  1. That child was me; I was definitely never abused by a man in my house, though. My dad was the only man living there, and he's never been abusive. :001_smile:
  2. Thanks for your answers! The child was me... As far as I know, I didn't have any other night terrors after moving from that particular house. I vividly remember audibly hearing it (whatever thing I was seeing) one time. My bedroom door was open, and the hallway light was on. I saw the thing standing by my closet, and screamed for mom. A deep voice said, "Shut up." I screamed for mom again, and it said, "SHUT UP." That particular night, my mom didn't wake up, and I hid under the covers until I went back to sleep. :D I believe I was seeing an evil spirit; I remember the horrific feeling of seeing/hearing that thing. It felt very real; I'd never seen any horror movies before, so my mind wouldn't have created the terrors by suggestion. (Mom and Dad didn't own a television when I was growing up - they still don't have one, even now!) We moved eventually moved to a new house, and I did not see anything freaky again (nor did I wake up at 3 a.m.)
  3. I'm curious to see how those who do not believe in spirits (angels/demons and/or ghosts) would take this situation: A three-year-old wakes from a normal sleep every morning, screaming at exactly 3 a.m., and pointing to a "man" in the room (in different areas of the room, not always in the same place.) A three-year-old wouldn't have preconceived notions about spirits, wouldn't know how to tell it's 3 a.m. on-the-dot each morning, etc. Would you think the child is mentally disturbed? What would you think if you knew the episodes stopped as soon as the child was moved out of that particular house? I hope this post doesn't come across as snarky; I'm genuinely interested to see how those who don't believe in spirits would rationalize the situation. :)
  4. Egg Nog (ewww - too thick! :ack2:) Runny Eggs Meat Fat and Gristle Raw Tomatoes Onions (Cooked or Raw) Melons Tapioca :ack2: Peppers Celery Overripe Bananas Dark Meat and/or Chicken/Turkey Skin Cream of Wheat Baby Octupus :ack2:
  5.:thumbdown: The 'bathroom' situation is probably awful. :scared:
  6. I also try look my best every day, but my personal method does not include adding stuff to my face. My DH prefers me without makeup (he can touch my face and kiss my lips without worrying about messing up a thing!) Why must a person add stuff to her face to look natural? How about being truly natural, and embracing natural beauty? Just because a lady decides not to wear makeup does not mean she doesn't brush her hair. I receive a lot of compliments on my long, curly hair. I don't believe a woman has to wear makeup to look professional. My business school teacher insisted all the girls at least wear mascara and lip gloss to interviews (to look professional.) When our class was invited to a law firm for an interview, I was one of only two girls in my class who didn't wear makeup. Guess who was offered the job? Little ol' me, who didn't wear a speck of makeup! Also, my dd8 has never watched me apply makeup, and she's very picky about her appearance. Her beauty routine just doesn't include adding stuff to her face!
  7. Awwww; he's adorable! He reminds me of Jacque, from Lady and the Tramp!
  8. :grouphug: Do you have to drive to TN? For me, it was really tough to drive when my loved one had just passed - even when it was expected because of cancer. The long drive just gave me way too much time to think, and the tears would not stop streaming. I wish you much peace! One thing that comforted me was knowing she was no longer having to endure so much pain. :grouphug:
  9. By Hook or Crook (I'm still thinking of other names!) :D
  10. I just thought of a couple more books which were so interesting it was hard to put them down! (These two books were from wives of the same husband. It was fascinating to read from the two different perspectives.) Shattered Dreams: My Life as a Polygamist's Wife Favorite Wife: Escape from Polygamy
  11. :iagree: I stay away (far away!) from all of the above. A Christian author I actually enjoy is Frank Peretti; I love all of his books! My favorites were This Present Darkness, and the sequel, Piercing the Darkness.
  12. Maybe this list will give you some inspiration! :D Celebration by Kool & the Gang Another One Bites The Dust by Queen We Are The Champions by Queen We Will Rock You! by Queen All Star by Smashmouth Tubthumping by Chumbawumba Eye of the Tiger by Survivor Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N' Roses We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti Don't Stop Believin' by Journey
  13. I grew up with this teaching, except it was only "giving away" pieces of your heart if you're having sex with the boyfriend/girlfriend. It wasn't taught that simply having a boyfriend/girlfriend was giving away a part of yourself.
  14. Thanks for the book suggestions! (Lovely excuse to visit Amazon...) I certainly don't want to perpetuate any myths; I've had enough of those to last a lifetime! "And this is the sea. I'd recommend bathing in it, because you people smell like the inside of my [something with the potential to be very stinky]." :D
  15. :grouphug: That is very sad news. I'm sorry for the loss of such a sweet soul! :crying:
  16. This article pointed out some details which I never considered when I was learning history. (Does anyone know of a curriculum which accurately portrays American history? :D) Warning: This article contains strong or potentially offensive language.
  17. :iagree: My dd8 really, really wanted to go to ps, but the only reason was to make friends. We joined a local homeschool group, and she now has a very close friend. She stopped asking to go to ps. I wouldn't subject your dd to the cruel kids any longer. My dh still has serious hangups from being teased and bullied at ps. :grouphug: I wish you the best!
  18. This lady was on her cell phone when she was being abducted. Her boyfriend heard it all happening... The poor guy called 911, but they told him they couldn't do anything about it, because his girlfriend was in a different state. When I was watching that episode of Disappeared, I couldn't believe that 911 operator didn't just connect him to the proper police department. He had to track down the lady's parents' number, call them, then have them call the police. By that time, the lady's cell phone was on the side of the road, and she was long gone. :( I used to feel safe walking with just a cell phone. I don't own a gun, but after watching that episode, I figured I should!
