  1. DS has 9 cavities per his new dentist. All but 2 are in baby teeth. And they haven't gone through the enamel. It's these teeth I think we can try to do something natural to save temporarily, Oil pulling? The other 2 are in permanent teeth in front and they'll have to be drilled and filled. It's scheduled. This kid probably falls on the spectrum somewhere because he's always "complained" (that's a mild description) about tooth paste being too strong, too gritty, too..... We've tried the natural tooth pastes that taste like strawberry. We've tried the ACT liquid. It's all over whelming to him. Would coconut oil work? The dentist also said something about seeing demineralization?! He's pretty upset about this outcome. He's the only one who came up with cavities this visit. Thanks for sharing.
  2. clean stalls laundry alter dd's "new" blue jeans from GW Boutique find the floor in the basement room bake a pie pumpkin or 3, freeze it. figure out where the dang dog peed on my bedroom floor and clean it up sew some doggie diapers for said pooch who happens to be a really sweet dog, except for the occasional midnight pee. mow the lawn cook 3 homemade meals + snacks for my voracious family wash dishes, constantly. pat myself on the back for the almost 10,000 steps this will generate today! :gnorsi:
  3. She's still growing it out, rocking the headbands. She kept the locs that didn't break and has a enough for a pony tail with those. Soon we'll cut those off when we can braid the front again.
  4. theres a picture in this thread....I can't delete it.
  5. I completely utterly shut down! Reward ONLY the good, positive, maturing behaviors. Seirously, deal with this now or you will have to deal with it the rest of the time that kid is in your home. Whatever you do for that child thats extra, stop until they shape up. When they apologize voluntarily....then you can start up again. It will cost you money, it will cost you time, it might make things worse initially. But when they finally get that they're not allow those hormones to damage relationships, it's priceless. It does bear some investigation--where is she seeing this kind of behavior/interactions? You might have to do some clean up there too.
  6. I lowered my goal to 5000 steps too. I was feeling a bit bummed not getting the, "Whoo Hoo!" dance daily when I had it set to 10,000. The weather has turned here and with the end to gardening and such I need to head indoors for my steps. Anyone else starting a winter gym routine? I usually do the treadmill or elliptical for a couple miles. Ahhh, winter, bring it on!
  7. Do you buy things by the case at Aldi? Can I just walk in there and load up a couple carts, or do I need to phone a head? Do they give a discount for buying by the case?
  8. new baby in the house by chance? All my kids regressed a bit when the new sibling arrived.
  9. My kid's charter school is recommending the MOVband. https://shop.movable.com/ Certainly more affordable. The feature's options are similar, though I haven't actually seen it! I'm trying to get more information too.
  10. Does anyone know what the quality of the MOVbands are like? https://shop.movable.com/accessories.html My kid's online charter school is recommending them for the HS PE classes. And the cost is great!
  11. How much water do you drink daily? My feet were the worst, deep cracks and dried out! I tried a lot of things. But the one simple thing I did was start drinking my 8 glasses of water a day. I actually made it into homemade black tea lemonade. But I drank a lot. I started this in January of this year. The other day my dh says to me, "How are your feet doing this summer. I haven't heard you complain. You're not wearing socks & shoes as much either, lots of bare feet." Surprised I checked my feet, they're beautiful. :)) No cracks, no dried out calluses. I might even schedule need a pedi. :) Drink water!
  12. Just a thought.... Are you using the new BPA-free lids? I read today that those shouldn't be boiled or dipped in hot water prior to setting them on the jars. I know, the box says to boil. The box is wrong! People are reporting problems with seals not happening. And that seals unseal later in storage. Todays pickles. Put them in the back of your refrigerator and use them first. What a frustration. http://livinghomegrown.com/2014/08/changes-in-canning-lid-procedures.html
  13. I didn't look at the thumbnail. But my advice is to make him type from his handwritten draft into a computer program. Teach him how to use the spell and grammar checks. My DD -- now 13-- her handwriting is atrocious! The content of her writing was most important to us. She has something to write about. Grammar & spelling rules were confusing her, so we teach them in context to her writing. 1 year after we started using the computer and amazingly her handwritting has also become legible. It's a work in progress.
  14. ...or that you don't have any credentials or title except for "Mom."
  15. How much stuff are you willing to go without? It's harder than you think to go small. We downsized 1000 sq ft 3 years ago. Although we got rid of a ton of stuff before the move, we're still getting rid of clutter. :( For me it's all about what I can get back to tidy in 30 min or less. I don't want to spend time cleaning more that than. I don't want things to get messier than that. Time yourself, see how much ya'll get done. Then decide if you can live with that much space. For us that was 7 people in 2500 sq. ft. approx. 400 sq ft. per person.
  16. It's the age. Truly this seems to happen when they're in that 10-13 age. You're smart to deal with it. It makes for happier 14-18 yr olds. One of ours is finally in that age range. It's like they have to get the correct definition of "fair" and "disappointment."
  17. Frequently! When we moved to this area I was thrilled to discover that local homeschool mom's schedule a 3 night, 3 day trip to a B&B that hosts crafting weekends. I joined them last time. WOW!!!! It was a blast. Some quilted, some scrapbooked, some read books, some went out to movies. Everyone took time to sleep in or stay up late, watch movies.... Loved it. I highly recommend it.
  18. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/pho-10000001842489/ Vietnamese Pho broth is my favorite!!!
  19. She is your husband's brother in law's wife. Technically no relation. But it's not a good stance if you want to have a positive relationship with her and ultimately your brother. When we married, my brother in law's wife smugly informed me that she and I were NOT related, period. She was NOT a sister. Over the last 20 years my husband's relationship with his brother has dwindled to nil. It's all because of his wife and her stance about me. Funny, she's an in-law too.
  20. I'm going to join--where's the best place to buy it? My sister has had one for a couple years so....(holding my nose, jumping in!) :)) I'm going to become a groupie too.
  21. Go for it! Don't burn any bridges and leave it open to maybe coming back. You may find that you miss Malaysia in a couple of years and want to go back. Just tell the folks there, "It's time to spend some time states side again." The emotions and details are personal. It's enough to say you need an extended vacation.
  22. They must have new pullets starting to lay.... strange things happen with teenage pullets eggs. If the yolk is white, it's a nutritional imbalance thing. An egg that's been frozen might also look like you described--minus the white yolk. Is the farm's refrigerator getting too cold?
  23. ...for which you must wash ALL cooking and eating dishes, wipe down the counter & clean your dining space (sweep or wipe), and clean off the charred remains from the stove top or oven DIRECTLY following your meal. I am also NOT your maid. But I will buy the groceries, for now.
  24. Ugh, math. My odest dd has fought me on math since she figured out that if she worked harder, it meant harder math. So she slowed way down. It caught up with her. She's going into 10th grade, and instead of taking chemistry with all her friends next year, she's taking physical science with her 8th grade sister. She was given the option to do summer school, We set it up for her. No deal. She won't. Maybe it's not reality that she's not going to get into chem. until she doesn't get start with all her friend. :( No algebra is also holding her back from starting at the local community college, like all her friends. This year is going to be emotionally difficult, in about 2 weeks.
  25. Missing arrows have a way of showing up again--days or months later. :)) They mow the grass behind their "shooting range" to help finding them. It also helps that they're motivated. They each have 3 arrows. You find them and shootem or you spend your time hunting for them. They help each other out. Hunting season is approaching.... I'm sure there will be the buying of many arrows before it closes. But they'll have their allowance for that. They each got a hunting bow this year when Daddy got his cross bow. We shoot through 4H. Every year the 4H county extension sets up six week, bi-weekly archery & pellet gun class for the kids. They go in and shoot arrows and have a mini tournament, by age and bow type (bare bow or sighted). My son won first place in the bare bow for 3-5th graders this year. This is over there's another 4H sponsored archery thing, it's outdoors and they walk a course shooting targets. It's a tournament too but we haven't done it yet. At the county fair there's another archery tournament. My daughter got a blue ribbon in bare bow in the senior class this year! In addition to 4H there are archery clubs through your local archery stores. Archery stores have shooting ranges and that's what my DH is planning to do this winter. Archery is a fun obsession.
