  1. For second grade. The teacher's edition, is the teacher's stuff in the back or is it mixed in with the student stuff? Just trying to figure out what I want to buy. Thank you.
  2. Has anyone blended Mr. Q and RSO? I like the textbook aspect of Mr. Q, but I like the lab parts of RSO. We did RSO Earth and Space last year, but retention was weak. I felt that was due to a lack of textbook type exposure. I use living lit and multiple books for English and HIstory, but it's my experience that's not the way for this family to do science. This year we're using Mr. Q's Life, which we are enjoying, but I miss the lab style of RSO. I want both! But I don't want to completely overwhelm us. I am also trying to decide what to do as far as grouping the children who will be 9, 7, 5 (and 3). Should I let the oldest get into Chemistry and rerun Earth and Space for the middle two or should I let them all do the Chem? I realize this is a decision I have to make, but am looking for some btdt from the more experienced. Your thoughts are much appreciated.
  3. All mine kids are beyond the babywearing stage, but when I did, I'd usually use the bouncy chair first in the day, until the baby had enough of that. After that though, the baby usually was in the wrap most of the day. Reasons including that I just needed to get stuff done, didn't have a place I felt was truely safe to put him/her down, that's where s/he was happiest. After nursing, I'd usually try somthing else (floor, bouncy chair), but if that wasn't going to work, I didn't waste time trying. If what you're doing now works for you, then that's great. If you want to wear the baby more, just pick a time, like after lunch, and wear for a while. I love seeing other mom's wearing outside the home. It seems so rare in my area. Wearing really save my mind. I don't know how I would have gotten anything done without it.
  4. You mean I'm the only one who is thinking the of stinky car Seinfeld episode?
  5. The Burton one isn't supposed to be the same as the Disney animated Alice, it's supposed to be a sequel, as I understand it. That said, those are the only two I've seen and I like them both.
  6. Check out Leslie Sansone's walking programs. Don't even need to leave the house.
  7. Perhaps if there was less "teaching to the test," discipline issues, busy work, and political agenda pushing, there would be time for a healthy dose of both. After several years of core standards, children (who grow to adults) will read only what needs to be read and write only what needs to be written. Goodbye creativity. I'll keep my political conspiracy theory to myself...
  8. Saying a prayer for your family
  9. Would she be started on some new crafts? What about the plastic canvas that you weave the yarn through? Latch hook? Does she read? As a child, the highlight of Christmas was new books. A new bedset or decorations for her room? Are there any low cost art classes she could take? You could also do something like find a local production and take her for dinner and a show; so something more of an experience than a "thing."
  10. Fourth grade is bordering on too old, I think. SOTW is usually done first or second grade. I know there are people who use it with older students, but they also suppliment.
  11. Who wants to exercise for me?

  14. Woohoo! July 2 is a wonderful birthday. /wink
  15. When you water breaks like that and you have no contrax...get walking! Do laps around the ward. Walking will get those coming. I've had 4 natural deliveries, 2 in which I walked to get contrax coming.
  16. I'd see if they have any of the old Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff stuff.
  17. We have a lot of talks around here as to what is real and what isn't. Why something is good or not. That said, we've jumped into mythology, fairy tales, and the such with both feet, eagerly. Comparing and contrasting myth with God's truth seems to bear more fruit that pretending that nothing else exists or if it does it is pure evil and will pollute you if you dare think about it.
  18. This so hard. I'm sorry for your loss. It's hard to know what I would do in this situation because I'm not in it. I will tell you a quick story about my family though. My grandfather passed away suddenly. Quite soon it seemed to the rest of the family that my grandmother had picked up with another man. This was someone she had known for a long time, but we knew there was nothing going on while my grandfather was still alive. I know a few of my relatives had a hard time with it, but I didn't. My grandmother came out of remission from her cancer. This man stuck by her and cared for her and loved her for the time she had left. She passed away less than 2 years after my grandfather. Because of his love for her, she was not alone when she died unexpectedly. (We knew it was coming, but even the drs didn't think so soon. And she lived out of state so no family was there). Life is short. There's no such thing as too much love.
  19. That's where I'm at. I think I saw some page protectors- 200 for $26, but considering the number of pages I'm dealing with...
  20. The coil binding is rather a bother! I use Abeka and the TM's are coil bound. Held up fine for one year, but using it again, not so well. I found this link earlier today when trying to look for myself.
  21. I wanted my children to get used to counting their blessings, so they each have a gratitude notebook they're supposed to write/draw one thing they're thankful for each day. The problem? It has turned into a list of their toys. Each day they scamper off to see what toy they see first and that's what they use. I've tried a topic of the day such as "food," but I run out of subjects rather quickly. Does anyone know of a website that has some gratitude prompts for children? I've searched, but most of what I've found is not for children. Thank you.
  22. Perhaps this has been addressed already, but I do not see it...will old content still be available or will we all be starting over? Will the threads I've saved/subscribed to still be on my list? Thank you.
  23. Checked a carseat w/ my luggage. When I got it back, it was completely ruined! I had to immediately go to the customer service where they did a report and gave me a replacement (that was the cheapest carseat ever). I ended up getting a reimbursement for it, but it was not a good experience at all. The whole reason I was flying, alone, with two small children, was for my grandfather's funeral...so just more stress. Never again!
