  1. I requested the new one too, but I have last year's, which I just got! :) LOL
  2. Do you use R&S for reading? I am looking at the 4th/5th levels. I am wondering about this course. If you have used it, explain why you use it and what it is like.
  3. I don't have any. I did go look through my email for you! :)
  4. I love mine too. I requested the 09/10 copy that I didn't have, but the new one is on its way soon.
  5. I swear that sucker has gotten bigger again this year! I mean catalogue! Grrrr .... I do not like my fingers today.
  6. There are many options. I read into a microphone for my 2nd grader. I downloaded to an mp3 player. You could do the same with SOTW for the first grader. Leave instructions on the player for the activities and have dad help. For science, you could notebook. Read and draw pictures. You read the books to player. I would probably grab some sort of program like RSO. For penmanship, use Start Write software with blurbs from the books. I would pick a boxed English set. For math, I would get a program that has videos. I know that BJU has video classes. It can be expensive. I believe MUS does now too, but I don't know at what level. HTH some.
  7. This is a good a experience for them. However sad it is in the real world, there are adults just like her. It is good to have them recognize and respond appropriately and learn to handle individuals. I say let them play. Keep check. Ask questions frequently. I do the same with little boys. However, I believe that the parents may not be all you see them to be. Be cautious. The parents to these little boys up the street have been "super" to my face. Dd cannot play at their house because the mother indirectly called my daughter "stupid" as in "your little stupid friend" and she has been known to shout and yell at my dd. :) I kept my cool! Rules may become necessary. Be ready to enforce them.
  8. For glass stuck in the hand, duck (sp?) tape ... for bee and wasp stingers too. Lightly lay the tape across, and gently pull. :)
  9. Great. B&W is not always a bad thing. There is much more to geo than just maps, and this is what I was hoping to find. I appreciate your time in answering. I added to my cart and paid. Gosh, Rainbow sure does like to see me coming!:D
  10. I want one too, but how do I convince dh that I need yet another techie contraption? He looked at me and told me to build one. Hmph! I suppose he was being sarcastic. Does he not understand? :confused1:
  11. Anyone use this? Looking for general geo to use in conjuction with HO and SOTW.
  12. Meaning, that they learn the keyboard shortcuts, windows hotkeys, purpose of the function keys, etc. The basic touch-typing is the same - QWERTY keyboard. I was fighting with a Win 7 installation when I responded earlier. I would have elaborated!
  13. Look for keyboarding, and not typing. I know this does not sound like either should be different, but they are. Here is a great link for original and creative lesson plans for computers. Let me know if you all want some books! I will need some of you to help me write them!
  14. :iagree: I missed that. If you were in doubt, you could pick up the book for WWE. We use WWE and R&S at this house. I take my copywork, narrations, outlines, etc. from history and science readings using the guidelines in the book (not the workbook).
  15. If there is a market for this, someone needs to help me write the books. :) I'm curious. What is out there for our dc's? Do you want to know programming, management, or software for pcs? LOL I'll anwer your questions if you want to grab a book and teach yourself. :):):)
  16. We will be doing RSO Earth and Space. On Amazon, I was able to get most things cheaply, but I am stumped on binoculars. These are for a 9yo, who is responsible and careful with her things. She does have a tendency to leave things outside though. Suggestions?
  17. I opted not to do a full Latin study myself. We are studying arabic beginning this year. Before anyone has a virual "cow", let me explain. I have a budding archeaologist. I choose to tailor course work towards this ambition. If you have a child that is strong in math or science, I would encourage the Latin studies. My dd will be studying this language as well as Spanish, French, and German. Unfortunately, this mom only speaks some French! This is why I homeschool. :) At the very least, I would supplement with some sort of program for roots and stems with Latin and Greek origins. We do this also. There are several programs. I will leave that choice to you.
  18. Confusion - some days - is quite a part of life! It is possible I have them confused. Anything really is possible. I will make sure I look for your favorite choice, particularly that level. BTW, a bit OT, however, love your posts! I have had some moments over the years with posters that I love to read (I've been around forever. Remember the old board?), and I enjoy them! Actually, the group we have around in the last few years has been excellent. :D
  19. I love the link. Thank you!!!!! I will be reading lots.:D
  20. I did not use MUS with highschool. I switched in the first few weeks of Algebra. I tried a spiral approach - Saxon. We actually stayed with Saxon for Algebra 1 and 2 but used Dr. Callahan for Geometry (Jacob's). I used MUS in the 1-3 grades to cement the concept of numbers and math. "Foerster's alg 1 or Larson's, Jacob's, or Alexander's geometry text." I have looked at some of these and even used some. I, being the computer whiz I am (toot toot on my horn ;) ) love math and I love these books! I suggested MUS for "tears" and the age. To build confidence in math and to build a love for math at this point - I would use MUS with LoF supplements. Yes, all of them, if the poster decided to stick with the MUS program. I love LoF. LoF makes living math! Just my opinion, but it sounded like the poor child was getting frustrated and overwhelmed. I think that Jacob's or Forester's would be too much at this point. I would try getting through Algebra and if things went well and it worked great, I would pick up Jacob's Geometry (remember it actually is a college-level book). If things go great, I would move on to Forester's, Larson's, etc. and maintain that higher challenge. :( Bummer, how much color did your Jacob's have? (Forgot to say - thanks for the geo title! I'll be checking it out.) Just in case everyone is curious, I will be using good old Saxon because of the review this year - followed by LoF Fractions. We may end up switching but oh well :) I'm glad we have all these choices!
  21. There are some really good books for behavioral modification. I've read quite a number of them. The most important thing is a schedule and information. Have as many patterns as possible to the schedule, as you do not need to adhere to a time as much as a what comes next or what comes before the task/action at hand. Oh, eat more grapes! (Look up grape seed extract and ADD or ADHD on google)

  23. DB, it's amazing at what we took for granted from days of learning long ago. I feel that if you are pursuing the classical methods in any degree, then handwriting is important. It would not be unheard of to be practicing as an adult. Doctors are now taking penmanship classes! It is time to stop making excuses and fix it. :) Don't forget to let your children play!
