  1. My dd has gone through all the workbooks, and that is all I ever bought. Ds is working on the 3rd workbook now, and that's all he has used.
  2. My relatives are the people I am related to. My family are the relatives that I interact with regularly. They are the ones that I have more than just a blood relationship to, I have a "heart" relationship with them.
  3. We tried RS4K Biology last fall and I switched to RSO Life after 2 weeks. I didn't like RS4K at all.
  4. Out here in the Pacific Northwest our Fred Meyer (Kroger) has Crayola crayons 24 packs for $0.25 and 100 page composition books at the same price.
  5. We will be using Classical House of Learning Literature curriculum to tie our literature/reading into our history study.
  6. I just got my invitation and am now following some of your wonderful pin-boards. I haven't set any of my own up yet, but I see it happening soon. :D http://pinterest.com/chikngirl/
  7. I second the Basher book recommendation. :001_smile:
  8. :iagree: I will also add that my son has enjoyed reading them as easy readers and they have been very well-read from that.
  9. MyAudioSchool.com has an audio version of Grammar Land and there are some mom-made worksheets to go along with it that are linked there. Grammar Land is a fun story!
  10. You might look at the CHOLL list for Ancients.
  11. YES! I love back-to-school sales. We need: Glue sticks, glue sticks and more glue sticks Ditto for tape 3" binder We (I) want: Proclick (I have a $10 off coupon for Office Depot that I'm planning to use for this) Highlighters Dry Erase Markers Scissors (they still work but are getting dull) Whatever else catches me eye I <3 office supplies!
  12. We are the Delaney Academy for Excellence. Which cracks me up because I know us.
  13. I didn't learn any grammar in school outside of nouns, verbs and adjectives from doing MadLibs. I am enjoying learning along with my children and can't wait to start diagramming. It's hard to wait for them to get to it. :blushing:
  14. This year my dd's GS troop did a year long service project at an assisted living facility, learned to geocache, camped including learning outdoor skills, practiced leaving no trace and cleaning up local parks, practiced tying knots, had a sleepover at the Pacific Science Center where they learned about robotics and lots more activities. Yes they have also done some cutesy crafts and scrapbooking, but there has been plenty of meat considering the girls are K-3. I would love to find a secular version of the BS for my son to join. I disagree with some of their policies and feel I cannot support their organization.
  15. We're allowed 100 books per card, and currently have 2 card holders, soon to be 3. The kids keep their pleasure reading books on their bedside tables, and I keep my pleasure reading books on my bedside table. General knowledge books or specific interest books for me are kept in the living room on a small portion of a large bookshelf. Books I plan to use for school are kept on a small table in the kids' room where we do our schooling. I also keep a cloth bag at the top of our banister that is used only for library books, both bringing them home and taking them back. Books that we are finished with go in the bag so it's ready to go on our next library day.
  16. Tot School? Confessions of a Homeschooler's Letter of the Week Curriculum?
  17. The years that there aren't any choices that I approve of or that we don't already have I let the kids pick out a book to donate. We will donate to the library, food bank, local homeless shelter, toys for tots, etc. The kids still get to pick out their prize, which makes them happy, and I don't have to worry about bringing it home.
  18. Singapore for math. I wish I had pushed on through, but we quit because I didn't want to do it anymore.
  19. :iagree: I don't do any correcting of dictation until we are finished with that session of dictation. Having the child sound out the word they misspelled gets them to catch the error and fix it on their own most of the time.
  20. In Handwriting Without Tears, which is the only handwriting curriculum I have any experience with, students learn proper pencil grip, proper paper placement and proper letter formation. For example my son likes to make is lowercase b like a six, but it is meant to be draw with a line straight down and then come back up and around to the bottom again. I think even copying dotted lines on a sheet wouldn't have taught the correct steps to form the letter. Seeing it on the page in a 1, 2, 3 step process was much more helpful to him than anything else I tried.
  21. That's not far from me. August is a great month around here, our best weather by far. I'd be glad to give you some ideas of stuff to do, if you give me a few parameters about what you like to do. :D
