  1. Ooohh, that is nice! A bakfiets would suit me too, if I won the lottery. ;) I was hoping DS5 would be ready for more at the end of this summer, but so far not. Ah well.
  2. I have a bike trailer for the boys, and we love it. But we're really pushing the weight limit on the thing, and DS5 isn't comfortable enough on his own bike to really go anywhere. The younger will be 3 this week, and is at the weight/height/age limit for front and center seats. So those aren't an option. I have considered a rear seat for him and a tagalong for DS5, but wonder if it's just too much of a safety risk. Any ideas? Or do I just have to wait until DS5 is a better biker?
  3. My DS5 had this last week on his ankle. I thought it was from mosquito bites. My mom was convinced it was a spider bite. Anyway, he broke it open accidentally. It was really ugly and painful. Poor little guy.
  4. This is what my brother and SIL did for their wedding. It was perfectly lovely. I think everyone enjoyed. They had a variety of pies. And IIRC, my brother made his own groom's cake. But maybe my sister made it. Anyway, a few people had cake, but mainly people chose pie.
  5. The Dover little books are big hits with my guys. There are tons of coloring books, but we also like peelable sticker scene books which are sort of like colorforms. Mini board books have helped too. And we have a cloth farm playset. Mind you, I still rarely get through a whole service. But at least we get some time.
  6. While not technically a great books college, I believe Wabash College requires a great books colloquium of all juniors and seniors. But maybe they only require it for certain majors now.
  7. Just an fyi - I noticed American History III K-2 wasn't available through HSBC, so I emailed about it. Now it's been added. Just in case anyone else was interested. :)
  8. Yep. I shop at a store with fantastic produce and meat, way better and considerably cheaper than Walmart or the other big chain grocery stores. The other benefit is the lack of prepackaged food at this store. I will buy a few non-perishables, but only exactly what I need, i.e. canned tomato goods for spaghetti night. I can't afford to buy all organic or shop at Whole Foods all the time, but for me cooking from scratch is cheaper. Stouffers lasagna is $14. I can't buy that. At least not often. I always thought prepackaged foods were for rich people, although I've been aware of the grocery desert in low income neighborhoods. Back to the original question about marketing - it doesn't have much impact on me these days, but it never ceases to amaze me how much is geared toward children.
  9. I am trying to research swim lesson options for DS5 for the school year. The Y is an obvious one. I've just heard about British Swim School. Has anyone had any experience with them? Other ideas for lesson options? My googling isn't going well today. :tongue_smilie:
  10. Isn't it funny? My older DS started sitting, and it never occurred to me to let him try standing until he was tall enough. But my younger just hopped up on the stool. He hasn't actually pottied yet, but if he wants to try, it's fine with me. I was planning to wait before starting, but he saw Mater pull-ups and Thomas underpants and was inspired. lol. Maybe I'll try the cereal targets. Thanks all!
  11. The boy standing up, not you. ;) My almost 3yo shows interest in trying to use the toilet standing up like his big brother, but refuses sitting. Has anyone had this work with a little guy?
  12. Love mine, too. And if you want more later, Ikea will most likely still make them. But stores like Target change their offerings all the time, it seems.
  13. Owls are wonderful! DS5 has a duvet cover set from Ikea with owls, and one of DS2's favorite wraps has owls. :)
  14. :iagree: We have been able to link Bible stories to our ancient history studies, and the connections have only been helpful ime. But then, I may not be the right person to ask. I recently bought the boys a book of many cultures' flood stories. Perhaps not very LCMS of me. ;)
  15. Yikes! That's awful! I think I will try to convince to get this one now, then. Just in case.
  16. That's not nice. :glare: Last year the set he wanted was smaller, so I guess I didn't notice. Thanks for the heads up.
  17. There is a Lego Ninjago set DS5 has mentioned several times as a possible Santa request. I noticed it is on clearance at Target today. I don't want to miss it if Lego is discontinuing it, but hadn't planned on spending the money right now. Is there a way to find out if it's going away?
  18. I use the Libman Freedom Spray mop. I use vinegar and water in it, and think it's fine.
  19. My older son got every available deeply recessive gene. He does have details that are recognizable as from me or DH, but it isn't immediately obvious he resembles either of us. And the two boys are very different. I have heard so many comments, some amusing, some less so. Just recently at my grandmother's funeral, one of my cousin's tried to find out if my boys really have the same father. My MIL has even made a few, um, rude comments. She takes them back later, but she's still made them.
  20. Today I am grateful in particular for biopsy results that came back negative. Such a weight off my shoulders.
  21. I have also read that the right ratio of baking soda works. So sorry about your pets. :grouphug:
