  1. Call the EMS, police, fire department, etc. They will send or have resources. They have coloring books, stickers, etc. I did this too. We used a scrapbook that was wire bound from Michaels, and we placed certain pictures, stickers, and such into the scrapbook with a title page "Dc's Community". When we did government studies, we wrote all of the offices and leaders and did the same thing.
  2. There are two brothers' names that stick out for me. Yellowjello and Orangejello Pronounced ... yell-ah-je-lo and or-ang-je-lo Poor kids.
  3. Anyone with any ideas? The concept is fine. We have understanding. I want use and repitition with a neat flare. Since I, obviously, haven't a clue as to what I thought I read, LOL. Ideas?
  4. How about Black Beauty or the Time Machine ... oh, what about Peter Pan (so not the movie).
  5. Is there anything similar to LoF for multiplication? It seems to me I read something somewhere, but I have no idea what it was. I remember there was some related English within that series (I think) ... maybe something about an island level. Does this help? Yes, you can laugh now! I'm going to find that island. Remember that post "going crazy"? I found crazy. Need directions?
  6. Ditto - "Progeny Press Study Guides" We like them too.
  7. Did you try Bartleby's Quotes online (I hope I spelled that right.)? You could search with key words. I'm not familiar with the phrase. Sorry.
  8. I have Whites and Kenmores and Singers. :) I love love love to sew. Yes, you could figure it out. You could always email/pm me!
  9. Can you read? Well, if the anwer was yes, then have a wonderfully classical set of moments together! We are never to old to learn. We have to learn before we can teach. :) Well, darn, I'm still learning things I didn't know, and I have had an exceptional education. You can't compare apples and oranges other than that we call them fruit. When you learned it or how you learned it is irrelevant to the fact that you did. I think you can do it. Correction - I know you can do it.
  10. Formal construction of negative and non-negative integers Which you also have to consider ... ordered pairs You have to love math! NOT.
  11. I was told by a child development major to have dd do tracing. Take a coloring book or some other sort of drawing book with the tracing paper (bought at craft store), hand her a pencil, and let her go. Good penmanship is the result of hand strength, proper hold, and fine motor skills. :) We need to train the brain and the hand! My penmanship improved when I learned to play the piano and type. Go figure. I would move on to cursive if the letters are formed and readable.
  12. We used "The Body Book". The book was around $20ish. We created a model of the human body from the inside to the out. It was "super neat" to see that thing hanging there in my living room from a curtain rod. :) Each piece was cut and assembled. We enjoyed the pasting and folding. I do suggest some heavy duty crafting glue. Oh, and we photocopied onto cardstock! I took a package of stock and the book to the local UPS store. I'm sure the book is still around. I cannot remember if we found it at Rainbow or Christian Book. These were my favorite shopping stops at the time. I do recall seeing the book, I think, at Noeo. Anyone remember this?????
  13. I emailed you mcconnellboys! Yes any list is appreciated. I would love to see them, especially from those whose dc are history lovers. I have an aspiring archeaologist in the family. History must be challenging and real. She truly has a hard time with 39 Clues. The entire series sits atop of real history, but with some creative flare. How many times must she point this out to me? LOL Thank you patchfire for the awesome list.
  14. BJU has handwriting too. I noticed, and will be using, their 4th-grade workbook this year. This particular workbook states that it teaches handwriting with a pen! The workbooks continue through grade six, if I'm not mistaken. There are some samples out there to view as well. I have not used it at this point, but thought it worth mentioning because this choice is because my dd does not write well. She spent the last year in ps, and bless her heart, she was taught cursive in 2ish weeks! LOL
  15. Depending on your reason or goal, you may want to look here. I am focusing on vocabulary development. This link was generaously suggested and suited my needs and wants extremely well. I need to mention that the teaching method promotes vocabulary through the roots, prefixes, and suffixes. The Foundations level will span grades 3 through 5 and the Elements level will continue through grade 10. The initial price seems a bit high, but break it down for the multiple years. The program does not seem that costly overall.
  16. Did you look at another program? Have you been? Do you think moving up one level would be more challenging? I cringe at easy. :)
  17. 1. What's your name? Christina 2. How many kids do you have (include ages if you wish)? 3 3. What curriculum/curricula do you use? WTM / LoF / Hewitt ... a mix to suit the purpose or need 4. Something interesting about yourself. People say there isn't anything I don't do or can't do. I find the need to divide and conquer overwhelming, LOL. 5. What's your favorite season? Summer 6. Favorite subject to teach: Science 7. What's your HS approach in a nutshell? Classical 8. Why did you decide to homeschool? Disappointed in social behavior of ps children and the lack of content in class. 9. What country would you want to visit, or have you? Italy or Greece
  18. What were your experiences, tips, extra activities, ect. ? We will be doing Modern studies. I would like to know what you did or what you thought. Please let me know what you found of special like or interest with your dc. Did you supplement or find a supplement you loved? Anything you hated? TIA
  19. I did visit and read. I do believe this is a very logical approach. At this point, I am trying to top this program. I was amazed at the actual vocabulary development versus simple memorization. This is certainly the goal for "decoding" a word's meaning minus a dictionary, which I can never find in my house. OT - we must have 5 or 6 various dictionaries, and the only one I haven't lost is installed on the computer! <giggle>
  20. The cash ... Because it is a lesser amount for which I would owe taxes (gains) ... I wouldn't have to move either! No packing, no selling, no moving in, no pet kennels .... I think you get the point along with my aweful noon-grammar. :)
  21. Too funny! I know we homeschool when I look at my backyard. I have more holes than the all the roads in the state. I have a 9yo that swears she will be an archeaologist. I have rocks in boxes in the kitchen. Unfortunately, I have bones from previous owners' pets - and perhaps some of our own. We have all types of experiments happening in the yard. I chose not to ask. I'm not allowed to start the pool because of the frog investigation, one named George. I will have to put my foot down on the pool. It is getting hot!
