  1. I would go to Mayo if I were in your situation. I think the team approach they use would be very helpful. I'd also make sure she's getting some exercise every day. If she isn't an exerciser, start easy, like walking 15 minutes per day.
  2. It would have been too long for mine. Two days was good. We could have done another day but that would have been the limit.
  3. I don't think people entrusted with the care of patients have any business "venting" about them in public. It's disrespectful and arrogant. Would you not feel a little reluctant to speak honestly with your doctor if you thought he was going to poke fun at you, even anonymously, on a blog?
  4. Wow. He seems angry. He should be looking for a new job. Preferably one where he doesn't come in contact with humanity.
  5. It matters to me because schools have spent enormous amounts of resources on a paradigm that is probably useless. I'd prefer they used curricula and teaching methods that have been demonstrated to be effective.
  6. I serve it with Carr's Table Water Crackers and thin sliced French bread.
  7. If you use Firefox, go to Tools-> Options and find all the saved passwords there. (That only works if you have been clicking (save password) when the pop up box comes up.) To make a backup copy you need to download this password exporter add-on. Then I just keep a copy in Excel. I also have a handwritten copy of the ones I use frequently.
  8. To my ear, a three syllable first name goes best with a middle name of Sarah. My vote would be for something like Natalie Sarah Eleanor Sarah Madeline Sarah Sophia Sarah
  9. Me too, but I wouldn't call a visit for a fracture misuse. Especially if there are concerns about complications.
  10. It's true that the ER won't "fix" a fracture, but they would do an xray and look for complications (compromised blood supply, compartment syndrome, etc.). Those things need to be treated urgently, although simple fractures can wait a few days. Fractures are treated differently depending on type and location. You really need an xray to know what's going on. What did you do to it? What makes you think there are 4 fractures? Multiple fractures are much more complicated than a simple fracture. I wouldn't wait any longer.
  11. I don't know anything about etiquette, but I'm so sorry about the loss of your father. :grouphug:
  12. I don't believe he is a reliable source of information. Stripe- I didn't mean to pick on you. I really have a problem with Alfie Kohn and it's hard for me to keep my mouth shut about him. Sorry.
  13. I agree that people misrepresent the research. Just commenting on the irony of the Alfie Kohn example, since he is notorious for doing it.
  14. I wouldn't rely on Alfie Kohn to interpret any research. I lurve Willingham though.
  15. Are you putting the discs in the right way? I had the same problem but I discovered I was putting them in backwards.
  16. Mine is similar. In a large glass baking dish, layer cooked white rice, broccoli, and cooked chicken. Pour 2 cups of sauce (below) over, then top with grated cheddar. Bake for 30 minutes. Sauce: Melt 4 Tb butter, whisk in 4 Tb flour. Gradually add 2 C water. Raise heat to mdm high. Stir till thick. Add 1 cube Knorr vegetarian bouillon. Sometimes I add sauteed mushrooms, but it's good without, too.
  17. Sorry he's feeling bad. Hope he's feeling better soon.
  18. You saved yourself a lot of time. I made it about halfway and it didn't get any better. Don't feel guilty! I'm sure you used all those potentially wasted hours to make this world a better place! :D
  19. :iagree: Moby Dick was the very first book I didn't finish. Until then, I'd slog through no matter how much I disliked a book. That was a turning point in my life. :)
  20. I have three from the mindless escapist genre: She Shoots to Conquer by Dorothy Cannell. Loved the first books in her series, but this was unreadable. Beach House and When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. I enjoyed his Alex Cross novels, although they aren't exactly great literature. But these two were just terrible.
  21. Has anyone seen these this year? Target and my local grocery usually carry them but they don't have them this year.
