  1. If you can eat the candies, no allergies etc.. you might try that it is MUCH easier than making caramels.
  2. Wikipedia article.... Oceania (sometimes Oceanica[1]) is a geographical, often geopolitical, region consisting of numerous lands—mostly islands in the Pacific Ocean and vicinity. The term "Oceania" was coined in 1831 by French explorer Dumont d'Urville. The term is used today in many languages to denote a continent comprising Australia and proximate Pacific islands,[2][3][4] and is one of eight terrestrial ecozones. The boundaries of Oceania are defined in a number of ways. Most definitions include parts of Australasia such as Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea, and all or part of the Malay Archipelago.[5][6][7] Ethnologically, the islands that are included in Oceania are divided into the subregions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.[8]
  3. The main thing to remember is that GOD's love is sufficient. Remember before marriage?? You weren't getting "tea" then either, but Christ's love was there. :grouphug: No, it is not right for him to withhold "tea", but your happiness does not ultimately depend on "tea", or the quantity of love in your marriage, but rather on the love of our Savior. We know that it is wrong to withhold in marriage... but I am not sure if that means divorce is ok because of that. I would highly recommend talking to your local church's elder/counselor.:001_smile:
  4. :iagree: I know just what you mean... we are blessed with a great library, so it hasn't been too bad using TOG for us so far, but I have ALWAYS wanted a HS library, you know, everything we could want to try for a while without having to fork over hundreds to try it out. Microscopes, dvds, audio books... etc.... Online texts would be cool too..... I LOVE project gutenberg :-D
  5. Well, I don't know what you should do, but here is what we did. I was 8 months preggo at the time. We dropped off the kids at grandma's, then drove to a gun show, and were teased several times by big burly gun guys while waiting in line outdoors. After all who takes their very pregnant wife to a gun show on their 10th anniversary.?? :lol:Heehee.... We were there for about 2-3 hours, and couldn't find anything in the price range we were looking for. Then we went to Busters bbq for lunch. On the way home we went to a nice outdoor mall. We then rented 2 movies, hit the grocery store and had a indoor grown up picnic for dinner, with champage, wine, cheese, chocolate covered cherries etc... while watching the movies. The 1st half was all him, and the second half was my idea... I say Disneyland sounds really fun! :D
  6. I dont either, but hey, sometimes it's the iron or crazy frizz hair that drives me batty.... :D
  7. This made me grin... growing up Uncle Ben's CONVERTED was the only rice my Dad liked because it wasn't sticky....We kids liked it too, but it was too expensive compared to the REALLY cheap rice. So for a while he got the expensive Uncle Ben's, and the rest of us got yukky normal rice...... :D Lana C.
  8. I get that stupid 911 dosn't work dream all the time!!! I did have to dial it once, (we were witnesses to very aggressive road rage (demo derby in front of my house) and it took 5 rings before they picked it up.. all I could think of was, what If someone was breaking in??
  9. One of the things that really helped me streamline, was to box up ALL the things I am not using right now... like stuff for next year, books for baby who isn't ready to read them yet, etc. Up until that point I had vast amounts of things cluttering up my space. (My mom used used sonlight at one point and I inherited her books! :-) That and I am a bookaholic:D After removing clutter, each kiddo has their own section of shelf that their workbooks and notebooks live in, things they both use are in another spot, and my own resources are on another shelf. I bought photo boxes at the craft store on sale, so I have very pretty boxes of things like supplies (pencils, erasers, scissors) math manipulatives, art supplies, etc. This is best for us, so each kiddo can find their work quickly, (1st and 3rd grade) and it is their own responsibility to keep their books neat. This has really helped with organizing my supplies, for seating I have 2 kids desks, each with a floor lamp next to them(bsmnt schoolroom) and a CURTAIN in between, so they don't spend all day giggling and whispering. We don't always use the desks, but they are great for a place to do paperwork separately... I have an old loveseat that friend was getting rid of , and we do readalouds there.. :-D
  10. Ok, YES! it is allowed by the publisher... I have a Classical Cursive book that I want to copy off for my kiddo, rather than writing directly in it... How do you do this?? Scissors?? Knife& ruler? I just don't want to end up with a ragged yukko edge.. I want to be able to run it through a document feeder on a copy machine.
  11. I did decide that he should start year 1, but I am looking for success stories first... anyone have older kids who used this method, then transferred over to doing creative writing stuff well??
  12. Anyone used the model outlined for writing in WWE/WTM and had success in the older grades yet?? I am really leaning toward the wwe approach, narration, dictation, copywork, etc... I would love to hear a success story or two before I just jump in though. I have a 3rd grade child who does NOT like the process method of learning to write, and is getting more and more frustrated by trying to cram his brain into this model. He is almost 9, and we had issues with spelling, but when we started using sequential spelling.... it really helped. He hears the word, writes the word, and reads the word with different spellings, and keeps learning the word through the week with plurals, prefixes, etc. It seems to me that the wwe type approach to writing is along the same line, familiarity with lots of good writing comes before the structure "rules" portion... I was thinking of starting with year one, based on the WWE book. Any thoughts?
  13. ""Writing with Ease is very new, so you might want to reword your subject - - you want to hear from people who have used the WTM model, not just WWE."" :blushing:Whoops... that is what I should do.. thanks.:blushing:
  14. We are in the Willamette valley... DITTO!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D
  15. NOpe , DH is not that daring... :-D I thnk they are ok, I just would prefer that guys wear socks.. all that leg showing is just a bit much... :D

  17. We loved it! I do have fast internet, and a newish (1 year old) computer so the lessons worked well for us. The lesson lengths vary, most are about 40 minutes... but both of my kids loved it. They are 8 in second grade and just turned 6 in first... the first grader would need help, because she isn't very confident w/ reading yet... but 2nd grader enjoyed it, and seemed to retain what he learned... I'm going to get it for the 1st grader for this fall... :D
  18. We are between PDX and Salem..... Lana C. http://artofajoyfulhome.blogspot.com/
  19. I don't use page protectors, but I do use a excel spreadsheet from with the booklist for the Unit broken down by week in it.... that way I can have the list right on my desktop when I am putting the next 2 weeks worth of books on hold from the library web catalog. I do substitute book occasionally, and like to have all my notes in the computer where I can find them again.... When the year is done, I'll print off the spreadsheet and include it in the TOG binder for future reference. :D
  20. I was in a similar situation a while ago. I did go ahead with a plan, (missussmartypants.com/) solids/classy/nice things that were EASY to care for, no ironing, and from the local goodwill... Even just a nice black jacket or comfy but feminine/cute knit skirt can really help round out the closet. :-) If I saw a bargain, like sleeveless tanks w/v neck (nice looking, not tshirt) at walmart for $4 .......I bought 1 of each solid color. They look great with jeans, necklace and cheapo sandalish low heels from target. The key for me was avoiding too many prints...and having a list of what I wanted (dressy pants, "sexy" jeans, knit skirts/ jacket w/ princess seams/ basic knit but not tshirt tops) .............in what colors, ie, black/red/brown for winter and pink/tan/coral for summer. Even just 1 or 2 things a month from the local resale can help... :-) BTW.. I have upper body issues too, and If you can afford it try getting a bigger size shirt and having it altered to fit your upper portion Ask the alteration shop if they can do that before you take off the tags...... :-) Getting a nice fit there is SOOO worth it.... :-) I kno what you mean about off the rack not fitting well, especially with an ample upper, the little empire waist things are sooo awful looking!
