  1. Last night--leftover spiced couscous with chicken and carrots from Sunday ( http://www.foodnetwo...cipe/index.html ) Pretty quick recipe, and it was one of those "assemble each serving" recipes, where you divided couscous/chicken, carrots, raisin/almond/scallion mixture onto each plate. Turns out, it's just as good if you mix up all the leftovers (to store easily in the fridge), then heat and serve. Tonight: pork chops with mustardy apples and onions ( http://www.dinneralo...-chops-tonight/ ) with leftover rosti potatoes (from our meal at the best Swiss restaurant ever). First course is always a salad of some sort.
  2. Has anyone seen this article from the American Association of University Professors publication? It's depressing. Really, really depressing. http://www.aaup.org/...es#.UP9fI_KGvFy
  3. For a while, i remember there was an almost daily topic on what people were planning for dinner. I used to get a lot of inspiration for future meals from those posts. Am I the only one who misses them? I've looked at (and posted in) the January meal-planning thread, which I like, but somehow it doesn't inspire me the same way.
  4. I guess I didn't see the side screen thing because I often type "chat" into my browser, and this board comes up. Question answered!
  5. Why is it so cold today??

You found the status updates! It is cold b/c I had to go out, of course.

sub-zero feels cold, even when you have the luxury of staying inside!

  6. I'm able to search, but I'm not sure if everything available is turning up in the search.
  7. Where does this status show up? I guess I could try it and find out ...
  8. I am lucky to still have access to JSTOR and a few other academic databases through my undergrad and grad alma maters, so every so often I randomly browse through academic journals (mostly economics, literature, history and music) and read random articles for fun.
  9. I feel lukewarm about them--they're okay if it's the only available biography on an artist or other figure, but I think there are much better biographies out there for kids.
  10. Also in the "don't care" category. We don't have a TV, so I hadn't even seen any of the dresses in question until it came up on this board.
  11. It's so terrible that we're hearing about events like this so often now. So glad your SIL is okay Orthodox6.

Amazon, if like pp have said, you compare the prices. Even better if you can get a subscribe and save price for any staples. Or I order with subscribe and save and then immediately cancel future shipments.
  13. I hope that you can come to a decision that you're comfortable with. :grouphug:
  14. Most likely, you'll be okay. I was just reading about a fancy restaurant somewhere that served super expensive chicken carpaccio ...
  15. I have the OvaCue with the v-wand and have somewhat irregular cycles. It's been very accurate, from what I can tell (at least it corroborates with other symptoms). I've used it both to avoid and aid in conception--worked well both ways, although not FDA approved for avoiding pregnancy. I've had mine for about 7 years, and it still works well (only had to change the battery once). From what I can tell, the display is a lot better now on the newer ones.
  16. Wishing the best for you ... :grouphug:
  17. I'm so sorry for your daughter--I hope that she (and you!) find therapy helpful.
  18. I have an idea of what needs to get done each week, and I try to squeeze it in when I have time. I especially try to get a lot of things going in the morning when the kids are eating breakfast--starting laundry, emptying dishwasher, starting the floor cleaner in a room (I have a Mint, which is useful for maintaining wood floors--I basically have it swiffer my house on a rotating basis)--and then do small spurts during the day.
  19. I'd second the suggestion to check the baking soda. I once baked cookies at my in-laws' house, and couldn't figure out why the trusty Nestle Tollhouse recipe was so off--turns out their baking soda had expired a few years earlier.
  20. I'm so sorry that you're going through this. :grouphug:
  21. I can think of a few LACs that haven't accepted AP credit for some time. You could use AP credit for placement, but it didn't change the number of courses required to graduate. I had vaguely remembered reading a news article in the last year about how more students were taking AP courses now (compared to 10-15 years ago), but the number of 4s and 5s awarded had stayed pretty steady--i.e. many more students are taking the classes, but many more students are also not doing very well on the exams. I hadn't heard about the AP classes themselves being watered down.
  22. Will (and Ariel) Durant--The Story of Civilization--it's a huge 11-volume series, though, so maybe just selections? Daniel Boorstin--I particularly like the Discoverers/Creators/Seekers trilogy, although he also wrote some American history books
  23. I'm so sorry. It's hard to watch a loved one's health decline :grouphug:
