Tonight I used the last of a bottle of canola oil, but it wasn't enough, so I added olive oil and coconut oil too. When I added the plantains I was cooking, the oils foamed up like crazy. So foamy I couldn't see the plantains anymore. I'm pretty new to coconut oil - does it foam? Was it the combination of oils? Any ideas? Also, if you cook items that need a large amount of oil and don't use canola, what do you use? Thanks!

Thank you! Are you the one who started a thread about it? There is a store near us participating, and DS is very excited. -
Just read The Read Aloud Handbook. WOW!

I love this book as well. One section that changed how I think was his discussion of comic books. I have always had a dim view of them, but now I will actually take DS5 to buy them. And I read them to him sometimes if he asks. I never thought I'd do such a thing. -

:iagree: For a one year old, I'd probably give this, or a good abc book or mother goose collection. An abc book I really like is the one by Alison Jay. I also like to give Bats at the Library, Keats' Over in the Meadow, and Beatrix Potter books, but usually for slightly older children. -

Well, I wasn't going to reply because it's been so long since I've been in Catalunya. But I absolutely adored Barcelona. I stayed with a family there, so I had local guides and translators. Once when we went to Sagrada Familia, we got to meet and talk with one of the architects. So amazing. Definitely try to see all the Gaudi you can. There is also a church that has the oldest surviving rose stained glass window, Santa Maria del Pi. I really enjoyed the Miro museum. Las Ramblas is fantastic. Casa Batllo is my favorite Gaudi building. If you can find a group dancing the sardana in a square somewhere, either in Barcelona or a smaller town, that is really fun. The Gothic Quarter is great, of course. I still have a beret I bought there. I also stayed in Vilanove i la Geltru. Absolutely gorgeous. I love pa amb tomaquet, and cava! I still have my Catalan-English & English-Catalan dictionaries buried somewhere, even. I did have one frightening experience on one visit. I was awakened by the. loudest. noise I've ever heard in my life. My friend didn't wake from the noise, but from me. I was told to check if any windows were broken. None were, so we all went back to sleep, as it was probably just a small bomb. :001_unsure: It was a molotov cocktail thrown into a politician's office downtown. The separatists are really nothing to be afraid of, though. We drove from Paris to the border once, and took a train from there, but I don't remember where we stopped. HTH.

Praying still. -
I want one, personally. I've been vaguely wishing for a simple touch anyway, but this would be even better since I love reading in bed. But I already have a nook color, so I want one so I can still read while my sons are using the color. I don't know if you'd love or hate having one nook and one kindle. Maybe it would be great since you could access deals and freebies from both sites.

Summer vacation - Mammoth Cave?
annlaura replied to Sarahkay's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We're going next week. We decided to stay in a hotel in Cave City. If the boys were older and I was sure we'd do lots of hiking, we would have stayed on the grounds. We are planning to go to Kentucky Down Under too while we're there. -
I'm sorry. :grouphug: I don't have any advice, just hugs. My 26mo just switched from being impossible to get out of the bath, to refusing to get in. And he'll say he will potty on the toilet, only to get his legs practically over my head when we get near it. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

bottoms for meaty boy :-)

My son is thick too, and somehow in between most regular sizes and husky sizes. I'd have to cinch the huskies like a drawsting tote bag. But even the regulars that he can wear frequently don't allow movement. So this is what is working for us this year: Children's Place pull-on cargo short size 7, Crazy 8 pull-on plaid short size 7 (these cut it close tbh), Osh Kosh pull-on beach shorts size 6 and volleyball shorts size 6. Osh Kosh pull-on cargos are much much smaller than their other shorts. HTH. Going to be following for other ideas. ETA: I buy my son underwear, undershirts, and pajamas in size 8 or 8-10. -
After reading the exploding pyrex thread, I searched for other freezer and oven safe options. And I discovered Anchor Hocking is making a set very similar to the vintage Federal Glass sets I have. But I always thought the Federal ones were just for the refrigerator. Does anyone know if they are actually oven safe too? Or freezer safe? Or safe at all? (They're the glass boxes with ridged sides and embossed veggies or fruits on the lids.)

Thank you all so much for your prayers! Visit to dr was today. Although we were disappointed to discover the breast cancer was in the lungs, it is estrogen receptor positive so should respond well to treatment. The treatment they are using is a monthly shot, and should have fewer side effects than chemo she's had in the past. She will also receive an osteoporosis treatment shot to strengthen her bones in the hopes of keeping cancer out of them. So all in all, very hopeful. Thank you all again!

It is not a new term. It has been used for quite some time. Perhaps it is found more frequently on forms in some areas than others, but it was an option on the last census, for example.
