  1. We didn't like it. However, with that said I feel better (lol), I would start with Book A. You do not want to start in the middle IMO. (Keep in mind, we didn't like Wordly Wise either.)
  2. For a certain subject that I do not want to be sprinkled with religion ... http://www.fes.follett.com/preowned_textbooks_workbooks_K12/buy_used_textbooks.cfm I go here and do a search. I tend to gravitate towards Prentice Hall for science-like subjects.
  3. http://www.pandiapress.com/earth_space_level1.htm It is very hands-on and with some DK or Usborne it will be quite fun and informing. I like the discover science method versus the learn science.:D
  4. Do you eat cereal? I cut the side of the box. I took dollar-store spray paint and applied. I slide in magazines. Hmmm, it does not get any cheaper than $1.
  5. I did not find any one source to be the "one". We used the library. I took dd to the Juvenile section for DKs, Usbornes, and the like. This proved to be the wisest and best way to complete 180 days. I found that we enjoyed the research the most. I would have dd swap books every other Friday regardless of whether she had opened a book or not. We always checked out too many. :)
  6. RSO Earth and Astronomy here. :) We deviated slightly from the path, but dd is in love with dirt and weather at present.
  7. This and transcription are both hard areas to be employed. You must must have done both outside of the home for years to gain experience to be employed. I was a transcriptionist for many years at home. However, I had office experience and moved to at-home employment with ease. Most employers will let you move to home after a 6-month to year employment in office.
  8. Yes, very and soft. My hair has grown lots over the last month and a half. I do so suggest some Vitamin D too. The fatty omegas won't do much without the D. :tongue_smilie:
  9. Vitamin D!!!! I lost a ton of hair and I don't stress. :( Anyway, I have gone for steroid shots. These have helped stop the hair loss while I get my nutrition under control. Also, Rogain(spelling) extra strength men's for hair growth. I know it sounds funny, but I'm not pregnant and won't be. This has helped the hair grow much quicker. You should talk to a dermatologist.
  10. RSO - you can complete more than one. The schedule is set for twice a week. We are considering completing Level 1 of E & A and moving to Level 1 Life too. This would be the first dd9 will be using these from Pandia Press. I am pleased with the layout and the hands-on of E&A. I have only skimmed it quickly, but it looks like she will be able to grab library books and internet resources for more indepth studies that peak her interest as well as complete the workbook student and lab pages almost entirely on her own. This is a big plus for me. Science is something to discover and not necessarily to learn. Hmmm that sounds quite unschooly now doesn't it? :) Shame on me.
  11. We are doing Earth and Space from RSO, Pandia Press with HO Moderns and SOTW 4.
  12. I am going to use this myself this year with dd9. I will post once I have looked at it deeply. It should arrive within the week. So, give me a few to post. I agree with you. I like the structure and layout. I will be accompanying this writing with R&S for grammar, skipping the writing portions within the text. Also, we will begin Megawords. I only have literature to toss together, which will be some unit studies with additional resources still to be determined, LOL.
  13. We start at 1 too. It is not that beneath him as far as the word oists go, and it would provide you with the time to adjust to the program and ensure nothing is missing from his "rules".
  14. Anyone using this with any comment? Has anyone seen it?
  15. How do you like or dislike this? I'm looking for something not as intensive, or long, as CW. However, I want a reflection of writing by imitation. Eventually, I want dd to deliver something that reflects her experiences and opinions creatively. We do need something outside of narration to model after.
  16. I just had a refrigerator go on me. I dump anything with eggs and mayo - cole slaw mix, sour cream - any lunch meats, bacon, etc. Also, I let go of my ricotta and shredded cheese. I kept the block cheese. I kept pickles, ketchup, mustard, dressings, etc. No refrigeration at all - I would ditch dressings too that are egg or mayo based like Ranch. I tossed any leftovers too. Better safe than sorry.
  17. It really depends. There are several things that you do, including checking the lesson. I would say no more than 10-20 minutes. I have dd reading her list to me often and taking tests.
  18. I'm still waiting. I'm so sorry I posted weeks ago about the RR book, but for over 12 years, it has been my favorite! I don't have it yet either. :crying:
  19. I bought tennis balls for the dryer. It took me several hours to get my comforter dry, but it was and smelled very good with all of the lavendar dryer sheets, LOL
  20. It's the largest book of anything you can think of that you need and don't need for homeschooling! I am still waiting on mine!!!!
  21. With using the powerpoint, this could be published to the web too for others to use. Ah dang, this sounds too neat. <thinking> Where did you get this list of projects? Share them if you found them? I am interested in some of these!
  22. The first can be done in something like paintshop pro easily. The second and third could be done in something like powerpoint (the open source version too) using buttons for directions. You could draw on the power slide and use arrows to move forward and backward with a you are here map in the background. Quite time consuming but would be neat. Powerpoint will flash the slide show in full screen and you would make something like a flipbook using the arrows to direct you to new slides. I think this would be the easiest way. I would, however, program it <giggle> but then I am a programmer. :) If you have questions, hunt me down.
