  1. Our oldest came home after 6th grade. It was an amazing experience for us both. So thankful he asked to come home when I became a sahm! :D
  2. There's a few he could read here: http://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/categories/All-About-Reading/All-About-Reading-Level-1/ It's not all the stories in the books, but each sample is complete. We love AAR books, btw.
  3. Anything and everything history. I am so thankful to have went through 7-12th grade history with our oldest and now I'm starting over with our youngest. Using living books, having a Biblical worldview, using narration, and discussion to learn, oh my! I so wish my years of history in school had been so much fun and educational. Both of our boys LOVE history, so I know I must be doing it right. And, spelling rules. =D
  4. IDK. We spend around 20 minutes a day on AAS. That doesn't seem like too much, but then my ds is really learning with it. No experience with LoE.
  5. That's here! :D I'll have to show my family tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!
  6. We have a nice collection and we use the library. It's a good balance.
  7. I made my own. Super easy. I steamed fruit and/or veggies, pureed with a quick blend in the food processor, toss in some ice cube trays. When frozen you can pop them out of the tray and place in baggies. I didn't thin the food until preparing to eat, then I used a little filtered water or breastmilk if needed. Doing it this way I was able to feed my ds all organic baby food. My day care provider liked it so much she did it for her son born a year and a half after mine. Once he was past fruits and veggies we went straight to table food. My oldest refused food until closer to 10 months. He went straight to table food. This is a great web site- http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/
  8. I make my own. Works great! 1 bar of Fels Naptha soap (microwave until puffy, let cool and crumble) 1 1/2 c borax 1 1/2 c. washing soda Mix well, store in an airtight container. Use 1-2 TBL per load. I triple it and it lasts forever. I use Purex Free and Clear on diapers, 1/4 cap. Vinegar in the fabric softner dispenser for all loads.
  9. Yes, I use a 3'x2'. I started with a smaller one, but quickly found we preferred the larger one. The tiles stay on it and there's plenty of room for writing in the center (for AAS and other things). In the very beginning of level 1 we used his desk, but the large whiteboard works best overall.
  10. Fun! This was my oldest son's favorite part of 1st grade. He could still tell you all about it. My youngest did it with a group last year and it wasn't as cool. It was plastic and larger groups worked on one. Perhaps I should take the plunge and order a real pellet.
  11. HOD has blessed our schooling in so many ways. We're nearing the end of Beyond and can't wait to start Bigger.
  12. I'm 48. I've been doing mine at home for about 15 years. I like Garnier and L'Oreal. My new absolute fave is the Garnier foam. So easy, covers nicely, gives nice tones to my natural color and gray, color stays true for the full four weeks. Best of all- $8. :D I like the L'Oreal and John Frieda foam too, but the Garnier is my fave. Not a fan of Nice & Easy. For the same price, other products give better results.
  13. Exactly. Our oldest dual enrolled at one of the high schools and the CC his junior and senior year. We were still in control of his education and he graduated from home. To me, that's homeschooled.
  14. They automatically give the DTaP around here, even when calling it a tetanus. I doubt it was intentional, it's just how they operate. I know if we ever need one I'll be very specific and ask to see the bottle. FTR, tetanus lives in soil contaminated with manure. Unlikely a tetanus was needed. And, I don't think you're making too big a deal out of it. They were wrong. You'll just never convince them of that. Sorry! :grouphug:
  15. Glad to help. Truly, PM me anytime. Head support is important, but not nearly as vital as proper lap/shoulder belt fit. Lack of head support may result in whiplash. Lack of proper belts and fit can result in internal, spinal, head and more serious neck injuries. I'll take the proper fit. :001_huh: I'm sooooo sorry! :grouphug:
  16. I agree. And if she went against that he needs to contact his lawyer.
  17. I prefer a drizzle of poppyseed, oldest ds prefers ranch, youngest ds prefers it plain, dh will eat anything not bolted down. It's yummy will a little grilled chicken on top too. Then I prefer a light oil/vinegar.
  18. Well, he didn't come home until 7th. I put foreign lang off as long as possible because it seemed impossible for me to teach, $$$$, and dh had taught him very little. Most of what he did know his grandma had taught him. Junior year he dual enrolled for some advanced graphics, so we threw Spanish in his senior year. He took 1 & 2 his senior year (block scheduling), had great teachers. He isn't fluent by any means, but he can have a decent conversation with his grandma in Spanish (which she understands better than English). He reads it better than dh, lol. I really wish he'd taken four years.
  19. Spanish, dual enrolled at the high school, successful because ds is half Mexican. Sorry, I know that's not really helpful.
  20. If you have only tried CO for cooking/baking you haven't really tried CO. You really must give it as a gift to dh. Just sayin'.
  21. I'm so sorry. We've lost several small pets. It's always so hard. :grouphug:
  22. Ouch! Sounds like you pulled a rib out. I'd go to a chiro that knows ribs.
  23. According to my chart a '91 should be able to have a top tether anchor installed and a Chevy dealer should do one for no charge. The need to order a Child Restraint Top Tether Hardware Package. According to service bulletin #99-09-40-004a the parts and installation of one top anchor is free of charge. Plus, the price of the vest/Y-harness or harnessed car seat. Or, a shoulder belt retro-fit for that vehicle should be around $100-130 if dh can install it himself AND the proper holes and frame are already available. If dh decides to do this I can get him more specific info. Just a note- your 9th grader isn't safe in the rear either, and starting in '92 you'd probably have some shoulder belts, if dh is willing to look at another seat. Also, at under 15 mpg I doubt you'll be saving anything by taking this van vs 2 vehicles. :grouphug: I really can not imagine how hard this must be for you. We driver older vehicles, but I've at least felt my kids were safe. :grouphug: ETA: Here's how to pick a belt: http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net/replacement-seat-belts-help.html It looks like $65 plus $11 for hardware, plus shipping. Perhaps the cheapest option, and everyone could use it when needed.
  24. Ok, since this is happening there are options. However, none are cheap. Is dh willing to pay for a higher weight seat or vest? It could be as much as $250. Cheapest options: Vest Y-harness and booster retro-fit a shoulder belt and use the booster you have More expensive: Diono Radian (57") Britax Frontier 85 (about a 20" torso height) If she must ride in the van, the front seat with the seat all the way back, booster and lap/shoulder belt is safeR than sitting in a lap only belt. If anyone sits in the lap only belt please make sure it is pulledvery snugly across the hips/upper thighs. A top tether anchor is what you would hook the top tether to. For a forward facing seat it MUST be an approved anchor (that's different for RF approved seats).
