  1. :grouphug: Praying that the God of ALL Comfort will carry you through this time. I will pray for COMPLETE healing.
  2. I have heard some on here talk about Heart of Dakota's "Little Hands to Heaven". I may do that with my daughter next year. cabreban
  3. DH is Puerto Rican. He talks to ds and dd in spanish but they cannot remember etc.
  4. Ok, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this forum. It took me some time to figure out some of the lingo and how some things work. The only thing I am really not sure about is about the promotion process. I am excited about being a Hive Mind: Level 2 Nurse Bee....but I have no idea what that means :tongue_smilie: Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
  5. Oh yes, I was a fool and tried to get the suitcases out of the attic (32 weeks) to help my DH so that we could leave early for a family trip. I FELL partially through the ceiling. I ended up with lots of bruises on my legs. Oh and I was monitored 3-4 hours in the maternity ward. :tongue_smilie: Boy did my nurses enjoy that story.... especially since it has a happy ending. My dd is 2.5 and very healthy. If there is no bleeding and you feel normal movement, then everything should be fine.
  6. Thank you for your advice. The SLP who is working with my son through the school district wanted me to go to an ENT to check his vocal chords because he has a raspy voice. I will have them check his hearing. :grouphug:
  7. Am I over-thinking this? My child, 5, repeats words back to me with a different pronunciation. For example, "remember" becomes "renember" and "dough" becomes "doan". My daughter, 2 ,pronounces most everything correctly. He is reading, but do you think this might impede his spelling. This happens in maybe 1 out of ten things he repeats. Is this just normal? FYI, I do gently correct him and "break down" words for him. Sign of of a non-auditory learner? Ok I am over-thinking this....:tongue_smilie:
  8. Can you tell me anything about McGraw Hill Math for K and Harcourt Math for 1st grade? This is the curriculum used at the local school. Just wanted to hear what you may think about it. Reformed/ new math?
  9. I am interested in finding out about these books since they are the books that will be used in my local public school. Just wanting to steer away from new math/reformed math.
  10. The more that I think about it since talking with the teacher reading comprehension is a vital skill with any pursuits my children may have.
  11. Honestly, I talked to a kindergarten teacher about the fact that my son is about to finish TYCR100EZ lessons. I asked her what would they have to offer for him in the public schools. She said that she teaches comprehension which is just as important. In TYCR100EZ lessons, comprehension is taught at a basic level. I was not sure if I was missing anything. I am a COMPLETE novice at all of this. When she said that, I thought, well maybe they do something different then what I do: a. Ask them questions about the story b. Ask them to look at the pictures and answer some questions. c. Ask them what they think will happen next. d. Ask them if they were in the book what would they do. I was just wondering if I was missing something.
  12. I am just curious. Which program do you use to 12th grade? Wow, I did not know that phonics went to that grade level. I think that sounds like a great idea. Just keeping things in mind for the distant future
  13. No, I just like to keep curriculum in mind for the future. I had never heard of a curriculum that teaches phonics to 12th grade. I was just curious about it. ;)
  14. What phonics program or method do you use to get them to a 12th grade reading level?
  15. Do you know of a great program that helps with reading comprehension and/or a read-aloud program for K-1st grade? I see a bunch of options, but I want to hear from those with experience.
  16. Can you tell me anything about McGraw Hill Math for K and Harcourt Math for 1st grade?
  17. I have my own views and objections about this. I went to a classroom where the test criteria was on the board in my son's potential ps. Why do you think teachers "teaching to test" is so detrimental?

  19. Wow, I went to ds potential public school for a math event. Guess what I saw on the white board in the teachers class? Test objectives clear as day. Also I went to a few classrooms where the teachers mentioned at least twice the end of the year test. Anyways the kindergarten teacher did not know the name of the textbook. She said either McGraw Hill or Macmillan? In the 1st grade classroom they are using Harcourt Math. Anyone know anything about these Math textbooks? I am wanting to know if anyone has any experience. We use Math Mammoth right now.
  20. How many calories are kids supposed to get every day? I know adults it is 1200-1800 when dieting.
