  1. When my Dh told me they might be discontinued I replied: "Why because they have been linked to increased teen pregnancy, prostitution, and the spread of STD's?" Because that is all I can think of then I see those things.
  2. My mom is coming to stay for 2 weeks and will be here late on Dec. 20th. So I am thinking we will work up until then. I have to have very clean house to prevent her from nagging me too much, so if I have to spend a few days next week getting ready instead of doing school it will be worth it. Maybe while she is here we will keep up with the math facts and do a little bit of reading. But we're also going to be going to tons of parties From Christmas to Epiphany.
  3. I'm homeschooling a 5 yo, and I just had a baby. We've got one in the middle too. I've just made adjustments where necessary, it is very easy. I nurse the baby, or put him in the swing. If we are working at the kitchen table, I have a hair chair seat that fits infants and he loves to sit in it and watch. Your baby will be a fast learner with all of the "second hand school" he will get just from being around the older child. Congrats on your pregnancy!
  4. cathmom, You are so blessed. When the world hates you, you know you must be doing something right! I am a bit jealous, though I only have three, I immensly enjoy rude comments about my family size. When people say things like that it only strengthens my resolve to "pop out" a few more.
  5. You can let the whole thing rise, knead it, and then put it in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap. Then shape the dough tomorrow and let it come to room temp or warmer before baking. I like to let my dough rise on top of the dryer while it runs.
  6. Stick a peeled onion in there, cut in quarters. Even if you don't like onion, do it for the flavor. Toss out the onion when its done.
  7. Mine are on my blog, we went to the Muesum of Science in Boston.
  8. I wanted a shawl, some Wii games and a few cookbooks. I also asked for saffron, because that is a big luxury. DH and I gave eachother a list and we both picked a few things for eachother from the list.
  9. As a universal rule, most foods taste better with any kind of cheese in the middle of them. I've stuffed chicken with just about every kind of cheese, its a favorite around here. I really like gouda.
  10. I've never even heard of this show, I had to ask my husband what it was. (He knows the shows because there is a television at his workplace).
  11. In my state, there is something called "shared living" where you can take on an adult with mental retardation. You can make up to 35,000 a year, tax free because it is considered a stipend. The person goes to a day program during the day and you get money for "vacation" too, so you can take time off. Adult foster care is the same thing, but it pays less. They don't place anyone with children that could be dangerous either. If you need have any questions about it, feel free to PM me. :)
  12. I would be annoyed. But not everyone understands health and nutrition, with these things some people can't get over that they should not be fed to kids and some just don't believe there are side effects. I cannot get my mother to stop buying those horrible fruit snack for my kids, no matter how many times I tell her.
  13. I opened up Saxon Phonics, someone gave it to me for free, and then I closed it right back up. There were tapes, cards, workbooks, a huge teacher book like the math program etc. Way too much stuff for me. I felt like the lessons wanted us to do like 50 things each time.
  14. You can roast beef or pork, like you normally would with the veggies and make mashed potatoes. You can turn the leftovers into potato soup and the meat into tacos, bbq'd sandwiches. You could even just served pulled pork or beef, with bbq sauce with a side of veggies, fries (or mac and cheese) and corn bread-- this is common fare in restaurants that specialize in barbeque.
  15. That is one opinion. But I support a parent's right to discipline how they see fit. From harsh to hippie styles, it's really not up to me. I just think the "Nellie Olsens" of this world need a good swat on the rear but I could care less if they get what they deserve. Just don't ask me to baby sit! Parents tend to overlook the faults of their own children because it reflects on them, even to the point of defending their children's bad behavior.
  16. I've observed that the children who needed the spankings the most, were the ones that were never spanked. I thank both of my parents for spanking me, I needed it and deserved it, every time. And when I got older and overstepped my boundaries, I am glad that my mother gave me a slap across the face to put me back in my place. Actually, she should have spanked us more, we never respected her when she didn't.
  17. You cook it with. If you don't care for too much heat, remember to seed your jalapenos. I do mine in the oven on 300, for about 5-6 hours. Covered!
  18. You would be able to tell we are Catholic. And if you know your saints, you'd be able to tell what "flavor" Catholic we are.
  19. We're going to rent until we get more of our debt paid down. There's no way we could afford at the current prices, but they are cheaper in NH! I'm so glad to know that I would not have to file until next year. I could definately do the CAT test! I was feeling a little overwhelmed about it, but this clears up one roadblock.
  20. We are kind of looking into whatever area we cane get the right sized house. I'm thinking probably one of the closer border towns off of 93, DH is going to keep his job in MA.
  21. Pros, cons? Other thoughts. We're considering re-locating to S. NH. The homeschooling scene and issues in the state are a factor influecing our decision.
  22. The Story of a Soul- St. Therese of Liseuix Introduction to the Devout Life- St. Francis de Sales Divine Intimacy Imitation of Christ -Kempis Anything by St. Louis de Monfort or St. Alphonsus Ligouri
