I haven't read all of the responses, so I apologize if I am being redundant. My husband was a mail carrier for years. He is excellent with animals and people and he refused to carry the dog-spray because using the spray always did more harm than anything else. Anyhow, he was bit in a similar situation as what you describe. It was an older single lady and she had a small dog. My husband was never a permanent carrier for any specific route, so in this instance, like your own, this dog was completely unfamiliar with this mailman. Anyway, she opened the door, and the dog ran out and bit him on the leg. It was a very small puncture wound, but since it broke the skin, he had to report it. Their regulations are to quarantine the dog, always. My husband felt terrible because this was this lady's family basically, and he knew that the dog had been vaccinated, but they still quarantine. The postal investigation people are going to be "low-key" because this happens all.the.time. They deal with dogs (and people's strange eccentricities) in a way that unless you experience it for yourself, it is pretty hard to imagine. I hope that you can find the help you need in training your pup...I really believe that there is a solution. ((hugs)) Hope this all works out for you.

We haven't used their grade level curriculum, but for the beginning of this school year, we did use The Hobbit unit study. I absolutely loved it and so did the kids. Hope that helps some :)

What about the red shift website, where someone has listed 800 historical fiction titles? Its organized by period and free. Hopefully someone will link it, I'm on my phone and clueless about such things.

I am using AO, but not the geography. For my year 2 and 3, we are using sotw for mapwork. ( for those two grades those particular students love sotw, and we are using the program alongside AO history.) For my year five student, we are following (loosely) scm`s geography/mapwork recommendation. I dont really see the need to use a separate living books program for geography when you are using living books for history. Personally, I like working on mastering/memorizing the region that we are studying in history. Some of my feelings may come from the fact that neither I or the boys cared for the holling books..we borrowed them from the library, and they smelled terrible, and we didnt like the content enough to purchase. So, I think you could do a sufficiently CM geography incorporating black line maps into your living books history program. Hth

i never thought about it in those terms, that someone would feel like a homeschool parent would pressure them or convince them that homeschooling is the ONLY way..but thinking about some of the hs moms that i know personally, that isn't too far fetched. maybe instead of me worrying about how people make ME feel..I should think about how THEY feel.

i take the comment as a non-negative filler as well..and i've never had anyone say it to me in a rude way..but i hate this comment! i feel as though it puts me on the defensive in having to explain how I 'do it.' Then, it leads me into more explaining and almost justifying myself I feel like..when in the beginning I never really want to talk to random people about my childrens' education to begin with. I mean I don't ask the cashier at wal-mart whether or not her publicly educated children are reading on a level close to their peers..I don't ask my hair-dresser if her children get enough time with her and dear old dad, and if they are providing the children with enough extra curricular activities. :lol: Me personally, I just wish there was a way to deflect any and all conversations about homeschooling..the WHY and HOW I do it, without being incredibly rude to people.

This. Especially the comparison about divorce. I'm not going to do it..so I don't even go there. Someone on here, talked about thinking about homeschooling like an actual job. If I do that, that means I will find a solution to the problem..whether it's methods, materials, discipline or whatever..So in my opinion, (gently) don't waste your days threatening..either do it or find a solution for your homeschool. absolutely..i've been on here since 2011..every.single.day, and look how many posts i have..and i lurked here two years before it occurred to me to register and make an account.. :tongue_smilie:

I do..planning on going back to school in the next year or so..saxon math; the little, brown handbook for grammar; wtm great books, and cambridge latin.

we did on all our bathtubs and it works great..but the stuff is super slippery! here's what we did: 1. these were old fiberglass tubs that had some decent sized chips taken out of them..we filled the chips with bond-o and sanded it down. 2. cleaned the tub, like it has never been cleaned before! 3. we put an aggregate into the paint..like at the bottom of swimming pools, so we wouldn't fall and bust our heads every.single.time. we took a shower This was the only reasonable fix for us at the time that we were doing this remodel. I'm really happy with the results, no one knows that we have refinished them. But one thing I can't stress enough is how terribly the stuff smells as you are applying it..truthfully, I don't know whether or not I would use this in a house that I was presently living in..unless you could ventilate the area while blocking it off from the rest of the house. This stuff ruined food in my fridge..I couldn't believe it. I was trying to eat some leftover chicken and all I could taste was the paint. yuck!
