21. We just use decaf tea bags and put milk and honey in our tea. Sometimes we use loose leaf tea (uptontea.com) and brew it in a ceramic tea pot. I like using my china for tea because otherwise it would NEVER get used! I like using it everyday. When my kids were very little (age 1 and 2) I gave them warm milk with cinnamon and honey in it and called it "tea". They got wise to that though and now they want the same tea I have. I have tried herbal tea but my kids just don't like it.
  22. I'm 36, I had my first baby at 31 but until now I didn't consider that a late start
