  1. Most of mine haven't been a problem, either. But every once in a while, you run across a wild one. Our tree protection measures have also been very effective against toddlers :001_smile: We have a 6 month old kitten right now that was returned from a litter we hand-raised. He IS a wild one, and I'm glad we've already got a plan.
  2. Some ideas: 1. Buy a smaller tree and put it up on a high, sturdy table. We've done this for the past few years with a 5 ft. tree and a round club table. Works great, if your ceilings are high enough to accommodate it. 2. One year we put our tree on our covered patio. We could still see it well from inside.
  3. I have some cookware from this brand: http://www.amazon.com/Cooks-Standard-Multi-Ply-Stainless-Steel-10-Piece/dp/B00421AYJK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1352754730&sr=8-1&keywords=cook%27s+standard+set This is over your stated budget if you buy from Amazon, but I saw a new set of it recently on eBay that sold for well under $100. The reviews are good, and the price is as well. Ebay is a pretty good place to get some deals on cookware. ETA: You might also want to check out TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They often have good brands of cookware available at a discount (I've seen All-Clad semi-regularly, for example. Still pretty expensive, though). It wouldn't necessarily be a matched set, but you could pick out the most useful pieces and get good quality.
  4. Leif is a cool name. How about Luna for a girl?
  5. Hmmm, here are my best ideas.... BOYS Elias Julian Luca Lucien Jules Raphael Nico Noel GIRLS Tessa Phoebe Fiona Justine Lydia Cecily Lise Keira Isla Ione Angelica Evangeline Anya Maya Gemma Romy Juliet Katia Lucia Mena
  6. If you are open to Xylitol, you might look into Xyliwhite. No fluoride, pretty mild taste. My 5 year old likes it better than the other options we've tried. She likes mint, but not so strong that it is "hot", and this one gets the thumbs up from her.
  7. Here's another option: http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/2012/romney-vs-obama-electoral-map?hw
  8. Hmmm.... I would make sunomono and this salad: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Cucumber-Tomato-and-Feta-Salad-365671 and place slices in water for drinking, in place of a lemon slice and maybe this: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Sweet-Tart-and-Spicy-Shrimp-and-Cucumber-Salad-242474
  9. These were the ones that worked the best for us: http://www.amazon.com/Individual-Software-Inc-2224562-Typing/dp/B000TME1JU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351637618&sr=8-1&keywords=quick+and+easy+typing And (if you're okay with Spongebob): http://www.amazon.com/Nickelodeon-10583-SpongeBob-Squarepants-Typing/dp/B000GKPDWY/ref=sr_1_1?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1351637670&sr=1-1&keywords=spongebob+typing Oh, I almost forgot.....Typingweb.com is good, too.
  10. Of the ones you have listed, I like Zoey best. Stella would get my second choice vote. Two of our pets have these names :) Here are some other names that I think go with your other names and criteria: Ivy Phoebe Macy Violet Evangeline (Evie) Chloe Zara Mia Lila Kirsten Naomi Avis Natalie Josephine (Josie) Daphne Paige Keira Kari Brynn Cecily Vivienne Rosalie
  11. A plague doctor, like this: http://alchemipedia.blogspot.com/2009/09/black-death-bubonic-plague.html
  12. I like Lily Hope the best, but even more I like the variation Lia instead of Lily. You might look and see if any other variations appeal to you.
  13. I don't think you need to know how to french braid....a regular braid should work fine if you just want to keep the hair out of their eyes. With my 5 year old I just take a secion of hair that would fall in her eyes and braid it, so that it lies down against her temple. It's her go-to style and it looks cute and works very well. Usually we part her hair on the side and just put the braid on the bigger side, but 2 braids works as well.
  14. I would tell the neighbors this and ask that they be extra vigilant about not letting their dog get loose. If they fail to do so, then I would contact animal control. A loose dog doesn't bother me much, but a loose aggressive one sure does.
  15. You may want to ask your vet about a course of oral medications (antibiotics and steroids short term) to decrease the inflammation, so you can handle the ear without so much pain. Then add in the topical medications. Of course, giving oral medications to a small dog who is willing to bite can be a challenge, too. If you try it, I recommend Cheese Whiz or liverwurst to get the pills down. Good luck!
  16. The 2 things that help me the most are: 1. Lidocaine topically (VERY effective! I keep these on hand http://www.amazon.com/Water-Jel-Burn-Pain-Relief/dp/B0006GE5N6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350622695&sr=8-1&keywords=burn+gel, but you could find something similar and I'm sure it would help) 2. Leave the burn in very cold salt water, for hours if necessary. Good luck. I hate burns:(
  17. When we first got our rats, the kids would sit in our largest bathtub and let the rats play in there with them. The rats couldn't climb out of the tub, and it let the kids get used to handling them.
  18. I agree that he really needs a diagnosis. It sounds like he is losing muscle mass (given the prominent spine). Kidney disease and diabetes mellitus are both very common in cats, and of course there are many other things that could be going on. :grouphug: Here's hoping for a good outcome for you and your kitty.
  19. I bought some child size tops and bloomers and dyed them with materials from their site. They turned out well, and I was just thinking about getting some more. We had a blue dye (can't recall the exact shade) that was lovely. The dye held up pretty well, but there was some fading over time. The clothes were nice....comfortable and soft....but they did seem to stain easily (I had the same problem with Hanna Anderson clothes, so I don't think it reflects poor quality in any way).
  20. I just ordered some of this tea: http://www.amazon.com/Taylors-Harrogate-Pure-Assam-50-Count/dp/B000F3XZFO/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1350070270&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=assam+tea. The reviews describe it as full-flavored but not bitter, so I thought is would work well with cream and sugar. Can't give a full report on it yet, though. The Harney Paris blend is also quite yummy with cream and sugar (it has a vanilla/fruit flavor).
  21. I hesitate to post, because I don't have any first-hand knowledge.....but recently I spoke to someone who does neurofeedback, and he said that he uses it regularly with good success for seizures. It might be another avenue worth exploring. Sorry, I don't have any input on the VNS.
  22. Blood work and IV fluids would generally be considered optional in a young, healthy animal. Older or ill animals would come with a different recommendation. I do recommend testing at least one of them for leukemia/ FIV and intestinal parasites however.
