  1. They are in softeners? I knew they were in some detergents, but I didn't think they were in dryer sheets. Off to google....
  2. Yes, I would. I homeschooled because we had no good academic options. If we had had an excellent school, I would have sent them. I knew I could do better than our local options. I know I could not have done better than a really excellent school.
  3. I just read an article on our local news station about ebook downloads. But when I look at the library catalog, the options are limited to downloading to PC or Mac. Have you been able to check out books to your Kindle?
  4. Reform math is what got us started homeschooling. Find out the name of the curriculum your district is using, then take a look at these sites: Illinois Loop NYC Hold Mathematically Correct
  5. It's probably Versed, which is a benzodiazepine similar to Valium or Xanax. It has the added benefit of causing amnesia so you don't remember much about the procedure. It's considered very safe and well tolerated. I just had a bunch of dental work and really regret that I didn't use it. Next time I need anything done I will take it. I have somewhat of a phobia of the dentist though. ETA: If you don't like the idea of amnesia, they can probably just give you Xanax.
  6. Just finished Freakonomics (meh) and Catching Fire (thumbs up). Just started The Help, and after 13 pages can tell this is going to be a great read. And I get my brand new Kindle tomorrow! Woohoo!
  7. And Benzyl acetate comes from ylang-ylang, which is a commonly used essential oil used in aromatherapy.
  8. Yeah, and they lose a little credibility when they warn of ethanol (we drink it) and camphor (it has medicinal uses). I looked up a couple of the other ingredients and I'm not concerned.
  9. I'd rewrite it like this: 16 -(4*8) +(4squared) - (-18) -(-9)= 16 - 32 + 16 + 18 +9= =27 Order of operations is important. You have to square the 4 first, and multiply, before you can do any adding or subtracting.
  10. The guidelines most in use currently are from JNC-7 , published in 2003. New ones are supposed to come out this year. See Table 1. at the link. Here is a concise table with the major recommendations. I can't copy it here but here is a copy of the algorithm Basically, treatment is usually started at 140/ 90, or 130/80 in patients with kidney disease or diabetes. Of course, it's up to the physician and the patient to make the decision for each individual.
  11. I researched this last year when my girls wanted to start pointe. Here is an article that I found very helpful. Some excerpts...
  12. I had two colicky babies that were champion criers. But I don't think they really started crying like that until they were 2 weeks old. It's been a long time since I had a brand new baby, so maybe my memory is off, but I didn't think mine were ever awake for more than a couple hours at a time when they were less than a week old. And, to me, listening to a baby cry without attending to her is waaaay different than trying to comfort an inconsolable baby.
  13. Four hours at a time? Is that even physically possible in a week old baby? If I had to listen to my week old baby cry for 4 hours without trying to comfort her, you would have had to commit me. Seriously.
  14. I'd see a different doctor. There are numerous antifungals. Did they do a scraping to be sure it was fungal? Was it cultured?
  15. Some of those symptoms can be caused by reflux, so if your thyroid tests turn out normal, you might want to try taking something like Pepcid or Prilosec.
  16. You get better results if you google site:http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/ and your search terms.
  17. I wouldn't think coddling would cause those kinds of problems. It might somewhat delay things like going up stairs, but it wouldn't prevent him from talking, or cause him to spin or not respond to his name. I think he needs a good thorough evaluation. Soon.
