  1. No, I totally understand what you are saying...not being disrespectful. And yes, I am looking at a stack of grading before I go back. I'm speaking of my own experience with certain teachers. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure if you heard the way they speak of students, you'd understand what I said. Maybe it's the way I said it. No offense.
  2. Morning, all! The puppy is walked, coffee made. To do: devotions, coffee laundry (2 loads to go!) return sweater to store, exchange for another size shop for a few shirts/shoes for work Put together a planner/notebook. I'm putting a Bible reading calendar, household chores, lesson plans, menus, workouts/steps all in one place. I hope I don't regret it! Make a run to Trader Joe's for snacks, veggies Not sure for dinner Make my step goal for the day Have a great day!
  3. At my school, some Honors/AP teachers assign work over breaks. I try to empower my students to say, "And what are you working on over your break" to the teachers. It's not fair... There is a reason it is called a "break." I realize that for some classes, summer homework (reading) is necessary. I just subscribe to the philosophy of "don't assign anything you aren't willing to do yourself."
  4. For me, what makes it difficult is when someone states "you have to read this...it will change your life." It makes me automatically NOT want to read it. Just a quirk, I guess. I purposely did not read the Harry Potter series when it came out because of this. I eventually discovered/loved it in my own time. My co-teachers rave about Bless Me, Ultima and its examples of magic realism. I have tried ten different ways from Sunday to read this book. I can't do it. I've tried. I just can't do it.
  5. Happy New Year, everyone! The puppy growled and barked all night, probably due to neighbors' parties. Someone knocked on our door at 1:30 a.m. and it freaked me out, always assume the worst. No one was there, took puppy for walk, growling/barking the entire time. Therefore, not a lot of sleep, very grumpy this morning. Dh has gone to get me Starbucks...I might need an iv of it today. To do: coffee, shower watch Rose Parade watch football make some snacks, figure out dinner work on some master bedroom things, straighten up, vacuum find bible study plan for the year (inspired by another thread) watch more football Have a great first day of 2020!
  6. We go out to a movie, early dinner. We went to the new Jumanji movie tonight, just 3 of us this time. Ds 1 and 2 did not join us for the first time. We come home, usually have a drink and dessert, finish up what's left of The Lord of the Rings trilogy that is always playing on NYE. We barely make it to midnight anymore.
  7. Dh and I took all the cardboard boxes to the recycling dumpster...we looked like Amazon addicts. Tried out my new steam mop, definitely a learning curve there. All the food was a hit at the lunch today. Dh is now assembling the desk, we'll move it to its place and call it a night. At least the house is clean, and my grading will wait for me patiently.
  8. Morning, all! The house smells wonderful this morning. Three batches of cornbread, one chocolate cake w/chocolate buttercream frosting, one vanilla cake w/vanilla buttercream frosting...I was sad to see them all leave for dh's Christmas lunch. I think the scale and my blood sugar will be grateful, though. To do: coffee walk the puppy PIYO, Day 1 workout marinate chicken, make cucumber salad for dinner vacuum, mop entry way and kitchen finish up grading find planner for new year, set up stop by classroom, straighten up stray paperwork, organize desks, print rosters for new semester walk the puppy, part 2 dinner, relax, watch tv, read Have a great day!
  9. Forgot that dh had his Christmas lunch at work tomorrow. He makes the chili, I do the cornbread and cakes for dessert. Home now from our chili shopping spree, watching football and napping. Will bake everything this evening... Hope to get working on the music room soon!
  10. Morning. all! I am dragging this morning. We drove to dh's family get together yesterday, took almost 3 hours to get there, normally a 1 hour drive. People were just over the flu, getting the flu, and frankly we were afraid to eat anything there. Stopped on the way home and got something to eat. Add all that to the stress of being there, I think we are both exhausted today. To do: coffee, coffee, coffee church? Pick up one last furniture item from a different Target, along with coffee. Our local Target was out of coffee yesterday. Maybe a last minute Christmas rush? It was very strange... Laundry Meal planning for the week, focus on calorie intake in addition to carbs (my weight has been locked in for months, no change whatsoever) Watch football, nap, more football Not sure about dinner yet Have a great day!
  11. Melissa, be safe! Jean, how's your daughter feeling today? Morning, all! Woke up to dd getting sick (not good with this). I'm sure she ate something that triggered her food allergies. Bleh... To do: Target run to pick up furniture order, a few groceries, steaks for bbq and snacks for football games library run Pick up meds for dd Print stuff at Staples or FedEx, buy frames Work on music room, hallway cabinets Watch football, work on some grading (procrastinating greatly on this) OR ***We may or may not go to dh's family gathering today. Too much to share right now, but it's part of the reason I've been off the boards for so long. Dh is torn...I'm pretty firm in not going but I'll go with to support him.
  12. Loyalty. Loyal to the things I love and need to protect; loyal to the things I should be doing, loyal to my feelings. They are almost 100% spot on all the time.
  13. Dh has moved the drum set into our "new" music room. I ordered furniture (desk/bookcase) from Target with gift cards, lyric posters from Etsy, guitar hanger thingies from Amazon.. It's coming together. Finally. It's only been a year.
  14. Oh my goodness! I started cleaning the bathroom, which led to taking everything out of the cabinets and drawers, which led to toss/keep/donate. I am now in the master closet. I don't know what happened. All I know is, I need to have this put away within the hour. I really shouldn't watch Hoarders or Konmari. Sigh...
  15. You can't ever get it back. The only thing people remember is the initial bad story which our culture seems to thrive on. I read about retractions put on back pages, etc. I think once the info is out there, it's too late.
  16. Morning, all! My list includes leftovers from yesterday...it was actually cold here, turned on the fireplace, watched movies, accomplished very little To do: coffee devotional walk the puppy, online workout laundry grade online work make low-carb snacks for tonight's football game pizza for dinner, salad for me Have a great day!
  17. I have yet to see my dd16, either. Disappeared after dinner, dh checked and she was underneath the blanket sound asleep. It came highly recommended for teens.
  18. Morning, all! The storm they predicted has kicked in, wind is howling, rain is absolutely pouring. It does limit plans on going out to shop the sales today. Christmas was very nice yesterday. We had breakfast with my mom, came back to the house, made lasagna/salad/breadsticks. Had an awesome chocolate cake for dessert which my blood sugar is regretting seriously right now. To do: devotional, coffee PiYo workout shower, breakfast get dd going on laundry, room clean up Has yet to wake up, so I'm thinking this might happen later? New weighted blanket knocked her out. look for sales on winter jackets, boots for dh and I lesson plan, create calendar for next term (Need my teacher's calendar from my classroom, so I vote no) make dr appts for dd, recheck on bronchitis, check up enjoy the fireplace, read, relax (I'm focusing my efforts on this!) leftovers for dinner Have a great day!
  19. Okay, we just finished up dinner. Eldest ds helped me with the recipe, cooking. There is hardly anything left! We have some food snobs in our family and they all loved it. Definitely adding this to my go to recipes. I also followed up with this for dessert. Overall, a very successful dinner. Keep in mind, we usually do the prime rib, mashed potatoes, full fancy dinner routine. This was a welcome change of pace.
  20. Merry Christmas! Blessings to all!
  21. Merry Christmas, all! Have a blessed and special day today!
