It's probably Versed, which is a benzodiazepine similar to Valium or Xanax. It has the added benefit of causing amnesia so you don't remember much about the procedure. It's considered very safe and well tolerated. I just had a bunch of dental work and really regret that I didn't use it. Next time I need anything done I will take it. I have somewhat of a phobia of the dentist though. ETA: If you don't like the idea of amnesia, they can probably just give you Xanax.
