  1. I'm just saying that the best place for a small person is in a home setting rather than a school setting.... I know not everyone can be at home themselves. :001_smile: "Other loving caregiver" doesn't mean family only... Single moms and very low income families may not have much of a choice.
  2. We had sun & amazingly clean skies today, we could see all 4 mountains on the way to school.... Sorry y'all I live in OR... :D
  3. 2 inductions here, 1 after my normally starting labor stalled... easiest birth ever! No kidding, AMAZING.. they said push then there she was... I didn't even notice transition... :D One was so we wouldn't be in the hospital at Christmas... No issues with the induction... Just a tad less effective epidural. :tongue_smilie:
  4. My 2 cents.... A kiddo that little should be at a home, being cared for by their mother or other loving caregiver if a parent is not able to be home. Potty training is something a Parent should be responsible for... not a "school"
  5. We used Quizlet . It has a couple games you can use to match definitions to the words, also can print out flashcards... :-) I think that a fair amount of the TOG vocabulary is already there for you, maybe not all weeks. This was a great way to get my grammar level kiddo to learn the definitions ... he loved working against the clock.
  6. Me too! I'll be doing year 4 with a 5th grade boy, 2nd grade girl... thankfully I have a friend IRL who will also be doing year 4 with similar ages, so we hope to combine some field trips & unit celebrations... :-D We did classic year 1 in K/3rd and loved it!
  7. One of my favorite read aloud times was a few years ago. My kids were 2nd ? 3rd (boy) and K (girl) ... they had all the playmobile pirates and lego pirate ships out, and were using them as the pilgrim ships and settlers while I read aloud the Pilgrim Primer ... :-) There's nothing like a onelegged playmobile pirate as John Smith, and the Jack Sparrow as Squanto to brighten the day! They seemed to be absorbing what I read in a better than usual way that day! :D
  8. Yes, that is a royal pain.... I use HStracker to keep my records, so having to type all the info I want to keep recorded is super time consuming... They did leave some pages copy/paste enabled in the workbook section, but not the vocab words ... I was typing in all the words & key people for the week last year, not sure if I will do it again... :ack2:
  9. :iagree: I plan on using Apologia YE and tweaking the written work I assign to fit each child, but they are pretty close in age, 2nd & 4th... I would also LOVE to see a Bible curriculum laid out with the same format, Identical topic, with different levels of paperwork/ comprehension qs
  10. Nope, not anymore.. that happened occasionally way back when, but now that we are without insurance, we only go in when it is really important to.... Wheezing issues, broken bones, growths, etc... :tongue_smilie: Thankfully we've avoided the killer high fevers....
  11. You could try using an overlay layer with jut the labels on it.. all the artwork would show through, but you could still write the words on the transparency.... http://www.honeypot-hollow.com/history_extras.htm
  12. I have audible and also use librovox (free) This is the best way for me to read lately.. with a hectic schedule this is the only way I get some me time and laundry done in the same day... :-D
  13. Our library will only allow 2 books out for a given category, ie, Sacajawea, unless they are on hold from another branch.. I use Tapestry of Grace with 2 different levels, so I try to use the hold system alone..... :D
  14. My kids are at Veritas in Newberg this year.. Loving it so far. They are very committed to using Matthew 18 to work through even semi-small classroom issues between the kids. :-) Definitely worth a visit. :D
  15. http://www.nanc.org I would highly recommend a nouthetic counselor if you are Christians. The term "Nouthetic" Counseling comes from the Greek verb "noutheteo" (or the noun "nouthesis") and means "to admonish, to warn, to teach or to counsel." The word is found in numerous passages of Scripture and describes the manner in which we are to counsel and help other Christians. Biblical (nouthetic) Counseling seeks to change the heart, not just alter behavior (Mk. 7:21-23; Prov. 4:23).
  16. I had never heard idea included till we used fll. I personally would have classified ides under the word thing.
  17. I have a friend who has a site on year round liturgical year schooling.... http://www.solisortus.com/default.aspx This page has the main points that they use... http://www.solisortus.com/gettingstarted :D
  18. For our family....... 1. Education isn't neutral, and we are raising christian kids. 2. Christian school outside the home is too expensive for us. We home school to give our kids a Christian education and worldview. We have no problem with private school, and would definitely consider a good christian school, with a biblical foundation/curriculum. But hey, who has the money for that? :D Yes, there are issues with private school too, but I think that we could work around those pretty well.
  19. Possessive, singular/plural errors, Their vs there confusion and apostrophe abuse. (your, you're etc) English vs. American spelling really messes with my brain. I read a lot, and remember the way the word is spelled by reading it, so I get pretty confused when I read both versions, and then I can't decide which is the right way when I am spelling... Colour vs Color throws me for a loop each time... Mold and Mould..... Akkkkkkk how to choose?????.... :D:D:D:D
  20. We eat what we are given, or we don’t eat. Toys, TV and computer are for after school and chores. We put away the things we use. We use indoor feet and voices. We use kind speech and actions with each other. Mommy & daddy’s room is off limits, unless a parent is with you.
  21. with the first two, I gained about 30 lbs slowly throughout the pregnancy. with the last I gained all 30 in the last trimester... :glare: plecchhoo......
  22. When I was tryign to set up my school area, it was soo hard to find pictures of ideas... I would love to see this as a sticky.
  23. If you do go to Powells, don't take a minivan into the free parking garage.. it is the tightest garage I have ever seen, just pay a bit to park in a lot.... :-D
