  1. We've only done one year, and that was straight Abeka w/ preschool worksheets for my son thrown in. I would always try to plan one week or more in advance, but that didn't always happen. What saved me was an outline. Have one for each day so you know what subjects need to be taught. Then, if you've been unable to prep beforehand, you just grab the outline for that day of the week and go from there. I imagine, copies could really kill that plan, but I didn't need to make any this past year. We're buying a small copier this summer. Perhaps that will get you thinking in some way. Now I offer the disclaimer that, as I said, I've only done this one year. Next year I'm doing an assortment of stuff (not straight Abeka) and will be doing two grades. I'll probably be back here in three months begging for help, lol.
  2. I wear my baby in a backpack through school when necessary. She is 10 months old too. I try putting her down, but if she is tired or just wants attention, into the backpack she goes. I have a total of 4 kids and frankly, the baby spends a lot of time in the back pack. I have a house to run and other people to take care of.
  3. Call the local parole office. Tell them that you have children attending the same church as this man and what information you'd like. I recently learned that in NY, some offenders aren't even on the list. You have to call the parole office and request disclosure of the offenders closest to you.
  4. We've been in our home for a year now. So excited to not live in a city anymore, to have some freedom to let the kids play in the yard w/o being hawk watched every second. Well...we just found out that the man across the street is an offender. This man's crimes are BAD. Many young victims over many many years. We checked the list before we bought the house, and there were none nearby...Come to find out that not all offenders are on the list. In NY, level 1 and some level 2 and 3s are not listed! You need to call the local parole department and tell them where you live and ask them to completely disclose the nearest offenders. I'm thankful that nothing happened over the last year and we are extra watchful now of course. We just had to make him get rid of his dog b/c he didn't keep it on a leash and it was always over here, acting threatening, and then the man would have to come get it! Sigh.
  5. HAHA! I knew there would be a way around this. I just couldn't think of it. Reading about the presidents or the holidays would probably fulfill that requirement and I could still go ahead with ancients. Thank you all.
  6. Do I really have to do US History this year? I'm so disappointed in the American History supplies out there that I wanted to put my own together. I thought we'd do some ancient history this year. Besides, we feel that the ancients should be done first anyways. I was excited about SOTW. Then I reread the regulations and it seems I'm stuck with US History. Everything seems either dry/boring or academically weak. Help! (I'm fairly new to homeschooling. We did Abeka last year for K, but I was branching out this year.) Thanks.
