  1. I took too much Dimetap back in the day when it had whatever is now kept behind the counter. I lost my balance at the top of the stairs and fell down them with a laundry basket full of dirty clothes. Ugh.
  2. There's no security at our mosque. We just assume the FBI is there. ;)
  3.   If you handle one kid as Tier 1 and and the other runs behind the car smoking Marlboros and carrying a beer, they can chat through the missing back window! Genius!
  4. 10, because my car only seats 3 in the back and a few times we've transported 4 kids. DS was the biggest kid and had to sit in front, which is legal here if the back seats are filled with smaller children. However it was a short trip (2 miles) and the speed limit for the entire trip was 25 mph. I would refuse for the freeway and I wouldn't let him ride in front had there been a slot open in the back seat.
  5. Near Union Square I would recommend Cockscomb, Cafe Claude, Liholiho Yacht Club. For more traditional SF seafood, you could trek to Swan's Oyster Depot (prepare to wait in line and eat at a counter) or Tadich Grill. The seafood at Tadich can be hit or miss but the sand dabs are great and are local to SF bay. The cioppino is an SF classic as well. Another SF classic (but you'll have to travel a bit) is Zuni Cafe. Lastly, if you want a bit of an adventure I would try State Bird Provisions. People line up early (4:30ish) but it's a bit of a camaraderie in line. It's a cart-based dim sum style dining, but with American dishes. The CA state bird is quail and that's their signature dish. Keep in mind SF is a real food city. There are more than 4,000 restaurants and probably half of those are within a mile of Union Square. Have fun!
  6. Hmm. This is sitting on our shelves because DH loves it and refuses to donate it. I'll try to read it in the next few months even though I'm not a fan of dystopian novels.
  7. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  8. Do you have certain styles of food and price points you're looking for? Besides sushi, I mean? And are you planning to walk, take transit, cab it, drive?
  9. Beware the hosta stealing neighbors!
  10. Stephen King or Neil Gaiman? King. He's hit or miss but I haven't read Gaiman. Italo Calvino or Haruki Murakami? Haven't read Calvino so I'm going with Murakami. Beer or Wine? I don't drink so I don't know. ghostbusters or three musketeers? Ghostbusters, absolutely. I wish my homeschooling car was the Ghostbusters ambulance. Plus I love Sigourney Weaver. And Dan Akroyd. And Bill Murray. Shallow Hal or The Elf? Don't know who these are? Gwyneth Paltrow or Jennifer Lawrence? Jennifer Lawrence by a long shot. Best Sidekick in a Novel or Movie? Samwise Gamgee.
  11. I haven't either. I think his most well-known book is American Gods but I recently purchased The Ocean At the End of the Lane to read next month. Want to join me? We could read Inferno together too. I'm a slow reader, so for me it would be like going hiking with my super-fit friend.
  12. "He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow."
  13. There's the Monterey Bay jellyfish web cam. It doesn't run at all hours. ETA: Poke around the site in general for other sea stuff.
  14. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Wonderful update. I will pray as your son moves forward to the next step.
  15. Yes, I like it. There's something nice about thinking of it as a fun way to remember place values and remainders from each step. It's a clever set up.
  16. I have a can opener, but am still missing a vegetable peeler. We got a lot of work done on setting up the new homeschool room this weekend. It's so much better than before, when our only room was a bookcase and the dining table. We can actually leave work and projects out while we eat!
  17. :grouphug: Don't lift a finger. They should clean up.
  18. We're taking today off. We've had a weird schedule lately with moving so I don't want to take a full spring break. But we have a bunch of fun stuff piled up: great books, videos, some crafty stuff, magazines, etc so we decided we would just catch up on those today. Maybe tomorrow too.
  19. I think you might be thinking of Star Talk Radio.
  20. I was browsing at the library today and managed to not get anything for myself. My TBR pile is already too big! DH is a big fan of the Patrick O'Brian novels but not a fan of historical fiction in general. Still I came across a section of books by Bernard Cornwell and they looked really good. Some are in series and the library didn't have the first books of the series on the shelf so I checked out The Fort, which seemed standalone. Anyone familiar with these? In skimming them they looked pretty good.
  21. This is a post where she started gathering her posts into one place. The links under individualized plans are where she's helped others. There are more but that's all she's linked to from this list so far.
