Ok I am bumping again hoping that someone that wasn't online over the weekend will see this :) Also posting some new links for LivingUnderGrace. Here is a thread I found that gives some good links for comparisons. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111333 LUG, if you find anything please let me know too. Blessings, Paige -

Bumping in hopes that someone can tell me more. -
I just discovered these DVD's for Saxon. I will be using the 54 set if I do these instead of Saxon Teacher. If you have used these please tell me your experience with them. How do they compare to Dive, and Saxon Teacher? I'm all :bigear:, Paige

My favorites so far are Sinagpore, BJU, & Saxon. My son is currently using Teaching Textbooks but it's not reviewing enough for him so I am giving him the SM placement tests this week. I will either use SM or Saxon. Both of those are great programs and you can't go wrong with either. The key will be finding which works for each of your children. My son does better with spiral with overkill review. He also did well with Singapore when we did it earlier so we will see. My 4 year old son might very well get started in BJU or Saxon. Not sure which to try first. Hope to have the decision made by fall. HTH, Paige in TN

What handwriting program do you use?
AnointedHsMom replied to TKDmom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We use Abeka handwriting. I sure wish we would have started with cursive from the beginning for the 10 year old. I will start cursive first with the 3 year old. -
Check out Grapevine Bible Studies. It's basically inductive Bible study for kids. We love them! www.grapevinestudies.com They have free elessons available for download so you can try them before you buy too. HTH, Paige

We use AAS and I really love it. It's the only curriculum that my son has ever asked to do. He is 10 but had a hard time learning to read so we got started later with it. I did start him in Level 1 but we are doing a step a day right now. We will be in Level 2 before I know it. I just follow the instructions for each step. Each step has you review any of the phonogram, sound, key, and word cards that have not been mastered yet. When we do finally hit a step that takes more than a day for mastery I will still review all cards that are not mastered at that point each day because my son needs continual review. AAS also has a review of mastered cards every so often to make sure that the mastered cards are not forgotten either. You would need to order at least Level 1 and I recommend the Starter Pack. You will need something magnatized for the letter tiles. I bought a 2 x 3 magnatized white board by The Board Dudes from Wal-Mart for $15 so that we don't have to set up each day. AAS has so many tactile ways to learn. In a step my son will work with the letter tiles at the board, write the words from my dictation, pull down colored tokens while working on segmenting words, and alphabitize the letter tiles each lesson. AAS also has some games you can buy to have fun while reviewing phonograms or words. Hope this helps. I highly recommend All About Spelling. Paige Mom to Joshua 10 & Jacob 3 Abeka for Lang. Art Curriculum-Instruction not Appreciation
AnointedHsMom replied to whitestavern's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
There is Atelier. And I stumbled onto to this one the other day that looks good too. Handle on the Arts. We also have the Barry Stebbing set of I Can Do All Things with the DVD's and they are very good too. He gives technical information on how to draw, paint, etc. HTH! -
What are your favorite reading programs and why?

Have you seen Drawn Into the Heart of Reading? Uses real books! It's awesome. :001_smile: -
This is scary, but...
AnointedHsMom replied to JennifersLost's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I didn't have time to read it all but I sure will be back to read it what ever is up. I glanced over some of it and it looked really good. I LOVE the Twilight series. Twilight got me reading again after several years and 2 kids. Now I get up at 6 a.m. just so I can read some without the kids interrupting LOL. Way to go and I use Firefox by the way. Picture is very awesome and makes we want to read it all the more! Blessings, Paige -
My 10 year old son and 3 year old son share a room. We also have quiet time after lunch while 3 year old naps. 10yo must be quiet in the living room. No problems at all for us. They have shared a room since the 3 year old was born. I would just have quiet time for the older child in another part of the house. HTH, Paige

I have to tell someone!
AnointedHsMom replied to chickenpatty's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Oh I'm so jealous!! I have just started a couch to 5K myself and really wanted to at least walk something this summer but it's just not going to happen this year. I went out and bought some high dollar running shoes and everything. I am a retired gymnast and I have always wanted to run. So I decided this winter that I wasn't going to waste any more time. I was starting this year and that was the end of it. Keep us updated on what happens! I do just love running!!! Blessings, Paige -
If he's already reading some why don't you look at All About Spelling? It's based on Orten Gillingham system and really helps the kids spell AND read. I am using it with my son who is just starting to read on about a 2nd grade level. He's had the hardest time learning to read and this has helped greatly. HTH, Paige

Drawing From the Past is what we use. They have the strips for $15. Click on figures and you will see a pic of how the strips are used. We really like this timeline and we are past HOD users. I used this timeline with Bigger in fact. HTH, Paige

Need math suggestion...switching from mastery to spiral
AnointedHsMom replied to islandmama's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
If it were me I would go back to Singapore. We did the same thing basically. My son had done the Singapore Early Bird books and did great with them. I then went with MUS and after the first lesson I was like this is a mistake. We went back to Singapore and couldn't be happier now. HTH, Paige -
We do basically the same as amsunshine does. I haven't been using the EP books but I think I might get those too. We start the CWP books a half a year or year after we finish a book. So in other words after I finish 1A and start 1B I would start CWP & IP 1. This seems to give enough review for us. HTH, Paige

How many of you use a specific reading program??
AnointedHsMom replied to Amy+2's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We will use Drawn Into the Heart of Reading. I love it because it uses literature for their reading. Living literature in fact. www.heartofdakota.com ETA: I just realized this was a very old thread. Sorry! -
Reading Program?...(BJU Reading in particular)
AnointedHsMom replied to Pat in MI's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We used BJU but I decided not to use their reading. We will use Drawn Into the Heart of Reading from Heart of Dakota. You might look into that. http://www.heartofdakota.com HTH, Paige -
2nd grade-am I doing this right?
AnointedHsMom replied to newhsmommy's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Your plan looks good. The only thing I see missing is maybe reading like the others have mentioned. I also agree with the others in you need to pick either R&S English or FLL. Both are very thorough and a matter of preference. For reading my favorite is Drawn Into the Heart of Reading at http://www.heartofdakota.com or BJU Reading. There are so many reading options out there though. Again finding what works for you and your child. For spelling I highly recommend All About Spelling. http://www.allaboutspelling.com/miracle We use AAS and my son's reading is coming along better because of it also. HTH! -
All About Spelling teaches the rules and it's Orten Gillingham based like WRTR and SWR. http://www.allaboutspelling.com/miracle

Bob Jones Vs. Abeka (History)
AnointedHsMom replied to Homeschooling6's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I very much prefer BJU over Abeka but we made a curriculum change recently and went with Heart of Dakota and are really loving the history in it. I love BJU's TM's too. Very well laid out and easy to use. I vote BJU for sure and I would go with one grade and adjust for the younger/olders which ever way you decide to go. Trying to do 3 complete different history curriculums would wear me out but that's me. -
Poll: History for Grammar Years
AnointedHsMom replied to Medieval Mom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We use Heart of Dakota and will be using their 4 year cycle starting next year. They start with Ancients.
