  1. Okay, this may be a really dumb question but what is rubber cement used for? I really do not know. I don't ever remember having or using it ever in my life. I always buy colored pencils and dd never uses them. They aren't colorful according to her. Anyone have a recommendation for nice, bright colored pencils?
  2. I have a costco membership and I feel like I'm missing out! Where are the "raw" tortillas????? I need to know!
  3. I have also had media mail take quite a while. I wouldn't normally be concerned but the fact that she deactivated her account here would be a huge red flag to me.
  4. If you have an HOA you may not be able to attach anything to make the fence higher. I would do something though. I know you said you didn't want to do barbed wire but what if you did it and gave the neighbors a heads-up that there is now barbed wire. I can't imagine that they would let him climb then! I think that if your dog did bite him it could possibly be that it won't matter what actions you took to protect yourself and the dog....your dog will be the one punished for it. Also, I would be very worried about the boy throwing things in your yard. What if something he threw was potentially harmful to your dog? I'd definitely call the police non-emergency line and see what they suggest.
  5. I'm so sorry for your loss, Bill. You and your family will be in my thoughts. :grouphug:
  6. I agree with all above. We purchase from Amazon all the time and all their books are in new condition. The times where I have had an issue with an order, Amazon has taken care of the issue to my satisfaction. I'm always pleased with their customer service. Contact them!
  7. My mom lives in far from us so I just send her a card. My MIL lives an hour away and we used to try to do something with her but it was always so hectic so now we just send her a card, too. My DH declared that Mother's Day was just for me...he plans the day for me and our little family does our own thing. I love it!!
  8. My dd sometimes plays with an electronic device when we shop..mostly because I am tired and she is cranky because she doesn't want to shop in the first place but we need to get errands done. We have schooled all day and we have done projects and she's played outside and so I give her some screen time so I can get through the store without her asking for candy/toys/etc or hear her whine about having to go shopping. I have no judgment about parents letting kids use devices while shopping or wherever. My issue is with adults who use devices when they should know better. My SIL and BIL both were on the cell phones for the ENTIRE thanksgiving dinner. I don't know if they were texting or playing games or whatever but their eyes were glued to the phones the entire time. It was so rude. They do it all the time, not just at thanksgiving dinner but any time we see them. I don't think it's us that causes this because we are never with just them, it's the whole family that gets together. BTW, they are in their early 30's.
  9. I agree with the above. I really wouldn't want a school nurse, EMS, or police to determine if my child was actually suicidal or not. I think the appropriate actions were taken. However, I would be very concerned that there was nothing done at all about the bullies. I would be very upset that dd was being bullied so much that she even said those words, whether it was a cry for help or just a frustrated girl saying something emotional. That something hadn't been done about the bullying would be what made me pull my children out.
  10. I am not offended unless it is said in the presence of my dd who is 6. We were at a hockey game the other day (an adult league that my son is in) and this guy starts cussing up a storm because his girlfriend was playing and she got knocked down. Now I have been know to swear at hockey games but never in the presence of kids. There were at least 10 kids at this game and he was standing right in front of my dd saying f this and f that screaming at the refs. I said something to him and he tried to defend himself and I just said, "I would appreciate it if you wouldn't swear in front of young kids" and he calmed down and said, "I get your point" and was pretty quiet after that. I think that sometimes people just don't think before they speak and it comes out! Later I found out that it was my son that supposedly knocked his girlfriend down (it's a no checking league)! My son didn't but from our angle it probably looked like that because he was skating right at her.
  11. I just bought one from Sam's for $17. It's a Quartet brand 23x36 inch magnetic whiteboard. It is really nice and sturdy/heavy duty and the other side is a cork board. I had to replace my old one (Board dudes brand) that was warping.
  12. Yes, she is a primary dancer and loves it. She just started in January.
  13. We are on our way to San Antonio for the weekend for my dd's first highland competition. We have never been there before. Any good restaurant recommendations?
  14. I would either get the one with 7 or if you really don't like the ones with 7 get the one with 8 and then get rid of 8 and install 7. My Dh bought a new laptop with 8, wiped it and installed 7.
  15. We have Kitchen Aid one but I don't recommend it. The plastic piece that fits on the base that turns the blades wears out too fast (or in our case crumbles to nothing). My oldest son has an Oster 12-Speed blender (it's $30 at Target right now but regularly $40) and it has held up well. It has a glass container. If I didn't have one I probably would have purchased the Oster for myself.
  16. We don't have to keep track of days here but I aim for 180. We did 165 and had all major subjects done so I declared the school year over (my dd likes to work ahead in her books a lot). We start our new year April 8th ( is it pathetic that I really can't wait for the start of our new year?).
  17. I just posted about my dd's 6th birthday party. She wanted a Mister Rogers party and she insisted on dressing like Mister Rogers. I had to redo her hair because it didn't have enough of a "swoop" and she wanted it to look more like Mister Rogers!
  18. Thanks everyone! She really loves Mister Rogers A LOT! She quotes him all the time!
  19. I just thought I would share! When I asked her what she wanted as a theme for her birthday she said, "Mister Rogers"!
  20. That sounds really nice! I could really use a weekend like that!
  21. My DH just bought a new laptop and wiped windows 8 and fresh installed windows 7. We both can't stand windows 8.
  22. I guess I should clarify...I used to visit our library frequently. I stopped because they never had books that I needed and it wasn't worth going to when there is another library in the next city that had most of the books I need. I have an issue with having video game consoles when they don't have books. I can understand that they want to keep their patronage up but, in the case of my library, maybe they should try getting books! ETA: I guess I am just bitter because of the lack of books.
