  1. :bigear: We are minimalists as well. Hopefully someone has some good resources.
  2. Thank you. I am glad to hear others saying I should persist in this. The Dr acs office acted like they were done since we were seen, but I am going to call again in the morning and make another appt. ALso, I was unclear. He eats meat throughout the day, not just once.
  3. Oh my goodness, yes! I would not have guessed that was Alan Rickman!
  4. I am at a loss about my 7 year old son. I am going to include as many of the details as I can in the hope that this makes sense to someone, because we see a different Dr.each time we go in and this is not helping. He is off the chart in height. He is over the 100% for a 10 year old in height(he is 7). He has always been tall, his father is 6'4,his brothers are all tall. He is taller than any of them were at his age by a lot. He is in the 45% for weight, which is down %30 in the past year. He eats non stop. I have teens, I have big kids who eat a lot...this is extreme. He is always hungry. He has dairy/soy allergies and is limited to mainly fruits, veggies, meat, my homemade breads,a few brands of chips, and one brand of graham cracker. He eats one bunch of bananas a day, a bag of apples, three or more oranges, an avacado, half a loaf of bread, adult serving of meat, as many crackers as I will give him(usually three a day), half a bag of chips. He will eat three plates of pasta. His ribs and clavicles are showing. A couple months ago he woke up confused, had wet the bed(never had before), was semi hysterical saying his belly hurt. I took him to urgent care the next morning thinking he had a UTI. His culture came back clear but the Dr asked how his diabetes was when she came in the room. I looked quizical, she said hi protein in his urine was through the roof. I had his regular dr test his blood and she said it was fine. I had a couple at church do a fasting finger prick and it was 100(good). He holds his arms in to his stomach like his bones hurt. He falls asleep randomly and anywhere. He occasionally sleepwalks and while he hasn't wet the bed again he doesn't always make it to the toilet. It seems so much like diabetes, right? Am I missing something else? They tested his thyroid and never said anything about it(they called to give me his allergy test results done at the same time). I am very worried about him. The bleeding rashes from his allergies are still popping up,despite elimanating and avoiding cross contamination. I just want him to feel better! Thank you for any help.
  5. I have dreadlocks and DH likes it that way. :D I choose natural.
  6. 1 pair of muck shoes 1 pair of nice sandals for church in the summer 1 pair of ugly sneakers for plantar fascitis that I wear around the house 1 pair of ankle boots for church in the winter I try to be barefoot as much as possible.
  7. I did 7 times. The first time baby was only 2 months old and exclusively nursing. The age gap has spread out each time and they were all full time nursing. All singletons, although I did concieve twins while nursing, but that ended in mc.
  8. We are in the process of removing all the carpet from our house and I was so grossed out by the dust and hair that somehow worked under the carpet! I vacuum at least once, usually twice a day and it was disturbing! We have allergies and after only a week it has helped.
  9. It is totally spot on for my oldest three boys. My fourth is a neat mixture of those three and my fifth is still a wee baby, but I think the accuracy is mind blowing.
  10. :D:D:D:D Fantastic! Still praying for a great 9ish months for you!
  11. That doesn't seem like an overreaction to me(on your part.) Someone kicking shoes in frustration/anger would make me feel very unwelcome and I would not choose to spend anymore time with them at the moment.
  12. I know others who have used Dr.Bronners and love it. I really think you could use any shampoo as long as it isn't some ultra conditioning stuff.:D I brushed my first set out by putting handfulls of conditioner on and leaving it for an hour, then combing one dread out per day or two. It took me about 3 months to get them all out, but my hair looked healthier than ever before! They had been locked for about 14 months at that point. I am one year in right now and think if I wanted to I could comb them out in a couple weeks. I left some bangs this time, and made smaller dreads and am very happy with my hair now. Mothering.com has a great dread group under natural family living. Good luck with your journey!
  13. Brian wears his every day, I do not even own one(by choice).
  14. My dreads are a year and a month old.I backcombed them in and palmroll and seperate for maintenance. I shampoo them with a tea tree oil shampoo from Whole foods and do not condition them at this time. I never Never NEVER use wax lol. I used wax with my first set a few years ago(I combed them out for my sisters wedding :glare: it took months, but my hair was so healthy I couldn't bear cutting it.) and when I combed them out the amount of old wax was horrendous. I love the Knotty Boy and Dreadhead sites, have used shampoo from both sites and it worked well, but was cheaper to buy the tea tree oil for me.
  15. My husband is a piercer as well, and he does do genital piercings. My children do not know what they are, nor would I expect an adult to talk to them about genitals(pierced or otherwise). His co-workers are some of the most crass people you can imagine and they lower their voices in the shop when discussing potential piercings of genitals if there are children around. I would respond the same way you did and warn my daughter(or son) not to have further conversation with an adult who even mentioned that. I don't care if a child did ask if there was a piercing they wouldn't get. An appropriate answer to an 11 yo would be,"Yes." No elaboration on how they wouldn't get their P**** pierced! C'mon!
  16. Griffon,Jubilee,Epiphany, and Lucian have been born at home. I agree with the previous poster who said to call early rather than later, lol, as I delivered Luke myself! My 4 hospital births were all long drawn out complicated affairs, and my four at home have been 2 hours tops and intense but uncomplicated.
  17. Rice worked for us here as well. Except when DD5 dropped it in hot cocoa...that one never recovered.:tongue_smilie:
  18. One of our favorite things to do was put the empty(as in not enough for another sandwhich) peanut butter jars in their cage. They would scamper all over it cleaning it bare. Very cute. They also loved instant oatmeal packets. Just put the whole packet in and they would shred the paper and eat, lining their nest with the shreds after they were done.
  19. That link was great. It made the other type of black widow appear to be less shiny...a little uglier. I have also never noticed any males, they look so different!
  20. That looks like the black widows we have here. I am curious what is different about it? They are such beautiful spiders imo.:001_smile:
  21. This is the Best.Thread.Ever. All my plans to start school in August are out the window, and we are doing Hogwarts for the month. I am sooo excited! And the rats from Hagrid!!! What a wonderful idea! We have had rats as pets for years and they are sweet as can be.
  22. No towels in the shower here. We step out onto the bath mat or a towel on the floor and dry off somewhere that is dry lol. There is no dripping on the floor. Just out of curiosity...what do the people drying off in the shower think the bath mat is for then?
