  1. :iagree: And will add one question. Just what do they hope to accomplish by repeatedly coming to you with their genuine concerns? Imo, it's a backhanded insult to you and your family. While I would want to take their questions with as much grace as I could muster on the spot, it would get old real fast. You are sweet to want to discuss and keep everyone happy.:001_smile: I totally understand where you're coming from, but it isn't likely to happen. Joanne's advice to change the subject is a good one, and I need to take it more often myself. My next door neighbor's dd didn't read until she well over the age of ten. I didn't go out soliciting opinions from other women who sent their child(ren) to her elementary school. To be honest, it was a myob moment and if I felt real concern...I'd have spoken to her mom about it. kwim? Imo, It's best to suggest concerned relatives, friends, neighbors speak with the parents of their concern. If they really have an issue they will do something and if they just want to chat...We can move on to another subject. And for those purposing more accountability... No Child Left Behind hasn't worked for every child either.
  2. http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=long-underwear&categoryId=503057&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&nav=sub&qs=3005063&trkid=21196S72068250 I wear these...and they are so light weight, comfy and not sweaty. That's a great fit for me since I'm sensitive to a lot of things. Bulk under my regular jeans and regular clothes along with the sweaty indoor factor led me to bite the bullet and order one pair of these a few years back. Now I order at least one new piece every year and I was them right in the washer and dry them on a line or occasionally in the dryer. They do wash and dry very well, but I'm hoping to make them last and last. My top winter layer is always fleece and our favorite jackets are Columbia. I even wear a hat, gloves and scarf here. Blech... :scared: Winter here is so beautiful until the middle of January and then it just goes on and on and on. My family kids me about my next layer being one of those snugly blankets.:001_huh::grouphug:
  3. For me, it works...it go up through high school. The teacher stress for teaching high school math is not something I worry about and I'm so thankful for that. Oh, and I like the DIVE CD or Saxon Teacher after 8/7. :001_smile:
  4. :iagree: The program is so easy to use, but that IM is a stumbling block for many would be users. Imo...The IM should be rewritten:D.
  5. We have around 2400 sqft with a basement and two car garage that don't measure into the square footage. Our home is a two story, and I'd definitely downsize if we moved. Now that the "little kid toys" are gone this place feels bigger than we need.
  6. Drivers Ed and martial arts are off the table until spring because there simply isn't enough time.
  7. :iagree: I've been doing this so many years now, my knowledge of what will be a hit or miss are pretty good. Planning, choosing, purchasing and insuring the lessons are done are my responsibility though. ;) My kids are big and are expected to make it work, but when they were little...daily tears could sway me to make a change.
  8. Yes, but the method calls for cutting off the flap so there is nothing left if you do. It felt strange, but worked and the pants have held up for a few years through lots of washings. I've also left the flap and been able to lengthen the pants later as my kid grew.
  9. The link was a blessing to me a few years ago. My dd needed all new jeans and they were all super long. The first one felt awkward and wrapping my mind around the hemming short cut took a leap of faith. But...all the pants turned out looking nice (Even on my junky sewing machine that wouldn't go through lots of layers.) and didn't take a lot of time or sewing skills. ;) Do one pair and you might find yourself hooked on the method.
  10. Two right choices depending on your machine. :001_smile: I've used the way Kim linked below and it's quick and easy. If you have a really good machine that can hem multiple layers of jean fabric and you are pretty relaxed with the whole hemming thing; purchase the right color thread and thickness and go the old fashioned route. Oh and doing a dark hem that matches the fabric of the jeans vs. the stitching can lengthen the look of the leg and be slimming:).
  11. Thank you both. Audrey...What a beautiful baby. Congratulations.
  12. "No pop-quizzes!" or "Hey...If you want to home school, get your own kid.":001_smile:
  13. Our schedule varies by subject. Basically I follow the 50 minute hour block for planning as well as my state and reporting requirements to our accredited diploma program. It boils down to a specific number of hours or completing an approved text for each credit. If my student were working on an AP course, I'd give AP credit on the transcript, but any course which is completed is credited no matter the time it takes. Last year my dd was able to finish up history a few months early by working ahead. She got the credit for completing the text and assigned course work, then enjoyed a little more free time. My personal policy is to reward good work with a break rather than falling into the trap of rewarding good work with more work. I'll totally admit to just the opposite years ago and burning her out.:tongue_smilie: ymmv
  14. Sally's Beauty Supply is the place to go if you have one. Talk with a sales person and they should be able to suggest what will work for your hair. I know a number of women who use what the Sally's girl recommended here and are very happy. A couple of them went in for emergency fixes to their stylists goofs and became devoted customers. I'm not coloring mine yet, but when I do that's where I'll go for a consult.
  15. I think complaining is often used to connect with people and open up a conversation around here. It's kind of like the weather is so...fill in the blank. I for one am not ready to give up summer just yet. Fall is wonderful but then comes winter and I just don't want to go there. I'm a February...when is this going to end so we can get outside without the threat of hypothermia and frostbite kind of mom? Aka transplant who hasn't quite embraced the winter wonderland we now call home. Tammy, Chanting quietly to myself..."It is still warm outside...It is still warm outside."
  16. We do our popcorn in the microwave. Brown paper bag fold once or twice 1/3 cup popcorn Press popcorn button and wa-la. Top any way you like it.
  17. I used it daily with ease by just introducing one new card a day and then quickly running through the stack. It only took a few minutes a day and having pre-made cards was a no-brainer for me.
