  1. I'm curious, what was the range of cost for that?
  2. I'm going through this with my last. I counted up all the years I've gone through this and I've been the village idiot to my teen/college kids since 2001. One of the joys of having a large family.
  3. My list. It is a mixture of fiction and non-ficton LOTR series - especially certain sections - I'll read them again and again. Out of Africa Hiding Place Life after Life (by Kate Atkinson) Cloud Atlas True Grit Cry, Beloved Country A Sacred Journey (by Buechner) Godric (by Buechner) Return of the Prodigal by Nouwen Courage to Pray by Anthony Bloom Book Thief Laurus Prodigal Summer
  4. I read Father Elijah about 10yrs ago and LOVED it. It was the kind of book I gave to several friends to read. I tried Strangers and Sojourners and just hated it. I've tried "Island of the World" but I was in a bad place emotionally and I was afraid it would going to be super sad... so I stopped after about 20pages.
  5. I'm not sure I know anyone else who has read "Canticle" I liked it way back when I read it. It's been a while though.
  6. most of my labors were between 7-11hrs. My last was 5.5 hrs long. I was never induced. I had one that would have been born in the caul but the midwife tore away the sac after her head was out but before the rest of her was born. She wasn't my fastest birth though.
  7. Saw both houses. The empty house (The one I put the note on the door) is in need of major renovations. Every room in the house needs work. Kitchen is original (60s) including the appliances (maybe not the fridge). I'm going to assume the lino flooring is probably asbestos, given the age. HVAC is old and there's no air conditioning upstairs. There is a downstairs master bedroom and bath but it needs work. It's clearly an addition. They decided to make it a 2 story cathedral ceiling master bedroom complete with wallpaper all the way up to the ceiling. :confused1: Oh yes, 70s wallpaper throughout the house and carpeting probably the same. This is a flippers house. I don't think I'm a flipper. I could do some of those things, but I don't think I can undertake all those things... even at that price. Still considering the other house. I like it but don't love it. I wish I could put my finger on it. Maybe it's just that I don't like the kitchen - which I know in my head I can change. It is priced too high and I don't want to overpay for a house and then plunk down money to do renovations. But, there's a lot of new stuff that would normally cost $$$ (HVAC, Roof, plumbing,).
  8. I think this is a great idea. Give out an obvious weird name and see how much it gets sold.
  9. we have also been hounded by RedCross calls. It used to be several times a day but it's almost stopped now. I hadn't made the connection between them and the uptick in sales calls too... I screen so I never pick up.
  10. Thanks! I was thinking the same thing about sleeping tonight.
  11. The owner had it way over priced. Now that a realtor is involved the price is down $20K and we still think it's a bit pricey. However, I saw it today. It's is a lovely house. It has a gorgeous yard... simply beautiful. Nice and flat with lots of old trees... very beautiful. A lovely picture window looking out on the backyard. The house is smaller. There's no Master Bathroom - as such. 2 full baths -one up and one down... but they are both the same size as the original bathrooms (upgraded tile, tub, etc.). The kitchen will need work. It's functional, but has never been changed, so it's the same space as when the house was built in the 60s. A tiny room. New appliances, but it's like being in a closet. It can be fixed. Walls can be removed and it has a lot going for it. But, I'm not keen on the price. But, when I got home my realtor called me back. The realtor for the house I left a note at called. It's going on the market tomorrow! It's $150K less than this other house - so probably no upgrades. We're going back to look at both houses with my dh tomorrow. I've been hoping and praying that I would have a chance to see both houses. Whatever happens, I'm so glad that has happened.
  12. I'm glad it turned out mostly good. Sorry about the pastor. That is bizarre.
  13. I completely agree with Moxie. I love shampoo.
  14. The neighborhood with the house we walked away from has rumors of two more houses coming on the market. I really like the neighborhood so it would be wonderful if we can find another house there within our price range. I heard about the first house while the previous contract was falling apart. I have a friend who lives in the neighborhood and she told me about it. It has a first floor master bdrm and bath. The owner has died and the family is preparing to put it on the market. She thought it was going to go up for sale sometime earlier this month. I went over there to check it out from the street. It's has a beautiful flat yard with lots of old trees. I put a note on the door saying we were interested in buying in the neighborhood, etc. etc. The other one had been For Sale By owner and overpriced for the neighborhood..so I just ignored. But, when I was driving through the neighborhood last week I saw it had a realtor's sign up and landscapers were working on the yard. There's nothing on the internet, but it must be coming soon...right? My realtor checked and she hasn't seen anything about it except it is still FSBO online. I haven't heard back from my note. I left it on the front door. Of course, it could just be the family uses the garage and they probably don't go by it that often. The house looked empty The waiting is killing me!
  15. I did the kitchen last month. It was way easier. This is my master bathroom with all that white tile. Doing the walls with a roller is no biggy, it's all the edging work: around the toilet, the sink, the windows, along the bathtub, along the shower, along the little alcove by the tub... ugh. I spent hours doing that (with multiple breaks)and about 20 mins painting the walls.
