  2. I started to teach my son to read using TYCR100EZ lesson. I just started using Webster's syllabary with my son, and he seems like he is catching on. Later on, should I teach my son the 70 phonograms or is that even neccessary at this point?:glare:
  3. I just finished TYCR100EZ lessons. DS is a pretty good reader. We are going to start Webster's speller syllabary (sp?). I love the fact that once he finishes Webster's blue back speller that he will be at a 12th grade reading level. Check out thephonicspage.org or Don Potter's website.
  4. Not sure whether you saw this article from the NY Times, A Classical Education: Back to the Future:)
  5. Ok, I do not have an unlimited budget. Where do you buy your used curriculum online and in store? Please leave reviews, your opinion and/or advice about the site/store. I know about the following places: -ebay.com -craigslist.com -Well-Trained Mind Forums -usedhomeschoolcurriculum.com -homeschoolclassifieds.com -thrift stores Just thought this might be an informative thread.:)
  6. I am a NEW homeschooling mom. I just finished TYCR100EZ lessons with my son with success (in my book). I have been wavering back and forth between PR, AAS and other new curriculum vs. Wester's Speller and McGuffey's readers. I love the look and reviews of the new curricula, but I love the price and history behind the classics. Do you have any advice for this novice homeschool mom? Do you regret using newer curriculum? Do you regret using the classic curriculum? Please tell me about your experience. :bigear:
  7. I am new to homeschooling. I have been on this forum to research and find out what I am going to do next year. My son is in Pre-K, and we just finished TYCR100 easy lessons. I looked into PR and AAS as possible choices for LA. I was wondering why people choose new, expensive curriculum over free/inexpensive classics like Webster's Speller and McGuffey's Ecclectic Reader. Genuinely, I want to know if I am missing something:glare:. What is your opinion?
  8. I am exited about starting the Bible Study Guide for All Ages. One reviewer commented that it is the TOG of Bible Study. I'm sold!:001_smile:
  9. What is your favorite free curriculum/educational aid?
  10. Thank you! I was so overwhelmed looking at all of the different podcast options for spanish.
  11. Absolutely! I think it is MORE important for young children to be exposed to a good community and the Gospel than it is for us. We have friends who are Christians. We have heard the Gospel.
  12. Do you know of any great podcasts for kids for beginning spanish? Any suggestions for beginner spanish podcasts for adults? Just wanted to get recommendations :)

  17. I am looking for picture flashcards for spanish. I prefer to have more cards rather than less (1000 ideally). I love the eeboo spanish flashcards but there are only 26 in the set. I would love to have cards with a picture on the front and the word on the back. Any suggestions? :bigear:
  18. Ok, I am super excited that we FINALLY finished Teach Your Child to read in 100 easy lessons. After reading some books, I am thinking about using funnix, but it seems slow moving. What do you think about it? How have the kids responded? Any other suggestions for a good next step to move toward fluency in reading? We WILL be reading everything in site BUT I like curriculum and opportunities to teach him something new in a systematic way. FYI, Inexpensive is a must! PR and AAS are a little too expensive for me. :bigear:
