Getting the cigarette smoke smell out of a room?
Lara in Colo replied to swimmermom3's topic in The Chat Board
I also recommend Odoban--- I use it mainly to remove cat pee from carpet-- but it is wonderful-- I also think the ozone machine will work, but the Odoban is easier to find/buy. -
I cover all my windows with quilts--- better than shrink wrap. I also hang them over the doors for those **really** cold days.

Last month of college for my daughter & she has shingles...
Lara in Colo replied to J-rap's topic in The Chat Board
Go to the DR and get the Rx (antiviral) for it!! It will reduce the amount of time she has it! I have had shingles (age 35) and my daughter had it (age 10). After that just tylenol and benadryl -
You did fine--- for one thing you didn't know it was the same dog and even if you did--- you returned the dog the first time--- after that, all bets are off in my opinion

get some extra padding

I haven't used it on the floor, just the doors, walls, and handles I would think that using it on the floor would be unwise

I second using Gel-Gloss--- it is available at Home Depot-- you spray it on, let it dry and bluff off the stuff---then it leaves a coating that makes the new stuff slide off-- like waxing your car--- I don't clean my shower that often-- last weekend I had DH bring the doors outside and I scrubbed them, did the gel gloss thing, and they are good to go-- We use Dove soap because that doesn't make as much soap scum (almost none, in fact) and I use the Gel Gloss--- I scrub the shower once a year, I spray it with scrubbing bubbles twice a month and gel gloss 4 times a year.

s/o....Is homeschooling high school all or nothing where you live?
Lara in Colo replied to umsami's topic in The Chat Board
Here is also is determined by the classes they took--- Bible for 4 years? Well, if they can fit that class into a box called "historical literature" or something then they might get one semester-- but lose a lot of homeschool credits. -

I also live in Colorado, Like Margaret, but in my county they do an evaluation of the students records and any proof you have (like homework samples) and then they determine where to place the child--they can also test into a level. Basically they treat the student as if they had transferred from another school. I could potentially put my children in fairly seamlessly. But that is this district, that has a good relationship with the homeschool community -
My neighborhood is mostly filled with older, retired couples and my children are friends with a lot of them, especially the couple directly next door. They ALWAYS have candy for my children--always, I often complain about how I sent someone over to lend/borrow something and they come home with candy/cookies-- she is a real sugar-pusher. For ToT, she gave them chips-- said they get enough candy from her the rest of the year. I bet if they go over there today, they will come back with some form of candy.

How many a Trick or Treaters will you get?
Lara in Colo replied to PinkTulip's topic in The Chat Board
Not many children here-- but the few houses that give out candy give out a lot of it-- so my children have cleaned up for years and we always stay faithful to our neighborhood (for fear that if we don't show up, everyone will stop handing out candy!!) but this year three new families with children moved in, so I am hoping a get at least three doorbell dings!! -
mine is a leather sectional that has the cushions attached

you can get them attached with a clip, so that they stay on, but can still come off

Hive - how do I clean melted on plastic out of dryer?
Lara in Colo replied to Woodhaven's topic in The Chat Board
xylene?-- but it is flammable-- so clean it well afterwards with soap and water and let air dry -
Can this meat be salvaged? (Not food safety related)
Lara in Colo replied to marbel's topic in The Chat Board
I would also suggest making it into a soup--- I actually use london broil cuts for soup meat-- I just cook it for a few hours. I make a great beef vegetable soup with just about all the veggies in the supermarket. (squash, zucc, red cabbage, toms, onion, pots, mushrooms,) anything else I see. It is a family favorite. and yes, the meat is tender -
Actually it IS fair--- what isn't fair is you having to go out of your way and do twice the work (more than your FAIR SHARE) by getting the item she didn't inform you to get. What is that saying??? Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine

Easy casserole or food dish to take/share
Lara in Colo replied to BlsdMama's topic in The Chat Board
Chicken Enchilada casserole is my go-to for potlucks -
not very healthy-- but yummy cut in half, take out the seeds, rub in (real) butter (about 1/4 stick per side) add some salt and about 1/8 Cup of brown sugar per side--- wrap in foil and bake until done--mmmmmm

I do not say this lightly, but this really sounds like a job for the Homeschool legal defense people-- this could be more than just about your child--- this could be a trend aimed at all homeschoolers in your area. I would think that they would love to tackle something like this-- something **inflamatory** that they can really get all blustered about. At the very least contact the medical board.

I could have written this--- I also have a larger Ameribag (maroon color ) and a smaller LL Bean one--my daughter also has a smaller one--- we love ours but alas for the OP we also bought ours at our local thrift store. I took the larger one to the hospital when DD has surgery-- it held wallet, keys ans "stuff, along with a tall container for my water, two books and DD's jacket. This purse rocks!!

I would complain, make a stink, let the local homeschool programs aware of this doctor and possibly, notify (even though I really hate them and am NOT a member) the HSLDA

Usborne books - am I missing something?
Lara in Colo replied to Southern Ivy's topic in The Chat Board
I buy them used and there are some I really like, but most of them are just light on information and sort of a "starting point" for most research. Interestingly, the book I like the most and recommend to others---is out of print and can only be purchased used. I probably have 20 books and I could easily toss all but 5. And I would never buy new-- they are way out of my budget.
