  1. How about a little coarse salt in the mouth? That cured spitting on siblings here in just one day. It is really gross and not nearly as bad as a hot sauce (my friend did this). Of course, I usually recommend a spanking when talking doesn't get the job done.
  2. I agree with you. I believe that IVF should be unlawful. But what to do about all of the forzen embryos? I think they should be given a proper and dignified burial. Perhaps a monument to respecting life and medical morality would be a nice way to honor them, instead of just disposing them or incinerating them.
  3. When I see people make mistakes, I try to forget about them. They are easy to make with children tugging at you and other distractions.
  4. Another thumbs down for the Aquarium. It is not worth the money. The Science museum is one of the best that I have been to though.
  5. My favorite place in MA is Hammond Castle. In NH, I love the lakes region. If I were going to be in Maine, I would definately do Acadia.
  6. All the structures that most of us live in are palaces compared to homes in third world countries. It doesn't mean that all of us are a bunch of hypocrites who do not care about others. I don't think it is very opened minded or tolerant to pick on the priorities of others. If missionaries or poor villagers choose to build a magnificent place to worship God while they live in shanty, it is a testament to their faith. This is something beautiful and inspiring, why make it into anything else?
  7. I always do that with the meeting book. We also have a non-standard school year.
  8. Homemade caramel. I believe there is a good one on Ghiradelli's website. It has pecans in it but I have made it without them.
  9. Just out phone number and leave us a message. I'm to paranoid to put anything personal on there, but it often causes peope to think they have dialed the wrong number.
  10. Eggs, actually I do a lot of egg bakes. Buy good eggs too, they make a difference. :) I have a ton of egg recipes on my cooking blog if you need pictures and measurements www.catholiccook.blogspot.com HTH
  11. Nope not a hint of anti-Catholicism there. Its our duty, and we're not going to give up. Read Quas Primas.
  12. I make a big pot of stock an set aside a good portion for the baby, from that I make Baby Soup, which is broth with a 1 cube of bullion at first, next with tiny pasta stars in it, then some carrots chopped small and then later meat in teeny tiny pieces. I freeze it in the appropriate portions for each stage. I also do cheerios (cut in half at first), banana pieces and yogurt. And if I am nursing they get milk in between. Usually when they are weaned they are able to take regular milk and regular food.
  13. We all go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time. Our day just has a normal order that we start once we wake up with no set time to get up or go to bed. If there is a need to get up by a certain time I use an alarm clock, but otherwise we just go with the flow.
  14. I've been making egg bakes lately. You just kind of put whatever you have in a greased glass pan and bake it with however many eggs your family eats. Mine usually include cheese, onion, mushroom, and peppers. Sometimes I use spinach and feta. An square pan takes about 30 minutes to bake and a rectangular pan takes about 50 minutes. I also have made cinnamon rolls the night before and left them in the fridge the overnight, then in the morning you can leave them out for about 1 hour or so and then bake them. They are kind of a treat though.
  15. I'm ordering mine from Seton for the first time this year. I hear they are good to deal with.
  16. Mine are in the sig, for different purposes, one for cooking and one for hsing. I also just started a Mommy Blog.
  17. A little late in the game, but I'm there http://www.rchomeschool.blogspot.com
  18. I am just trying to get a spectrum of what most 5 year olds are doing in their homeschool. Not for competitive purposes. Mine is a little over 5.5. I'd also like to know what they struggle with and common mistakes that they make.
  19. Tell them, this year, you are doing it European style and opening the gifts on Epiphany (Jan 6) That buys you more time :)
  20. And you would know because you distinctly remember that you created dinosaurs before humans, right?
  21. Spinach dip Shrimp cocktail, garnished with lemons Stuffed Mushrooms (my personal favorite) Spinach Pie (Spanakopita) Meatballs Crab popovers If you want a recipe, I'd be happy to share.
  22. We celebrate St. Nicholas day, with a children's party, The Immaculate Conception with a special dinner and no work--it is treated like a Sunday. We celebrate St. Lucy's day too with a special baked item. DS has a name day this month and DD's baptismal day is this month as well. In general we celebrate Advent and then Christmas until Candlemas (Feb. 2nd). We put special emphasis on the 12 Days of Christmas and we usually go to (or help organize) a huge Epiphany party.
  23. I bought my son's coat and pants at Burlington coat factory. Someone gave me all of his various ties, and also a few shirts. But overall, I thought that the suit was really reasonably priced and good quality.
  24. No, I don't support unions in general. My husband is in one, I can't stand their political agenda and the constantly try to pressure us to vote their way. His union is weak, but they do keep the workers in his line of work from having benefits taken away, which are really important with the measly pay he recieves for human service work. They make it nearly impossible to get rid of employees who are deadweights that steal and break all other sorts of rules. I think unions today mostly benefit people who want more than they deserve for what they do.
