  1. Are you hungry on this plan? You mentioned that this is a very mental diet. I am guessing you may not be hungry but you may be emotionally hungry.:001_smile:Or maybe get bored and eat. I am just concerned that I will be completely controlled by this diet meaning...it will be all that I think about. Do you know what I mean? I was like that with the SB diet. I do not want to be living for meal time, but be able to live my life without it being a distraction.
  2. How much time do you have your child read-aloud to you? DS is 5.5 pre-K student. We finished TYCR100EZ lessons. We are working on Webster's speller. Any advice?
  3. My son is a pretty good reader. We finished TYCR100 EZ lessons. We have worked on Webster's Syllabary (he really picked up this concept) and some of the spelling lists. He is almost 5.5. Somehow it is really bothering me to NOT have him read-aloud to me since we are just doing Webster's spelling lists. He is good at sounding out (a little d and b confusion). How much time should I have him read-aloud to me a day? Do you have any recommendations for me? I am a novice since this is my first kid :)BTW, ds will be attending a half-day Classical Christian kindergarten next year that is Phonics-based. They will either use Saxon phonics or SWR.
  4. My son is in half day pre-K. To encourage him to learn to read, I set up a sticker chart. At the end, he would get maybe a movie night or a toy from McDonald's ($1.50). This really helped him to visualize his progress (since he is a visual learner). Also I invited his favorite stuffed animal to be the "professor". Somehow when "Professor Puppy" corrects you it is not as hard as when mom corrects you. Also I would offer to do something that she likes after her lesson was over. Try to make the process of learning to read a challenge, adventure or just plain fun. Right now, we are reading chapter books for me to read-aloud to him. After we finish a chapter book, we watch a movie that relates to the book (Stuart Little, Peter Pan, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Velveteen Rabbit etc.) Hope this gives you some ideas. Good luck!
  5. I am eating a bowl of this right! now. IT IS AMAZING! Also, it fills you up
  6. Well, I thought this might be a great thread. Let's list healthy recipes so good that they are addictive. I will start it off: Corn and black bean salsa or salad 1 can white shoe peg corn (rinsed) 1 bunch green onions 4 oz feta cheese 2 tsp garlic salt 1 can black beans (rinsed) 1/4 c sugar (or substitute) 1/4 c olive oil 1/4 c apple cider vinegar Mix everything together except the corn, green onions and cheese. Once the dressing is mixed well, add the rest of the stuff. it does taste better the longer it sits.
  7. Ok, I am considering hcg for weight loss. I know there are a bunch of women on WTM who use hcg to lose weight. What has been your experience? Testimony? What brand did you use? Type? How did you decide on that brand (reviews)? I have tried to follow some of the links, but I get a bit confused. I really respect you ladies. You do your research :001_smile:
  8. I am an "if it ain't broke don't fix it"....I try to stick to the curriculum to the end...butI have only been homeschooling for a year
  9. I think you decide on a "case by case" basis. My ds has a great attention span and love for learning. MY DD resists learning in a loose formal environment.
  10. Sorry I misspoke. Home schooling in general is not Christian, but most if not all his friends are Christian (or go to same church). I would become a part of Classical Conversations that does have a lean toward Christian values. He is apart of community sports and activities which I personally think is good exposure to the "real world" but dh disagrees. For Captain America, his experience would be Christian Home school with community activites thrown in.
  11. Ok, I am going to vent for just a second so please forgive me. My husband and I are debating public school vs. Private/home schooling. He agrees that educationally private/home schooling is better. He just does not want our kids to live in a Christian bubble. AH, I am so frustrated. Why should a 5-6 year old be exposed to the real world? Why can't we preserve our children's innocence? What's so bad about that? Why shouldn't my child be allowed to learn in a well-behaved, controlled environment? I welcome your view point. PLEASE AGREE and DISAGREE with me. Feel free to "knock some sense" into me. I just want the best for my kids, and I feel like I have to apologize for it. Yuck, I am so over this :ack2: (ok, gotta love that face icon). BTW, son would be hanging out with kids from church who are Christian and involved with Classical Conversations which would mean he would be with other Christians. Home schoolers in general are not in a Christian bubble, but my son would be, I guess. He is involved with community, secular sports and activities. Just to clarify!
  12. Do you have all of the tools that go along with OPG? That is the only thing that keeps me from getting the OPG program.
  13. My 3 year old dd is interested in learning to read. I am looking for a gentle, fun, effective reading program that I can start with her. Presently, she is watching the Leapfrog Phonics DVDs. Inexpensive is a +. I am considering: The Reading Lessons, Teach your child to read in less than 10 minutes a day, Ordinary Parent's Guide and Webster's Speller. She is an auditory learner. Any advice? Suggestions? I did use TYCR100EZ lessons with ds, but I think that is not right for dd. BTW, I am aware she is young and that reading to her is very important at this age.
