  1. We're in negotiations with Dad for pierced ears. :001_smile:
  2. No she hasn't let me cut the remaining dress off yet. Next week. This week she's riding at the county fair and her hair get's tucked up under the riding helmet for the most part. Next week she says. But she's been 'practicing' fixing the front half of her head in the TWA style. She's loving it. We found our jar of JAM and she's been using that. I'll let her know that it's not likely to get it all to stay down. She's got a "widow's peak" so that's what look funny about it to her. She loves the positive comments she's been getting about her cute new short front. It's making her brave for the cut. Coconut oil--we've used that in the past. I actually felt that it dried out my kids hair and skin after using it for several months. At first it was great, but then their hair started drying out and got brittle. I've been doing more shea products. The moisture seems to stick around longer.
  3. very cute! We bought some headbands today. Just a question about the front, her's keeps frizzing out from the headband (because it's so short) Any suggestions on how to keep it smoother?
  4. It's too short to do cornrows. I tried. I'd have to take her somewhere to get it done. Probably they'd tell me it was too short too.
  5. Her hair is definitely a 4. It's thin, so not sure if it's an A or B. Do you have a picture of a TWA? My other daughter wore her's very short for a while. Our biggest problem with it was her feeling upset that folks would call her a boy. A friend put in her locs. No recommendation on a hair care product. We bought some shea butter moisturizer stuff, but she refused to use it.
  6. My daughter is 15 years old. She had locs put in, but they've broken off in the front half of her head. First, what should she have done to prevent that from happening? Second, her hair is less than an inch long in the front half of her head. There are a handful of braids she pulls back into a pony tail. We've tried french braiding. We've tried twisting. We've tried blow drying. Its just too short. Or we're too inexperienced. Personally I'm hoping for advice, not a lecture here. Hair is not her priority. She wants the lowest maintenance hairstyle possible. Can you help? Other than keeping a hat on all the time. Thanks
  7. I'd ask for a lymes test too, just to be certain it isn't that. Sometimes lymes is misdiagnosed as parkinsons. http://www.personalconsult.com/articles/parkinsonsorlyme.html
  8. we replaced our HE with an old agitator style too. It's a GE. LOVE it! Our clothing hasn't been so clean since before the HE.
  9. Grocery store delis often have a great selection of fast food, hot & cold! It's less expensive and the quality, IMO, is better than fast food chains. Some Walmarts also have this. All the kid's favorites are available there too. For when you get tired of cooking in the hotel. :)
  10. The size of the house is probably the issue. I show apartments for my folks and this summer there was prospective renter who had a fabulous application -- except that the number of people going to live there was too many. It was a 2 bedroom apartment. She had 6 people listed on the application. 2 adults and 4 kids. They planned to put all 4 kids in one bedroom. :( Landlords have to be so careful in how they deny prospectives.... it's too easy to offend. Don't be offended.
  11. I used to have a Starbucks habit. For me it was the drive thru, just strap the babies in and make a run for a Frappa, ahhh! We used a Melita one-cup cone. But seriously it was a $30/month expense. It's too easy to use too much grounds with this method. But what good is a cuppa coffee if it doesn't melt a spoon or two? :) Then I bought a Keurig. Yes, it makes the best tasting coffee. For a while we used the pods exclusively. Now we use our own beans and those refillable pods. The Keurig paid for itself in 3 months--with the pods. :)) We prefer really dark brews. Our fav at the moment is the dark roast from Aldi's, seriously! The smaller Keurigs will NOT make you happy. They don't get the water hot enough, IMO. There was still the occasional Starbucks treat for a Frappa. But our daily coffee is better than 'bucks so we prefer to keep it home. Then in February I started the Trim Health Mama and in an adventurous moment I tried their Trimmacino recipe. OH MY. Totally will never go to 'bucks again. Creamy, delicious, easy, and healthy for us! Heavenly Latte. We can tweak the recipe and add chocolate to make it a mocha. DH loves them too, considers them a huge treat. This week he asked me to teach him how to make his own. I'm thinking we're done with Starbucks. It is possible not to pay $5 for a yummy cuppa coffee. :)) You just have to find the right recipe.
  12. Sequential Spelling! Down and dirty, easy to use, fun because it's on the computer. No fluffy workbook activities. I like that spelling words build on each other in the same lesson.
  13. We should post pictures of our gardens. I'm anticipating a bumper crop of tomatoes, squash and zucchini! All 31 tomato plant survived being transplanted. :)
  14. I would miss my coffee.
  15. Feeling your pain, my kids like to do this too. I send them outside, LOL! They're getting better at it. Our aussie/collie loves to oblige them by barking. Then the poodle doodle gets wound up. Three kids and two dogs whooping it up. . . . annoying!
  16. If it is a bee sting..... rub some (real) honey on it. I say real, because honey bought at the store may be just honey flavored HFCS. If no honey, rub your finger in your soap to make a paste and smear that on it. Works good on itchy bites.
  17. I'll check in periodically too. I've been doing Trim Healthy Mama too since February--loosely. It's one of those things I have to change one thing at a time. I'd lost 30 lbs eating paleo last year. But stalled out. I'm still stalled out. As in no pounds going down. But YESTERDAY..... I bought a pair of size 12 blue jean shorts. :)) Inches are coming off even though the scale hasn't moved.
  18. I made the text color white. :))
  19. Finished it. Am halfway through re-reading it again. Hmmmmm, if this had been the first in the series I wouldn't have read the 2nd. End of the series?! Spoiler alert and a question. (highlight to read) What about the gold?
  20. It's OK. He didn't say he doesn't believe in God. He's just rejecting a religion that isn't working. Personally I think it's a good thing. Christians have been the biggest influence on my own crisis of faith. Find out what/who his crisis of faith is coming from. Encourage him to study more about his faith. For me it was the need to discover the deep end of my faith -- getting away from the "God is my friend" mentality. I needed to rediscover that God is God. Tozer's books on the attributes of God really were an eye opener to me. If I could, I would take my whole family to a very fundamental church. My DH is against it. But faith, belief is where were meet, not on which church we attend. He understands that and we respect each other where we're at.
  21. Yippeee!!!! So excited. :))
  22. If they are getting serious .... invite him over to dinner, invite him to family functions, invite him on family vacations. Give the 18 year old time to watch him in your family situations. Give her time to make comparisons. It may take her a while, but it will hopefully help her slow down and take the time to look more closely at this relationship. Withhold your judgements or opinions. Or you will drive her into his arms. IF after all this she decides he's the one. Hopefully you will have gotten to know him and can ask some strategic questions or more hopefully you find out he's one of the good guys. Of course, this is what we plan to do when/if our oldest is 18. Easier said than done. I've watched other mama's model this before and it's seems to be the easier route. Above all, maintain your relationship with your daughter.
  23. "Dad works the job that pays the bills which buys the house. His house, his rules. And as long as you can speak to him respectfully, you can say anything you want." "Someday it will be your house, your rules. And we'll respectfully say what we feel needs to be said to you." Bottom line respect.
  24. I stock up on those pinwheels sold at Easter time. I stick those on the end of rows. Keeps my chicken out! Otherwise they walk down the rows and pull out my onion sets.
