  1. No way. We passed on a super cute house because one was listed on the same street.
  2. I guess it would depend on the culture of theatre in your particular area. Around here, theatre is generally a collaborative effort and most people are willing to mentor those who are truly interested in their craft. It's common for people in our area to gain experience in a particular niche of theatre by volunteering as an assistant for someone especially skilled in a particular area of interest. The choreographer you know might welcome an assistant as long as your learning from her doesn't cost her more time. You never know until you ask. One can learn a lot by just sitting in/observing/listening in (i.e. not actively participating - leave that to the experts for now) on planning/decision making sessions.
  3. Ellen McHenry's The Elements has been the biggest hit. Beast Academy is currently in second place.
  4. I just purged my wardrobe after years of needing to do so. I only kept what I wear, and it feels great to have a streamlined closet. :001_smile:
  5. Not toys, not toys, not toys, not toys . . . Seriously, if I keep chanting this, maybe I'll stick to it.
  6. When it stays consistently cool (or warm). I always keep a few transition pieces out so we can get through a few isolated days of changing weather. However, once we're more often than not reaching for the transition pieces, it's time to switch.
  7. :001_huh: Somehow this makes the tiny annoyances in my marriage easier to ignore now.
  8. We've been married almost 17 years, and he continues to leave crumbs and wadded up dishtowel on the counter plus a sink full of ick. Everyone knows you wipe the crumbs into the sink with the towel, rinse out the sink, dry the sink with the towel until it shines, then toss the towel in the laundry and hang up a new towel on its hook. Right?! I suppose I should be thankful he's at least getting his own food. His dad makes his mom get up and do it for him. As for me, I am 100% guilty of overstuffing the trash can - and not emptying the coffee grounds. :001_smile: BUT, he is seemingly incapable of replacing a toilet paper roll once the other is empty. That's worse than either of my offenses, yes?
  9. Toaster oven, hot plate, microwave, crockpot - - these saved me when we were doing kitchen renovations. We didn't have a working stove for about two months.
  10. We love it. It opens the door to wonderful conversations in our house.
  11. Whew! We currently have 5 different brands of peanut butter in our pantry, but none of them are on this list! Thanks for the update, RC!
  12. Our pool has a wristband requirement. If you can pass a lap test, you earn a wristband. That means you can be in the pool on your own. You only have to take the test once. Your name is then on a list, and you get your band when you check in to the pool each time. If you don't earn the band, your parent must stay in arm's reach of you at all times. The wristband also determines whether or not you can use the slides.
  13. :iagree: ETA: for help with spelling rules, I haven't found anything that beats Uncovering the Logic of English.
  14. Thanks for posting that. I needed to hear it. I'm a lens-avoider, too. Mostly because I still haven't embraced my grown up body (and, yes, my dd is way cuter than I am!) and definitely because it seems everything ends up on FB these days. However, I'm going to make a pact w/myself to at least begin showing up in pics taken with my own camera (so I can make sure they stay in the family and not on FB). My dd does deserve a record of who I am at any given time; the internet does not.
  15. I'll miss you. So many of your posts speak right to my heart. Best wishes as you focus on other priorities. Looking forward to your return! :grouphug:
  16. My dd did the same thing at about the same age. Now she will eat a little meat sometimes, but it's still not something she loves. As far as I'm concerned, she doesn't have to ever eat meat if she doesn't want to. ETA: I offer a healthy, whole foods, mostly plant based diet to my family, anyway, and meat is not the focal point. I include meat once or twice a week to keep dh happy.
  17. We use MM, Fred, Beast Academy, Khan, math picture books, the Number Devil, Number Stories of Long Ago, Mathemagic, and Mathematicians are People, Too I and II. We play games that use math skills, and we use some of the rhymes and hands-on math projects found in Waldorf curricula. Mostly, math is anything but boring here because dd draws inspiration from learning about the great mathematicians throughout history. She sees mathematical connections in the world around her. Math is a living thing to her - not an isolated subject. I paid a lot of attention to the Living Math site when I first started homeschooling, and the info I picked up from there helped shape what we do.
  18. That's exactly what first crossed my mind. If she's that crazy, you should be prepared for anything. :grouphug: and so sorry! Be careful.
  19. Yes, I pronounce the t in each of those. Now I'll have to listen to see if others do. :tongue_smilie:
