  1. Here's some information about brands. Turns out it's awfully hard to know who actually made your dishwasher. This is too long- I'll have to make two posts. Consumer Reports
  2. I wonder if there is a difference between boys and girls? I haven't ever seen any stats. My observation is that girls are worse. But I am really only around groups of girls. Most of dds friends text during classes at school. They can text with the phone in their pocket. One girl is proud of her ability to text behind her back. They spend a lot of time practicing.
  3. I envy you that it's not a problem there. The reason I believe there is a difference in age group is that the popularity of texting really exploded in the last couple years. The college age kids were already out of middle school by the time texting really took hold, and they didn't really develop those heavy texting habits. The obsession with peers and social networking seems to be worse in middle schoolers than high schoolers. Nielsen I can't get this table to format, but the first number is # of phone calls and the second is the number of text messages per month. Numbers are quite a bit higher this year. Texting
  4. :iagree: IME the problem is much worse in somewhat younger kids. When my 13 and 15 yo dds have friends over many of them text non-stop. Not all, but many do.
  5. Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series Pillars of the Earth Winterdance by Gary Paulsen James Herriot's books
  6. Someone recently posted a website where you could zoom in and see relative sizes of objects. I can't find that post, or the link. TIA
  7. We went to EA this afternoon and found a few pieces we liked. They have some really nice things. I'm having an EA designer come Thursday to help me plan. It's free!
  8. I've always looked young for my age until the last year or two. I've never worn much makeup but I don't like what I see in the mirror these days! :ack2: Do those expensive anti-wrinkle primers really help or is it a lost cause? Here's one that was recommended. Anyone use Smashbox Photo Finish, or have another product to recommend?
  9. Dh wants leather, I'd like microfiber. We have two rooms to do, so we might decide to do both. We hadn't considered slipcovers, but it's a thought. I really like some of the couches at the Ethan Allen link posted by MBM. I haven't looked at EA before, but am really interested in the complimentary design service described at their website. I think we'll head over there this afternoon.
  10. We have lots of bird feeders and haven't had a pest problem. Several years ago we stored the bird feed in its original bag in the garage. That was a mistake. Mice chewed right through the bag and we ended up with a family of mice living in the garage that winter. We now store it in a heavy plastic covered container and haven't had any further problems.
  11. Anyone have one? Are they comfortable? Well made? Anything I should know before I make the 2 hour trip to the nearest Pottery Barn?
  12. Cranberry sauce I use 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 white sugar Blueberry pie with a little vanilla ice cream was a big hit. Baked Brie with apricot preserves The rest was good too, but pretty standard fare.
  13. This became a big problem for us. The parental restrictions don't prevent kids from accessing the network. If they have an app (for instance a texting app) they can still use it even though safari is disabled. I wish I'd never bought the thing. It's been nothing but a hassle.
  14. Thanks. Nearest store is 90 miles away. Maybe I'll order from there if I can't find anything locally.
  15. Do you have a favorite brand? I went shopping last night and couldn't find anything. The fabric was too thin. I like leggings that are a little thicker and looser.
  16. Guess I should have looked at the high school student handbook first. We can dual enroll, but you can't dual enroll for just one class. Has to be 2 or more. That won't be a problem as long as they allow her to dual enroll and be on the pom squad. That would be a deal breaker for her. You have to have 30 hours of math to graduate. Each (real) math class counts for 10, and she will get 10 for the geometry class she's taking now, so she'll only need 2 more math classes to graduate. Also, you can test out of classes but you don't receive credit for them, but the requirement is waived. Maybe we can do that. They do allow dual enrollment for college classes at the community college, but I have heard some not-so-great things about those classes. Sure would be nice if this extremely affluent well-funded highly regarded district actually TAUGHT MATH!
