  1. We are getting a Nook with our tax return. Can someone tell me how I would put these free domain books on the Nook? Where is the best place to go to get the files to put on my Nook? My main curriculum uses many of the yesterday's classics book as spines. Thanks for any help!
  2. We are not doing that high of a level but we are doing full BJU dvd's for 3rd/4th grade level. The BJU curriculum is excellent and the teachers are excellent also. It was a necessary thing for us to do this for this year but we will not be staying with it. My main complaints are the length of the school day. He schools from 8 to 3 with a small PE break and lunch then free time. With all of the other things we have going on it just makes it impossible for him to have free time. My personal opinion is that we can accomplish the same thing education wise in a shorter time period. Distance learning is a necessary thing for some families and it's a great choice. It's a great curriculum and you can not go wrong with choosing either Abeka or BJU. They are good curriculums. For our family, our education goals, etc it works better for us to move to something else for next year. With that said we may very well do 1 class via distance learning next year. I haven't made my final decisions on that yet. Blessings!
  3. I'm going on Friday and Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it.
  4. I just saw this so forgive me for not replying earlier. I am using this with my 11 year old son. I am very pleased with the program and wish I would have started it even sooner than I did. I choose it because of his age. It seemed like other phonics programs were so childish for him that it just wouldn't work. It also takes a shorter amount of time to complete than a traditional graded phonics curriculum. Intervention has been the answer. It covers phonics, spelling, reading comprehension and vocabulary. If you have an older child that is not strong in phonics and is struggling with reading then you will probably be pleased with Intervention. I hope this helps.
  5. Saxon. We have used TT 3 before but my son was not retaining anything so we changed. A friend of mine's son found a glitch in the program and figured out to manipulate the lessons and she was none the wiser. I just started my son back into Saxon. We used younger grades a few years back. I am going back to Saxon for him because he has to have that constant review that Saxon provides. He doesn't do well with learning something then not working with the process again for a while. He needs to learn something and then work with it for several lessons before it falls off the review rotation. Saxon works extremely well for this. I also plan to put the almost 5 year old in Saxon in the fall for K. I just believe in Saxon's way of doing things. I don't know the future but I don't see my younger son needing the constant review that Saxon provides but I will just modify the practice and review for him if need be. Needless to say we are just a Saxon family it looks like. I am also using their Phonics Intervention with my son and am looking strongly at their grammar for him next year also. ANDDD I am looking into the phonics program for the younger son. I just like their way of doing things it appears :D
  6. Drawn into the Heart of Reading is recommended for ages 7 to 14 or 2nd to 8th grade. I would not start DITHOR before 2nd grade. But I do not feel it's too much analysis if you are using the correct level. Hope that helps.
  7. Thanks for the information. So now I guess I need to decide on a spelling program or decide do we really need a spelling program after we finish their Phonics Intervention program. We are about half way through with that. We may not need a "program" at that point. Decisions. Decisions. :001_unsure: Thanks again~
  8. Well interesting  It says that it includes spelling. In the samples I've seen I can't really tell what spelling is there though. Looks like I will have to see it in person at convention if possible. Anyone else want to give their experience with it?
  9. I am looking into Saxon/Hake's grammar and writing 5 for my son. I have not been able to see it in person but I have looked at all the samples I can find of it. I am curious about the spelling portion of the program. Can anyone who uses this speak to the spelling portion? Would I need another spelling program or would the spelling portion be sufficient for a struggling speller? Also if anyone wants to give their experience overall with this then fell free. We use Saxon math and also use Saxon phonics intervention. Thank you!
  10. We might be....sigh...I haven't had any history this semester and I am leaning fairly strongly towards Diana Warings stuff. I have always been drawn to HOD curriculum and I remembered that HOD uses the Diana Waring CD's starting in their ancients guide. So of course I've been at HOD's site alot yesterday and this morning and I think it's just time to bite the bullet and do HOD and be done with it. I swear she picks so much of the same books & curriculum that I use independently anyway. So who knows right now but it looks like a change is coming.
  11. I'm in the same position. I am using Saxon 54 with my son and drilling, drilling, drilling the math facts with him. He's doing ok like this. I just want to mention that BJU is mastery based and Saxon is spiral. You might want to look into each of those and see which one you think she would do better with. HTH, Paige
  12. just bumping one more time hoping proudmama sees this.
  13. Just wanted to let you know that I had sent you a couple of PM's about your Teaching Tapes and hadn't heard back so I thought I would give it one last shot that you might see this :001_smile: Feel free to email me directly also at anointedhsmom@gmail.com Blessings, Paige
  14. Textbooks in general but specifically BJU. We really like BJU now. I somewhat wish we had started out with BJU from the beginning with my oldest.
  15. I voted other because I am not using it right now but would love to be using it. I just can't afford it right now but I LOVE HOD and if money were not an issue we would use all the guides.
  16. I am using Saxon's Phonics Intervention with an 11 year old that is behind in reading and spelling. It's for older children. I can already see an improvement and wish I would have started him with this sooner. It includes phonics, spelling, vocabulary, and even alphabetizing. WRTR is very good too but I needed something I could open and go with scripted lessons. I highly recommend it. HTH!
  17. Great set up. Thanks for the pictures and details!! I'm gonna have to look up IKEA.
  18. Just a quick response here for those that need to do remedial reading/phonics/spelling work with older students. I have an 11 year old that I am using Saxon's Phonics Intervention with. He had so many problems learning to read and everything has suffered because of it. I am very pleased so far with the program and really wish that I would have used this with him earlier. Just wanted to throw this out there to muddy the waters for everyone!! :o)
  19. I have the Meet the Masters subscription from HSBC and really like it but after looking at Mark Kistlers subscription I know my son would LOVE this. I might have to do this one too!! You can't hardly beat the price for 3 years and all those lessons.
  20. For Beyond there is 5 days a week (which is also a unit) scheduled. You can see samples of this guide at http://www.heartofdakota.com HTH, Paige p.s. We love HOD at our house. We will be doing the Preparing guide this coming year.
  21. My son is doing the T book. The T book has 3 sections to it. Manuscript Practice Lessons, Transitions Lessons, & then Cursive Lessons. I started my son in the Transition Lessons and there are 45 lessons that teach the formation of the letters and numbers. The Cursive Lessons have 27 weeks of lessons with 5 days work for each week. The Cursive Lessons have you practice letters and words of the Scripture for the week and then on Friday they write it out on the border sheets in their best handwriting. I can't speak to the C book but I am sure that it follows the same structure of the Cursive Lessons in the T book. HTH, Paige
  22. I appreciate you telling your experience with these dvd's. Can you tell me what exactly the teacher covers in each lesson? Like does she go over the lesson from the student book or does she just cover the examples, etc.? Math is also NOT my strong suit at all so I really need something that will teach my son without me. I can help if need be but I really need hand holding for this subject. I know.:nopity: How long is each lesson on average in the lower levels? We will be starting 54 in the fall. I learned something new just watching the sample video at their website:smilielol5:! Thanks so much! Paige
