  1. I'd do what I could to the kitchen for $10,000. Then either the car or the heloc. Depending upon the potential interest/future costs.
  2. Dd did this. I finally told her she couldn't practice piano (her love) until math was 100% correct. Her careless mistakes practically dried up overnight. I did have to put my foot down and tell her to use *a lot* of paper to do math. That I needed to see the steps.
  3. I think all the books were good, but The Giver is such an exceptional book it makes the rest look bad by comparison.
  4. Besides Ravensburger? DS3 loves the ones I've bought him, but I'm looking to expand the selection. I still need 100 pieces or less. Just wondering if anyone can recommend some good ones or to just stick with Ravensburger. I'm tired of buying puzzles and having them be so thin they won't stay together.
  5. This. The one time I went it was in a hotel. Massive disappointment. We went to B&N afterwards to help soothe the disappointment.
  6. We don't do stake baptisms because we're too spread out, but we don't do ward ones either. It's a small enough ward that it typically doesn't matter. We do start and close in the chapel though. But that's a recent (maybe this bishop so a year?) change. We are in a stage 1 building though so it's pretty much go from the front of the chapel to the back. My baptism was a ward one though. Again, too far spread to meet at the stake center.
  7. Usually short. There's the baptism, a couple of 3-5 minute talks (it's aimed at 8 year olds after all), some singing and you're done. About 30 minutes? Gifts aren't necessary. We don't do it in my building, but typically, there's some refreshments afterwards. But if she's moving she might appreciate a picture of her and your family.
  8. It's a philosophy more than a hand holding curriculum, although I think the monthly "magazines" talk more about the day to day aspect. It's on sale at 50% at HSBC. I ended up enrolling DD in one of the online courses and it's really stretching her. So I'm happy with it so far. I was having problems figuring out how to implement it and DD needed an outside voice.
  9. So I logged on today and they want me to create a district admin account. Anyone know anything if this? I haven't been able to look into it in detail yet. But I don't remember selecting a district when I registered.
  10. Well. It depends. I've had conversations with people about topics that I thought they were being irrational, but they obviously didn't. I don't think I've ever said to calm down, but I know I've said to just wait and see and not worry until it happens. With perpetual worriers, I can get a little eye-rolling. Maybe person a needs to say they prefer the thought said in a different way. Or not vent to person b.
  11. I don't. I think I would just go back to ignoring them. Your family doesn't need such toxic people in your life.
  12. I always bought DD's stuff from Lands End. Good quality stuff that would last every day use for the summer as well.
  13. I can get on fine. I'm running Chrome on Windows 8. Have you tried a different browser?
  14. Mormon.org And I'm off to get a root canal. Which for me is about as much fun as the one time we tried to use Apologia so I have no problem not sending money to Apologia.
  15. When one of my boys fell off the bed and we thought his pupils were different sized we took him to the children's hospital ER. They told us they didn't worry unless the kid was throwing up. Probably not the only thing to base head trauma on, but it's making me feel better with all the knocks the baby is getting as he's becoming mobile.
  16. The ability to bump/reschedule easily. Intuitive future planning-don't make me put in every chapter. I want to say I have 40 chapters so make 40 lessons. Also I need different levels. 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 etc.
  17. Definitely the way to go. It was super easy and comes with everything. FYI, the workbooks are two levels. B is the easier, adapted version. I use the included powerpoint presentations to lecture to DD and then she does the A worksheets and tests. Labs are being done this summer so I haven't looked over them much. Well worth the $75 from the publisher to get everything.
  18. We live about 2 hours away. My IL live there so we visit. I've not looked, but it's big enough there should be some coops. I knew a family that hs, but they've gone back to ps now. And it is hot. Going outside in the summertime is like sticking your head in the oven. It'll fry your eyeballs.
  19. I used Destinos in college. It worked well enough I could follow native speakers. We're currently using Homeschool Spanish Academy. DD fights with me on languages so I outsourced it. We were using Galore Park and I liked it and thought it looked well. She just didn't want to work on it.
  20. It runs rampant in my family. I have it, a couple of my brothers have it, and my dad had it. And my dad managed to get a masters degree, so my brother using it as an excuse to not do school work never held any water for me. Yes, it makes things more difficult, but it's still possible to get something done. My DB once told DH he couldn't clean his room because he had ADD.
  21. I agree with the pp. The garage is too far from the kitchen for me. I think I might flip the house layout a bit so that the master bedroom is closer to the screened porch.
  22. Yup saw this. I'm so glad they're checking interest. Hopefully enough people are interested.
  23. Threads like this is why I've ultimately decided to go with other programs. I was going to use one of their science programs last year, but was ultimately scared away by their bad CS. I can't support a company that runs things so poorly and makes excuses for their behavior. It's not worth my money, time, or effort. I'm pretty sure I could have a system on my blog set up by tonight that would enable you to buy an ebook from me and download it immediately.
